And you're right...Nick may not see it until he's grown. Brian didn't with his stepmom, but now says he considers her his real mom and his bio mom the uterus donor. I'd have to say I agree with his assessment.[>:]

Even if David had been your biological child, the things you had to do are not things any parent anticipates having to do for their child forever. So yes, it would have been more your job then, but...still...I admire every caretaker of handicapped children and adults. They ALL deserve appreciation above and beyond the norm.

Dear Donna and Kathy,

I understand how much work having special needs kids is, endless paperwork, dealing with teachers, even church can be work. My twins have special needs. So I do 2 IEP's every year, SSI, etc. Darling hubby doesn't but I think it is because I just always have done it so he just assumes I will. Thankfully mine don't require as much physical care as before, they are now independant physically. It is like having a full time job plus all the other regular mom stuff.

Just know that others, even our spouses, may not appreciate what you do in raising special needs kids, but our Lord does. I believe he is smiling and saying well done my daughters. I believe someday in heaven your sacrifices will be rewarded and you will be honored for the love shown to one not even of your flesh. In the mean time know that you are loved and I will be praying for you.


About the kiddo's growing up. I can sure relate to that one. Jessica, my oldest, just had her 13th birthday on Friday. She will be going into 8th grade in August. Seems like just yesterday I was laying in the huspital with her on my tummy.

We have 4 more days of school here and I still haven't heard about the twins summer school situation. I'm also worried about J's grades. She is suppose to find out today if she passed her classes. If not that will be a crisis here because she won't be allowed to stay at the magnet program, it's a performing arts school and she has been there since 1st. grade.

(((Donna))), I can't say I understand how you feel, but I think I would be frustrated in your situation, too. From your posts, I can tell that you love Nick and care about him. It's a shame you seem to be fighting the battle alone, but do hang in there - for his sake. I'm sure he'll appreciate it - if not now, then later.

I know that can be frustrating, I didn't find out about Mike's till about that time too. And I just found out that the teacher isn't spending time with him like he said he would, so I'll need to email. Mike has tried three times to get though this class and he hates it so much he ends up dropping it, and he needs it to graduate. His Special Ed teacher said he'd stay right by him to make sure he got it all done.

I think that you are both awesome step moms
I have had stepmom's and a stepdad and both where unqualified disasters so thank you to both of you for loving these children as they are yours. you may not know this on this side but you have majorly impacted their lives for the good.

Great job loving those kids Donna and Kath.

My BIL lived with and eventually married a woman who wanted nothing to do with his daughter from his first marriage. They had a child together themselves pretty early on in their relationship. It still upsets me to think about how he caved to her wishes in that situation. When his now wife finally decided that his daughter could be a part of their lives she was in middle school, so apparently she wasn't too willing to make up for lost time.

Kim, I hope you get some good news from the school about the grades.

Not much going on here this week. Swimming lessons start next week. I'm enjoying the quiet of just two kids in the house.

I can imagine it would. I'd like to have had a closer relationship with his daughter but her mom didn't like it. When she wanted me to teach her to sew, her mom said she knew how too, but she never taught her. When she said she wanted me to teach her how to cook they laughed at her and at 37 she still can't cook, her husband does it! It makes me sad.

Well we got some bad news about Jessica's grades, she still has the 2 F's. Paul spoke to the principle and she said that Jessica can stay at the school but that's not what the letter I recieved said, so I just don't know. Jessica claims she turned in all the assignments but the teachers say she didn't. I hate to think that my daughter is lying to me but I just don't know what else to think. She is bright enough to do the work but some how she just isn't doing it, or she's not turning it in. I don't know what to think. So frustrated and disappointed.

When I talked to the school about Mike's summer school, they said not to worry about cost,that SPED money would pick it up, and that the hours would be between 8-10. When I got a letter from the school a few days later, they said I owed 185 dollars and that the hours were from 9-11. So I called the school back and the info I got by phone was correct. all that to say just because it's in the letter doesn't necessarily mean it's so. You could call the school anyway, even though Paul told you what the principal said, just for clarification since you now information that is conflicting.

Kim, I hope you can get it clarified and that Jessica can stay at her school. Will she have to go to a different school for high school, or is staying at the school through grade 12 an option?

Anybody's kids good at losing things? I handed my son his camp dvd in its case yesterday, and he took it. Now it's nowhere to be found. Oh well, motivation for him to clean his room. Actually motivation for me to make him clean his room. I also haven't seen his Bible since he got back. I should email his sister to look for it at camp.

Oh but don't you know, Dee that it's not the kids that lose their things? Oh No! It's NOBODY's fault that things go missing! NOBODY lost the pen to this library book we have checked out. NOBODY loses the remote on a regular basis (and mom is always the one that has to find the lost items). NOBODY is this invisiable entity that lives in all homes where kids reside and leaves once those kids grow up and leave home as well.

Oh, thanks for the reminder Garsy, I momentarily forgot. [8D] That's why N expects me to drop everything to find the missing item. Cause he didn't loose it! It takes on a new sense of urgency when I tell him to go look for something rather than play on the computer.

Kath, yes, it's amazing where stuff shows up.

His digital camera is also missing; that really aggravates me. I need to help him go through his whole room. Somehow I just don't get excited at the prospect though. There is a flea problem in his room, so the floor got fairly well cleaned so he could vacuum well today. Hopefully it's because the treated cats haven't been in there as much while he was gone. This evening there was stuff on the floor again.

That is so aggravating! Linz's room can look so good and like 10 minutes later look like a tornado hit it. I can't understand it.

Well between all the errors and miscommunications about a month now. We've been living on our savings and that is about gone now. We had to borrow money from Brian's sisters to pay the gas bill just yesterday or they were going to shut us off.

Thankfully tho we still qualified for food stamps but on the very low end of it all and because of Brian being out of work they upped that for us. We may not be able to buy the gas for the cars to GET to the grocery store but we've got money to eat with!

I did walk up to the local butcher shop today and bought one of their variety boxes of meat. It's a good deal really! I got:

2 packages (4 to a package) of pork chops
2 pork roasts (about 1 -2 lbs each)
2 BIG beef chuck roasts
2 packages of minute steaks (4 per package)
5 lbs of ground beef
5 lbs of pork sausage
1 package of pork steaks
and one HUGE package of pork spare ribs.

Plus I added a couple packages of bacon and a container of their simply delicious pineapple walnut salad!

All for $83!

So I can't complain to much.

What is it with meat today??? I went and picked up our beef order this morning too ... 260lbs of it!!! Came to $621.40, which isn't bad (normally our beed order rings in close to $800, but we skipped all the soup bones this time around). We have also ordered a full pig, and that is supposed to be ready in another week or so (they are smoking half the meat for us, so we will pick it all up at the same time, rather than making two trips). That will be enough meat to fill our freezer for 3-4 months (that is, once I get a dozen or so chickens as well) ... we figured we had better stock up now, before baby arrives and dh takes parental leave, which will cut his income by almost 50%.

Well considering 5 lbs of hamburger at Walmart would cost me at least $8 now and I can't get decent pork roasts at all there and pork chops usually look pretty nasty. AND I know that all the meat at the butcher is locally processed from local farms - well it's keeping local people in business!

That's the same reasons that we use a local butcher too ... plus all our ds's have allergies to additives, the meat is grown without hormones added, and the butcher doesn't add anything to the meat either (commercially prepared ground beef, for example, has red food dye added for aesthetic appeal) So even though the butcher shop is 25 minutes outside of town, I consider it well worth the drive.

Some of it does. Some doesn't. My sister is very allergic to red dye, and I have a minor sensitivity to it also, so we have to be careful where we get our hamburg. Walmart doesn't (or at least ours doesn't) because they use some gas in the sealed packaging to keep it fresher longer...so no dye. Actually, some of the smaller shops are ones that use red dye the most, we've found.[:o]

Had to chuckle at this. Reminded me of No Body and Ida Know who were often showing up in the Family Circle comic strip.

We have a time-honored ritual that comes up anytime someone has "lost" something. "Did you check your room?" "Yes." "Did you actually walk in the door and pick up or move something?" "Uh, ... yeah." "Did you move or pick up something under the bed, in the closet, on your bed, etc." "Umm, ... I'll go look again."

Of course, if I look and find (usually within five minutes), I get to say, "Look what can be found if someone would clean up around here a little." And I usually come up with something that they "looked" for last week, as well. [8|]

Isn't find-and-seek a wonderful game? [;)]
