DANG, Donna! MAKE sure Brian is there to assist Nick but tell NICK to tell his mom EXACTLY what he told you! I would say have a third party - not related to you at all present when you make the phone call and let J KNOW that you have a friend present, that way she KNOWS very well that you have a witness to your request to bring more medication. Well Ethan now has poison ivy too. Just a few spots but when he had it the last time he had a nasty reaction so I immediately called the dr. and got a scrip called in for him. I LOVE our dr's! They rarely even question me anymore about anything regarding my kids unless it's something they've (the kids) have never had before. Donna - as for the Chantix. I'll let you know how Brian does with it, but I was told today by Ty's girlfriend's mom ( I know her name but for some reason it escapes me tonight) that sometimes it has the side effect of depression! Something we'll have to keep an eye on! Blessings, Garsy

Brian's HOME!!!!! I was discharged today at about 1PM. I am so relieved. Dr's put him BACK on insulin (on a sliding scale) and he is supposed to talk to a financial counselor tomorrow at the hospital and have a diabetes education session too. That's going to be a problem. I don't see why they can't do all three classes in one day - instead of over a three day period. We live so far out of town that going in every day for three days for a one hour class is just not practical. Anyway the insulin over oral meds is actually a good thing. Brian had weight loss surgery 6 years ago and has since had a hard time with oral meds. Going back to insulin will help him control the diabetes AND leave room in his stomach for the one pill he still has to take and his food, which they recommend he take with his meds. And I've forgotten to tell you all about Aryn's trip! She had a great time! Her getting to spend time with her cousin and grandparents is priceless and it brought back dear memories for me and Brian about all the great times we had with our cousins. Aryn LOVED the Butterfly Gardens they visited! I'm tired, despite a 2 hour nap this afternoon! I'm off to bed. Blessings, Garsy

Donna, is there any way that she is setting you up to NOT give the meds and turn you in again? I think it would backfire on her but I can't get the idea out of my mind. Kath - Dad is staying on his plan, but he is staying 'local'. To get to the doctor's offices, it is over 1 hours drive each way, and he is just cutting those out. He wants to work with the GP in town which is only 10 miles. I have said since day one that if he is doing what he wants and is aware of the risks, who are we to question it. For example, "this pill will help your heart, but may cause kidney damage. So, you will be heart-healthy but might be on dialysis or kidney healthy and run the risk of a heart attack." Doctors tend to encourge you to take the 'script and I think that is because they can medically help with any problems that come from it. Dad tends to go with letting the body do what it will. The problem with the endocrinologist in question was that she didn't realize Dad will change the habits and exercise. As far as the A1C thing - there was a language barrier. The test was for Mar-Apr-May. He didn't know he had a problem until right before Mother's day and he had been compliant from that point forward. He was asking if the results reflected the change (I think it was too little too late for THAT TESTING) She was acting like he thought that changing it for three whole weeks within that 3-month period was enough. Garsy - I hear you on the lifestyle changes. It is tough because they have to WANT to do it. And we need to be able to say no when we want to give in when it comes to meals. This is my biggest problem. I gotta work now.

Garsy, glad Brian is home, and that Aryn had a great trip! Glad the insurance thing worked out as well. Donna, I second the friend and phone idea. I sure hope J isn't setting you up, as that would really be a mean thing to do. Hope everyone is having a great day today. We did get a little rain this past weekend, but we're still pretty dry. It's a little cooler this morning, which is nice after all the heat.

She's not too bright. HA. Seriously...she takes him to the doctor, she gets the prescription, she gives us the meds...without that...it's her problem, not ours. We have called her and the number will be listed on Brian's cell phone bill, which would also show that we have only called her like three times in the past six months. If she doesn't bring the meds, I won't have any to give, but I'm not going to worry about it. Garsy, I'm so glad he's home! Hope they get things settled quickly for you all. I'm going to take the kids to the playground this morning. It's always more fun to go there than to play in your OWN playground, KWIM? Hopefully it'll start our week out on a good note... Noah's kind of moody and extra bossy after being camping with Grandma and Grandpa all weekend (was his birthday present from them).

Brian had weight loss surgery 6 years ago How much did he lose? I think about it sometimes but really there is no excuse for me to do it, I know I can lose on my own, I'm just not disciplined enough. quote:

It's hard sometimes to watch, I know when my FIL was going to a local dr we really wanted her to see a specialist, but by the time they decided it was time the cancer had taken over. It was so sad. quote:

Brian was pushing 400 lbs! He lost over 200 and is between 180 and 190 now. He talked to the financial counselor today and we have been BLESSED big time! His total bill with dr's and everything was roughly $7000!!!! His ICU bill was almost half of it and he was only in there 6 hours! Anyway, after talking to the financial counselor and explaining our situation, they found a grant program that will cover about 90% of that bill! Our bill is now just less then $700! Still a big bill but not nearly the hardship for us in the long run! I hope Noah's mood improves too! Blessings, Garsy

Awesome, Garsy! Is there a chance of him getting on the state low-income insurance too?

ORIGINAL: PrincessDonna Awesome, Garsy! Is there a chance of him getting on the state low-income insurance too? Unfortunately no. Apparently we make too much money in unemployment and with him going back to work next week it's kinda out. BUT we have been directed to other organizations that maybe able to help us with some of his meds, at least until we get on insurance again, which could be a couple of weeks even after he goes back. The insulin after we are back on insurance isn't going to be a big problem as it is a $4.00 med at our pharmacy, or $10 for a 3 month supply! His blood pressure med is also one of the cheap discount meds. The Chantix tho could be a problem. It's a spendy med. But with so many places pushing smoking cessation nowdays one would think that someone somewhere would want to help with that. So we are working on it. Kath - Brian said that if you wanted more info on the weight loss surgery stuff to just let him know. I could PM you his E-mail address if you want it. Blessings, Garsy

Does the phrase 'too much on unemployment' sound weird to you too??? I was bellyaching the other day. When I started working, I had to in order to pay off debt and keep from getting further behind. Then, we were doing ok. Caught up, paying down, and could buy the kids things they NEEDED but not everything they wanted. So, gas goes up, heating fuel goes up, electric is going up and the pay isn't. By the end of winter we will be living like we did on a single income and I will need to go to work everyday to do it. Grump, grump, grump. The electric / fuel is really worrying me. I figure I will need $500 - $800 a month since we lack insulation upstairs. And, we make way to much to get help. I'm listening to the girl in the next office talking on the phone. She has a work related problem and I may be able to help her but she isn't asking me. She is calling everyone else. I hate to have her know I have been listening, but I can't help it - she is loud. So, I have to walk in while she is on the phone talking about it. This delicate dance is complicated by the fact that she makes as many personal calls as work related so I don't know when to walk in without listening. Or, I could be WAY off base and not understand the question because I am only hearing some of one half of the conversations.

Mbee, I remember a very loud co-worker on the phone working with me. I don't want to hear those conversations, but how can I not when they're not even trying to speak softly? Sometimes I was able to ignore it, but other times... A time or two, when it was work related, I yelled the answer back to my co-worker. It usually got quiet for a short time after that. Garsy, I hope you find some help for the pricier med. That's great news about the other help. Hope everyone has a good day today.

No one can open the file they need from 'her' software (she is admin) so she was trying to get it to work. Thing was, I saved the file elsewhere, but she didn't know that because she neglected to assign the job to me. I didn't want to volunteer because I know the boss wants it moved so do we really want the employees looking there, when it may not be there long... And, I didn't want to say that I did it when she didn't tell me to and point out that she didn't tell me....

Kath - It took her 9 months to add my job title to the system after I was permanent. Before that, she would assign 'update' to the person who started it, and they were supposed to know to bring it to me. If they didn't, she did. It wasn't working so she added me. (mainly because I pouted that I wanted a place to record my notes on the project) In this case, she forgot to assign it to me since it is 'new' and she had been doing the other way for 3 years. Just went thru the cracks. If she needs real help she will ask for it - and I have passed her door several times.

Why do they make houses without insulation in the upstairs? Linz says her BF's house does not have insulation upstairs either. Our house has no insulation upstairs either. But it was built in the late 1800s, when there was no indoor plumbing and they probably only heated the main living space downstairs.

The upstairs was added on, and we don't use it. We have to start using it, but it leaks air like a sieve. On the bright side, no snow on the roof...

Donna I was just thinking about you and Nick this morning. My MIL is a teacher at a small, Christian school, and she said that 3 of the 4 boys in her class last year were held back early on due to emotional maturity issues. Nothing wrong with their intellect, they just needed a bit more time to grow up. I hope Nick feels a bit better once he starts school. He has wonderful support from you and your hubby, and that will make all the difference in the world.
