We saw Mike and Kelly in concert today at Potters Church in Cave-in-Rock, IL. It was the second time we have seen them, the first time being late last summer at the same venue. Those 2 and the 3rd member of their trio, Jeff Snyder, have really gelled into a group with a great and somewhat unique sound. Last time they only had older things to sing, but this time they sang songs from their brand new project, as well as some of the older Crabb Family songs and Mike Bowling songs. Jeff was very impressive, both when accompanying on the keyboard, and singing the lead or lower harmony part. Mike was very at ease as the emcee, and Kelly testified with a great passion. Even though we had seen her multiple times as part of the Crabb Family, her warm personality really seemed to emerge in today's setting.
They took a few requests near the end and thus sang "Don't You Wanna Go" (probably Kelly's signature song with the Crabb Family), "The Call", "Thank God For the Preacher", and "Graceland". Jeff also sang the old Goodman song "Who Am I", accompanied by Mike on the keyboard, and they sang a Dotti Rambo song, "Too Much To Win To Lose", (in tribute to her), with Mike playing the keyboard.
We talked with all of them, and they are extremely nice and down-to earth folks. My wife even told Mike that his voice reminded her of Mearle Haggard, which made him laugh and smile.
One other nice thing about the concert was that Jeff Snyder's grandparent were able to be there, as his hometown of Owensboro, KY, is not all that far away.
I started this as a seperate thread hoping that others would share their views on this group. We wish them much success in this time of high travel costs, and look forward to seeing them again.

Can you believe that I still have not seen them? Last summer when they were on the program with the Crabb Family, Kelly was ill and Amanda Crabb substituted for her. I have been a Mike Bowling fan from first day I saw him with the Crabb Family and then as a soloist. I know he was around before then, but that was when I became aware of his existence.
From what little I have heard of them on the radio, they sound good.

I'm pumped to see "Your Cries Have Awoken The Master" at the #2 position on the Top 80 for two months straight! What a powerful song, done so well live. [:)]

One other unusual but nice thing I might add about Sunday's concert was that they were there for a flat fee that the church paid without taking up an offering at the concert, and the minister explained that and suggested that some might want to give them some more diesel money. We were there as visitors so we gave Mike the amt. we would have put in an offering, and we noticed that others in the same situation as us also did likewise. I do not ever remember seeing that before, but it was a good idea, and I know the Bowlings appreciated it.

Will get to see them together for the 1st time I believe in July at the Singing Echoes Annual Homecoming in Cleveland Tennessee. Looking forward to it. I can remember Mike with the Perrys and the New Hinsons. Love his solo albums. Haven't been able to see all three together yet and am looking forward to the Cleveland date.

Great group. I have seen them several times since Kelly and Jeff Snyder came aboard. They are fast becoming one of my favorite trios. I enjoy their sound/style. I also really like them keeping those old Hinson tunes alive. Mike really does a great job on one of my all time favorite Hinson songs "That I Could Still Go Free". "Your Cries Have Awoken The Master" is a another great song written by Becky Bowman and Sonya Isaacs. One of my most played songs right now!!

one of the best trios out there. solid sound and love the couhtry style to the music as well. in my opinion, SG needs LOT LOT LOT more country style to it. am glad they carrying the music as good as they are.

and is a shame that song isnt number 1

I was so proud when Kelly joined Mike they look so happy standing and singing together. they have a great sound but that not the only thing i like about them it is the Spirit they have the Power you feel makes as my dear old daddy would say the Holy Ghost bumps on your arms and make the hairs on your arms stand up it just make me want to run a circle. i believe the Lord has great plans for this Group. and i would ask each one of you to say a prayer for them as they travel the highways doing the Lord's work.

Agreed!! This group has great songs and a great spirit. All of them ministered when I saw them. As I stated in another post, Hope was a show stopper, but this group was solid and anointed. The power of a great song amazes me. I will go see them every time I can. I thought I would be disappointed because there was no band, but I didn't even notice.

I whole heartedly agree. I know I am in the minority but a great song is more important to me than the artist singing it. I guess that is why my music collection is so large. I have personal favorite artists just like everyone else but at the end of the day it is all about the song!

TQ_Fan_4_Life -> RE: Mike & Kelly Bowling (6/28/2008 9:26:44 PM)

Seaton I really truely agree. the song says it all.

MsJudy -> RE: Mike & Kelly Bowling (6/29/2008 3:35:32 AM)

Although I haven't yet heard them in person, I agree with all the above. I've seen Mike on stage with the Crabbs and it just always seemed he & Kelly should be singing together. They have a certain spirit around them when they are together. Don't know a lot about Jeff, but I do know Mike is one of the friendliest people I know. I think Kelly was a bit shy with the Crabbs, but I feel she's coming out a lot more now. She has an Awesome voice!!! Sure hope to see them soon!

Seaton -> RE: Mike & Kelly Bowling (7/2/2008 7:27:15 AM)

Congrats to Mike & Kelly for taking "Your Cries Have Awoken The Master" to #1. It is easily one of my favorite songs of the year.

ujpowers -> RE: Mike & Kelly Bowling (7/2/2008 7:27:45 AM)

The Bowlings have done it again another #1 song on the singing news chart. keep up the great work guys.

youngartist -> RE: Mike & Kelly Bowling (7/2/2008 11:51:15 AM)

Wow, what a great song that finally went #1 after 7 months on the chart, and the last 2 at #2!
