He is really easy going about pretty much everything. In fact when his friend A called and told him he wasn't going to make it because he ws going out of town to see his grandparents, Ethan pretty much wanted to cancel the party anyway. His other best friend called earlier that week to tell him that she was going to be in Germany the entire month of June so he was kinda bummed that 2 of his 3 best friends weren't going to be able to make it. I'm just going to tell the one neighbor boy, the only one that did say he would be coming, that we decided to cancel the party. He can come over and hang out with Ethan anytime anyway. So he's bummed - but not overly upset about it. He knows it's summer time and that is was very likely that the invites got left in the bags of stuff sent home from school that last day that many parents don't go thorugh anyway.

Blessings,

Garsy

I was just going to ask the same thing.

I'm glad he's ok with it.

I'm sorry about Ethan's party. We have the same problem with Jessica. Too close to the end of school. We invited about 15 this year and had 4. Most of the people didn't even bother to RSVP. So we feel your pain.
Hope he has a good day anyway.

I think for us it has everything to do with LOCATION. Ya see we are off the beaten path and quite a ways away from the vast majority of his classmates. They would have to make a special trip and there is really nothing much to do out here either. Which is why I stated that parents were more then welcome to stay was well and that we would feed everyone. But nope. oh well. Now I bet if we held his party at the Pizza hut in town, we would have gotten a lot more RSVP's and people would have actually came.

Anyway we had a great day anyway. We invited one of Ethan's friends to go to the Zoo with us and then on a whim went to the Lincoln museum in Fort Wayne that is closing at the end of June. We had a great time! And I think the kids learned something to boot! Aryn took a lot of photos at the zoo today! She's becoming quite the photographer! I'm hoping the camera that my folks are bringing for her is a decent one because she'll definitely use it!

We're off to the soccer picnic. More later.

Blessings,

Garsy

I hope it's digital! I spent I don't know how much money on film for linz before we bought digital. Best investment we ever made.

I wish I knew Kath! It's getting just as bad as returning phone calls. Nothing irritates me more then calling someone getting their machine - leaving a detailed message requesting that they call you back to confirm and NEVER getting called back!

Blessings,

Garsy

Garsy-I'm sorry about Ethan's party. It sounds like you all had a better time (and a more relaxing day) at the zoo and the museum.

Happy Birthday, Ethan!!!!!!

I think for some of Jessica's friends that's an issue we go to church in one town and live in another. On the other hand our Associate Pastor's wife drove her daughter from way out in the country to our place. I wish people would at least let us know, even if the answer is no.

I'm really glad Ethan and his friend had a good day.

Yay Noah!

Happy Birthday Ethan!

I'm sorry about the summer parties that don't work out. One year my middle daughter's then best friend was going to have a party in the summer. My daughter was getting home from camp that evening if I remember right, so I was going to have her meet them at the skating rink if we got back to town in time. Then there was a sleepover. But I guess nobody else could really come, so they cancelled. Mom felt really bad I know. That fall they ended up having her party. But what they ended up doing was taking my daughter and a cousin along with their family to Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park).

One of the boys from my son's scout den had a bday party once. They live about 10 miles out in the country. The only kids from the den there were my son and another kid. The boy was homeschooled so he didn't know any of the kids from school. I think there may have been a small number (1 or 2?) of other kids that came. I felt bad for the boy and hope he still enjoyed his party. My son had a great time! Maybe it was the out of the way thing that was mentioned; I'm not really sure why so few kids came actually.

Hubby and his chainsaw went to help clean up tornado damage this afternoon. The schools high school and middle/elem school combo were both damaged. I saw something on TV today that made it sound like the schools wouldn't be usable in the fall; I'm wondering if they will have to rebuild, or just do extensive repairs. On another message board I read that the woman that was killed by the tornado there had an 18 month old daughter. So sad. Life can change so quickly. They were a very young family.

Dee

That's sad, Dee.

Shock of all shocks...J didn't have a problem with the summer schedule I came up with. I'm sure she knew it was me that came up with it too. I suppose she still has plenty of time to cause trouble, but at the moment, she said it looks perfect. I'm wondering if she'll enjoy not having him much on weekends because they party a lot on weekends, especially in the summer, and now they won't have to worry about him. I personally would rather have him more weekends because Brian sometimes works 6 am to 8 pm during the summer, so he should be home much more when Nick is here with this schedule. I'm still not happy about the school situation because I don't think it's best for him, but maybe this will be a good thing for me this summer, especially since I'll be soooooo pregnant.

Oh my gosh!!!! I went away for a few weeks and this thread already got huge. Well, my kids are finally on summer break and I hope everybody else is having a good summer so far. I haven't yet had time to read through this thread.

Two weeks ago we had harsh rain and alot of houses and schools here were flooded. My kids even had to take a day off of school because of flooding. The water was so deep that when I tried to drive home, I got stuck and saw cars with water almost up to their windows.

Our house was ok and so was the house we bought so now we get to move next week. I just wanted to check in and make sure people were all doing well and see what parents are planning on doing with their kids this summer.

Our summer is already packed until about the middle of July so hopefully we will get some down time there.

Jake is on vacation with his dad this week and this year he brought a cell phone with him. He has been gone since Friday and his phone has been off most of that time. I told him that I wanted him to check in at least here and there and he said he would, but he hasn't. I am starting to think that he is no longer in possession of his own phone.

I hate that because his dad calls here and expects to talk to him, but won't let me talk to Jake when they are gone. Then gets mad that I want to have contact with my son while he is gone for 10 days. What kind of paren't wouldn't?

Anyway, all I can keep in mind is that no news means that he is ok because if not, I would have had to hear about it.

My husband's son (the one he put up for adoption) is having problems with his adoptive father. I guess he hasn't gotten along with him for a while. We met around Christmas time and he hasn't told his dad because he said he was afraid his dad would ruin it. Well, he chose father's day to tell his adoptive father that not only does he know who his biological dad is, but that we have been in contact and visiting on a regular basis. I don't know what to say about that because his parents are in court still fighting over custody and child support. He is going to be 18 in August. So I guess I got off easy with my divorce in some ways.

Kali started her pom team stuff and I had to spend last week attaching rhinestones to her dance costume. So many parents were complaining, but I guess that is normal so I don't see why
they were complaining. Plus the studio said that any parent who didn't want to do it could have an employee of the studio do it for $25.00.

Kay is just bouncing around like a 4 year old. We are working on her letters and she could care less. So if anyone has any suggestions I am open.

Have a great day everyone and I will try to catch up in this thread when I have a bit more time.

I'm glad your house is ok! I would hate for my car to have it up to the windows, can you imagine the mildew and smell? still better than damage to a house.

I had to drive home in it and it was horrible. What normally would have been a 15 minute drive took me an hour and a half, and that was just to get a mile and stop to call my dad and have him come get me with his truck. I flipped out. We did lose alot of our roads and a decent stretch of freeway is still closed. But it was worse in other places. We were watching houses literally fall apart. Brand new beautiful houses.

Donna, when are you due? I had good timing that way. I was either getting pregnant in the summer or delivering late in the winter or spring.

Where are you again Tracy?

My sister is currently in Hannibal, MO. and she says it is horrible there! She says it's kinda scary because they are now thinking that one of the levees there might give way if it's pushed to much more! She was also telling me that one of the guys she and her partner have working for them took some time off to drive two hours upstream from where they are to go see his family and it took him 6 hours just to find a way into town that wasn't barricaded with troops telling him to turn around and find another way! I guess this employee has asked for a week off now too - so he can be there to help his wife, dd and her parents get moved to higher ground! Thankfully, they have family further out that are out of harms way and have a huge farmhouse with plenty of room.

Ya know how I said Brian's professor didn't show up for class last Thursday? Well it happened again today! I"M LIVID!!! I'm writing up a bill to send to the prof. $20 should cover it! The kicker this time is that the secretary of the department DID send out an e-mail this time. . . . . A FULL HOUR after class started! A FULL HOUR! Whole lot of good that e-mail did anyone! Brian's going to start calling the department office in the morning an hour before class to confirm that the professor is actually going to show up.

We just got done watching the Underdog movie! It was incredibly cute! Lots of laughs for a TRUE Underdog fan!

I had great timing too! All my babies save one were born in the winter so while I was pregnant during the summer months I wasn't so huge that it was uncomfortable! And the one that was born in the Spring - well enough said! When are you due again Donna? I'm sure I've been told at least once but alas I can't remember much these days! My sister is also pregnanat and due August 5th, but doubts she'll make it that far, she's predicting the weekend of the family reunion that she, my brother, their families, and my parents are hosting, which would be the 1st or 2nd.

Wow I didn't realize how late it was!

Off to bed for me!

Blessings,

Garsy

I could accept not showing up once without advance notice ... like maybe his tire blew on the drive in or something to that effect ... but twice in less than a week??? That's pathetic!!! And putting out an email an hour AFTER the class starts??? That's just poor management all the way around. I'd be talking to the Dean if I were Brian ...............

I'm due September 5th, so will have to go all or most of the summer. All the other kids were born in February, so I had morning sickness in the heat, but that's all. Not the timing I would have picked, but I know it'll work out. I'm hoping for a mild summer with lots of nice breezes. Just over 11 more weeks!

Garsy... That is ridiculous.

Tracy, maybe not the best timing for stepson to tell his adoptive dad. Is your husband happy to be in contact with him?

Hello, everyone!

Hope the weather is drying out for those of you still dealing with storms. Please send some of the water our way, we're still dry, dry, dry. We've heard thunder and seen lightning, but very little of the wet stuff. I actually had enough rain to wipe my windshield once Friday on my way home from the store.

Tracy, glad your houses were okay. I wish you lots of patience and energy during the moving phase. Hope Jake is having fun, and that he checks in soon.

Garsy, I like the idea of the bill, though it sounds as if this professor has some issues.

Donna, I wish you lots of cool breezes and no loss of a/c. My third was a September baby, but both older children were spring babies.

We found out today WHO dropped the ball as far as notifying people about Brian's professor not showing up. It was the office staff of the department! I guess the professor was actually surprised people showed up for class last Thursday, He was put in the hospital on Tuesday afternoon last week and just got out last night! So while it was reasonable that he missed class - the office staff of the department dropped the ball when they were told to notify his students both last week and yesterday. Brian told them that they needed to hire me to run their office and junk like that wouldn't happen!

Took Ty to take his placement exam for AP World history today. He doesn't think he did all that great but we'll find out in about a week!

Brian's car is in the shop, getting a fuel line fixed. Hopefully this won't be TOO costly of a job, but it's got to help because we can't afford to have gas dripping onto the ground either!

Tracy - so glad both of your homes are okay!

YUCK - the neighbor is mowing. That means we'll have to within a day or two too. Well we need to anyway.

Brian is home!

Blessings,

Garsy

Thanks for the well wishes you guys.

Donna, if you lived here, there would be no heat. I don't know if I am happy for the cold and rainy weather or upset. I live in Wisconsin right on Lake Michigan. We got hit pretty hard with the rain, but Lake Delton which is a bit northwest of us really got it. There was a lake that overflowed and when it did that, the bank washed away. The entire lake drained. When that happened, houses were literally falling into the hole it left.

My SIL had over 20K in damage to her house and her insurance only covers half of that. She had a sewage backup. I guess there is something you can buy so that your sewere can't back up into your house so after all of this, I am going to look into it.

My hubby and I went for a walk through the parkway near our house. It is blocked off to traffic and we wanted to know why since we didn't see any water. Well, the corner of the bridge that goes over the creek just collapsed. It was a sight to see. I don't know how or when they are going to fix that one, but that bridge has been there all my life. It is a very pretty area so hopefully they can maintain its beauty.

Deb, thanks for asking about Jake. So far, he has not checked in and his phone is still off. I don't think it is asking too much to talk to him before bed for a minute or two even every other day. But that is how they do things. Jake even told his psych doc before he left that he was afraid that they were not going to let him call home so I know that it isn't because of him that he isn't calling. But I am making sure to leave a short message every day so that he knows I didn't just forget about him.

My kids are feeling a bit neglected because of this move thing. My husband is busy at work and I don't think he fully understands how long it takes to pack an entire house and move it. Yesterday I had to tell him to go start packing up the things on his workbench in the basement. We still need to empty our garage and I have pretty much taken care of everything else that I can for now. It is stressful and I really shouldn't complain about him, but since we both work, I don't think it is asking too much for help. Like I said, I am taking care of alot of things. I am just getting worried that it isn't going to get done and we are going to be running around at the last minute looking for more boxes just to pack our things in.

The people we bought from said they are going to let us in a day early so I guess if it comes to that, I can have him move the things I already packed, and then unpack them and we can reuse some of the boxes. I have been collecting them and buying them from the day we got the offer on our house. We also used alot of space bags for blankets, pillows and things like that, and I still have alot of empty totes.

I also got rid of alot of things like clothes that were too small or getting too small, old toys, art supplies that we don't use, basic garbage, and kitchen things I just didn't use that often. But there is still so much more. But my friend is going to have his son and some of his football team friends come and help. I am going to pay them and feed them. I think I will be cheaper off paying them because they can eat.

But at this time next week, I will be actually moving and I am so excited and stressed at the same time. Big sigh......

Happy Tuesday to all, and I hope everybody is well. I am sorry I have been complaining. I really am trying not to.

Yes there is ... we have one of them, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called (blame my preggy brain) ... it is essentially a one way valve of sorts, that goes into your main drainage point ... it really does work, too ... a few years ago, every house in my neighbourhood had sewer back-up issues, except us ... our house stayed clean and dry!!
