Bobby -> Betty White quote! (6/1/2008 10:39:22 PM)

CBS promotions department had this interesting exchange between Regis Philbin and Betty White in regards to the return of Password, the first primetime version in over 40 years.

Regis Philbin: Betty (White) was so enamored with the game (Password) she fell in love with the host, and married him.

Betty White: I slept with the host of "Password" all of those years. What are you doing here? (on Philbin hosting the show which her late husband made famous)

Roberta_ -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/1/2008 11:27:44 PM)

I lost respect for Betty White once I became a Christian and understood how truly immoral her characters/roles were.

uncabeeil -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/2/2008 10:05:06 AM)

But she's only speaking the truth. She was married to Allen Ludden, who was the original host of Password. So she did sleep with the host of Password for all those years.

That's what I was just thinking.

Why? I know nothing of her personal life, but her roles are her roles. If she is playing an immoral character, that's just acting.

I always liked Betty White...she was a good actress.

Why promote anti-Christian values?

uncabeeil -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/5/2008 3:02:42 PM)

Because she's an actress doing her job. There are actors in soap operas that are professing Christians yet I don't see anybody knocking them for the roles they play.

Start a thread on them and I probably would. The only problem is that I don't watch soaps anymore. Gave those up shortly after I got saved because they weren't good for my walk.

Nope, don't care enough about it.

I understand where you're coming from, Roberta. Her Sue Ann Nivens character on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, was far less than moral.

But then, to a much lesser degree, so was Mary Richards. She slept around too, remember? (Very discreetly, of course.)

I guess my point is, where do you draw the line? For me, this is situational comedy, it's not real, I take it for what it is, and laugh. Drama is another thing, I simply wouldn't care for an immoral character like that.

Back to Betty White. I've always loved her. I've always felt that if I could have chosen my mother, it would have been her.

I forgot about Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Moore. I was thinking of her on The Golden Girls as Rose.

she originally auditioned for the role of Blanche but they thought she would do the character of Rose better. (So is that the "lesser of two evils"?[8|])

Roberta_ -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/5/2008 5:56:26 PM)

Sarah- I remember reading something about that.

henny -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/5/2008 6:10:25 PM)

If you think her role on Golden Girls was bad, you definitely should not watch her on the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner.

She gave an incredibly raunchy monologue that was completely vulgar (although entirely hilarious).

I won't post a link (it would violate TOS), and it's not on Youtube (Comedy Central bars all their videos from youtube), but you can easily find it by searching google.

I love Betty White.

I don't see how this is promoting anti-Christian values. By this logic, a Christian actor could never be cast as the villain. This makes no sense to me.

jodavi -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/5/2008 7:15:20 PM)

She also made an appearance in Ugly Betty as herself and she was a hoot. Rose is still my favorite character.

Rose???? She was the only one on that show that didn't sleep around! If that character is immoral to you then you'd better get rid of your tv.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Betty White quote! (6/6/2008 8:16:35 AM)

Betty White is a nice lady from what I have read and seen about her. She is an actress playing a character. Some people have a hard time telling the difference between the two.

I agree and don't also forget that not all actors who appears in Christian movies and even played Jesus are Christians.

Uh.... yes she did.

The theme of the show was that older single women have fun too ---- even by having sex with those they aren't married too.

If an actor portrays a lifestyle that the Lord abhors, just like the ones you see on the soaps, i dont buy for a second that they are christians if that is who they say they are. You dont talk Christ, you walk Christ
Luke 11:28
He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
1st Thessalonians's 5:19-22
Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22Avoid every kind of evil
