Thought I would get us started for the week. Hope you all find this. I am ready for work, to begin my day and its toil. The work I accomplished this weekend has left me satisfied and filled with a sense of accomplishment. My bedroom is almost organized. Still have the clothes to re-organize and the summer clothes to bring out; the winter clothes to put away but the furniture is washed and polished; the books are re-organized; the bedroom rearranged. Did break the bed when I was moving it. My oldest came by and I had him help me put it back together. Wish I could do the same with the lamp I broke. It is an old lamp from hubby's mom. We had two, one on each end table and I had placed the top glass on the bed on top of all the books, well I took something off the bed then turned around and the next thing I hear is crash and shatter. Sure enough the glass top portion had fallen off and shattered. Made me sick to begin with but hubby took it well when I told him last night. Hubby and son came back early from the baseball tournament. The rain Saturday night had canceled Sunday's games. The first thing out of their mouths was, "what is all this stuff"! I had yet to get everything back in the bedroom that I had gotten out of it to re-organize the room. Did get that finished too yesterday. Now this weekend the office needs to be cleaned. Tons of stuff in there. It's dirty too. Dee, did you ever find clothes to take to your daughter that could get 'dirty'? It's been slow in here this weekend. Where is everyone? Ginny

Good morning, Ginny & Barb . . . thanks for starting us off, Ginny. Sounds like you both had a very productive weekend! Good for you!! I took the girls home Saturday, spent the night with them, then picked up my elderly friend (the one who used to come out and iron for me), who has moved up near Melissa, and she went to church with us. It was youth Sunday, so not sure she got much out of it, but I sure did. They did some awesome stuff. This morning I went to the gym about 6:30, then when finished called Garrett's daddy to see if I could maybe pick him up thereby saving daddy a trip out to the house, but he informed me Garrett was still with Grandma. His surgery (hernia) went okay last Thursday, but they had to make 4 incisions instead of the two they had planned, so Grandma decided to keep him another day or two until he heals better. I'm thinking she'll need to take him to for a re-check on that Thursday or Friday, so it's possible she'll ahve him all week. Anyway, with the free time this morning I decided to tackle on a flower bed that hadn't gotten weeded yet. This bed is always my last one to weed, and it's always in such a mess when I finally get to it. This time was worse than ever, I think. I've been down on my hands & knees a full hour -- seemed like three!! -- pulling weeks, digging weeks, and wiping sweat! <---------- that's sweat, not tears! I am BEAT!! So much so, I couldn't even stand for a shower, so I'm cooling off here a bit while my legs recover, then I'll go take a shower & clean up. While I've not got Garrett I also want to go check on a job my niece's friend told me about the other day . . . it pays REALLY good, she says, and I've been thinking I need to do something more. With the economy like it is, we are getting behinder and behinder, and I don't think it's going to get better. I hate to think about having to give Garrett up, tho I daresay that is going to happen soon anyway. But this job is possibly something I could do part time and still keep Garrett. We'll see.

Good morning everyone! Barb, that play equipment sounds cool. Ginny, thanks for starting us off this morning. I'm sure glad your husband wasn't too upset about the lamp. Linda, how nice to have a day or more to yourself without Garret!

Thanks for starting us Ginny! I'm sorry to hear about the lamp. Your backyard sounds very fun Barb! Leah, enjoy your time "off!" I hope something works out jobwise. Hi Maggie! Ginny, I was listening to my answering machine today and heard a message my oldest left yesterday. Apparently they canoe twice a day, so she thought she needed still more canoing clothes. I didn't hear the message until today. But she did talk to my middle daughter on the phone yesterday after we got home from church, and we got a few things together for her. I'm still amused by her not having enough "get dirty" clothes at camp. She has lots of nice stuff there. We had VBS this morning; should be another fun week. The first day is always the hardest I think, figuring out where to be and when. Dee

What are your plans for your birthday, Battleaxe? Hi Dee! Dh has been learning native hoop dancing. He just gave me a show a few minutes ago.

Dee, why did your daughter take her good clothes to camp? Is Cody off to his? How are you filling your days without them? Barb, I will say again your energy and efficiency amazes me. With my fibromyaglia I know that if I ever tried to do all you do I would be bed ridden for days with intense pain. I have to pace myself and the projects I do. Expect I'll pay for this weekend all week. Hopefully by this next weekend I'll be ready to take on another cleaning project. Maggie, I think you made a good decision about your book. Leah, enjoy your time off. Let me know about the potential part-time job. And I feel for you girl in how you felt after weeding the flower bed. Cassandra, woohoo birthday coming up. Wish I could do some graphics on here to celebrate some with you. Ginny

Cody is Barb's son I believe, but my son, N, is off to camp. So is my middle daughter. We have VBS in the mornings this week, so that's mostly what I'm doing. E has shorts and t-shirts at camp, but not ones she wants to get dirty in the creek. She should have taken more t-shirts she doesn't care much about, but I don't think she even has that many shorts that she would happily get dirty. She packed for a month, so she wanted some of her nicer things there. A lot of time the creek is either too high or too low to go canoing, so I think it took her by surprise. Dee

Ok, Dee, thanks. I thought you had said your son was going to camp and after I did my post thought oh no, I believe Cody is Barb's son so I asked for a reminder. My dad who is 85 and has cancer is someone who can't stop being active. He has a tree farm, grows pine trees and loves working. Last week while on his tractor a dead tree suddenly fell and struck the tractor and him. It hit his arm thankfully, only brush by him as it fell on the front of the tractor but the tractor is dented and something broke on it. I am truly grateful that the tree didn't land on Dad as he wouldn't have been alive if it had. Dad said mom is anxious now about him and keeps checking on him. It was a close call. Dad loves working so even this won't stop him from going back out and bushhogging and working in the woods. And this is a man who has declined further chemo treatment as he has decided that he likes not being sick from chemo and would rather at this time in his life enjoy what time he has left without getting sick from medicine that would try to extend his life. I've prayed God will give him some more years to live. He and mom have been married since 1946 and they are very close. They do everything together. Last night when I called they were playing dominos. Mom won't have any family when Dad is gone living in the same state as her. It will be an adjustment for her to leave everything. She is 78 or 79 I forget. And mom is a worker too. It was just last year that she closed down her small gift shop and began to get rid of inventory. There is a lot left for her to do to economize her life and be ready for the coming adjustments. I hope for her time to do so and time to be with Dad. Ginny

Good Tuesday morning, everyone! Happy Birthday, Cassandra! Ginny, I sure am glad your father wasn't hurt! Wow! That would be awfully scary, and I sure can understand your mom being a bit nervous about it now. Dee & Barb, I still remember the camp days (and VBS) and all the fun the kids had . . now I get to hear about it from my granddaughters Maggie, I didn't know your DH was taking dancing . . . I'd like to see that! I got to chase cows out of my yard first thing this morning. I had already called the owners about them (2 lawyers who live down the road from us and can't seem to afford to keep their fences fixed ), when I just happened to noticed the cows had moved from the lower part of the yard to the flower bed . . . So I ran out the door yelling at them, and Samson joined me and started barking at them (that was so funny ) . . . . anyway, they took off up the road. The owner did come by, but apparently wasn't successful in getting them corralled cuz one of them showed back up in my yard, tho this time it was just leaving the yard to go back on the road, so I didn't have to chase it. It crossed the road and seemed to be looking for a place to get back into the field where it belonged. If it gets in my flower garden, I am going to be all kinds of upset with these ppl. The reason we stopped putting out a veggie garden years ago was because of the neighbors cows (different neighbors). Anyway, I'm sewing this morning already, but something just kept not sitting right with me -- you know, off-kilter somehow. Finally I realized I'd left my full cuppa coffee in here at the computer when hubby called me to help with the trash . . . . . . why do I think I can function without that first cuppa coffee . . . . it's nearly cold now, but I'm still drinking it. I checked on the job yesterday. It sounds like a real possibility for later on -- they weren't needing any help right now as my friend had thought. It was interesting tho . . turns out one of the managers (maybe owners?) worked at the same place I did (not at the same time) when I first got out of school 40 years ago -- Wow! that seems like a really long time!! . . . Also, a friend of mine from school works at this sewing place, so I know at least 2 ppl there. It seems a very friendly, busy, but laid-back atmosphere. I just got a call from Garrett's daddy, and is seems I'll have him around 10:30, so guess I better go get some more sewing done before he gets here.

Yep Barb, I took her some clothes for canoing and some other things she wanted Sunday when we took the middle two kids down. Maybe she'll call or email and let me know how things are going. Day 2 of VBS went much smoother than day one! Happy Birthday Cassandra!!!!! Dee

Hi everyone! I had plans to take a friend out this afternoon but it didn't work out so I'm sitting at one of my favourite places, relaxing with a cup of Earl Grey (hot). It's a beautiful day outside and there are tables there on the other side of my window but I'm inside anyway. I don't feel so well. Ginny, I like your dad's attitude. My mom had a friend, a man who wanted to marry her, who was dying of cancer. He too refused treatment. It wasn't until the very end that you could tell he wasn't well. He was a fun guy, living life to the fullest like your dad. Your parents have been married over 60 years. Wow! So cool! That is a huge achievement. quote:
Maggie, I didn't know your DH was taking dancing . . . I'd like to see that! These lessons are short term, for a specific performance this Thursday. There will be a fair bit of media coverage, I'm thinking, so I'll send you a URL when I've got one. Cows? Sheesh! I like cows but not in my back yard. Mind you, even a couple of cows would find themselves crowded in my backyard. Barb, I wonder if my dh would be willing to try creating something like that for our grandchildren once we have some. His skills with tools is limited but kids wouldn't care if it didn't look perfect, so long as it was safe. How old are you today? I'm curious about your camp meeting. Would you be interested in telling us a bit about it? When I was a kid (40 years ago or so), camp meeting was held once a year in one of our national parks. Churches from across two provinces gathered for a weekend (sometimes longer) on lakeside property we leased from the government. I loved going because not only did I get to see friends from other places but also because the place was such a cool place to be. Nearly everything was done with tents--large tents. A small town of large, white, army-style tents, each large enough to hold four bunk beds was set up in neat rows. I loved watching these being erected and then a truck would drive up and down the rows, first with various-sized metal beds as pre-ordered for each family, and then with mattresses. The mattress run was a lot of fun and we kids could go along for the ride, sitting high on the top. I think my favourite thing, however, was watching the Book and Bible tent being raised. Huge wooden stakes were pounded into the ground by two men wielding sledge hammers in a rythmical beat. The centre of the tent was held up by two large poles, like telephone poles and a large group of men was required to pull on the ropes that raised the tent and the poles together. I loved the products the Book and Bible tent sold: theology books, stories of missionaries, and yummy foods we couldn't buy anywhere else. The meeting hall was a permanent structure built by my grandfather. The floor was covered with wood shavings and we sat on narrow benches, some of which had no backs. The shavings were fun to move around with the toes when meetings got boring. BUt they seldom were because there were tents as large as the book tent where classes for kids were held. Though we had a large clearing for our camp, we were surrounded by forest and going on hikes was a lot of fun. So were the water activities. The lake was icy cold and the bottom was covered with large, smooth rocks instead of sand but we didn't care. Even the bloodsuckers lurking near the dock didn't keep us away. Camp meeting was fun. I miss it.

Good afternoon, everyone! Yep, Cassandra, you are three years older than my oldest grandchild -- now THAT makes ME feel old! . . . I hope you are having a truly happy birthday Maggie, sorry your plans to take your friend out fell thru. You must be getting a good nap, tho -- hope you wake feeling better. Lattes are apparently not your drink -- didn't you get sick on one you had the other day?? Maybe that will all go away after the gall bladder surgery. Barb, the fort really does sound nice . . . wish I'd had something like that for the granddaughters. But they had all that at home so then Gramma's house wouldnt' have been much different than home. As it is, they've had to find 'different' things to do at Gramma's since I really have no playground equipment in my yard anymore. I do have 2 backyard swings and a play swing for the kids, tho, and we've put them to good use. When htey were little, and even now they seemed to get the biggest joy out of just having lots of space and lots of grass to run & run & run on . . . and they loved finding puff balls to blow -- we rather have a fondness for dandelions here Garrett & I just had a pleasant sit in the swing, in fact. I'm glad I got lots of sewing done before he got here, cuz he's sure not allowed me to do much since he came. He also didnt' take a nap . . had gone to sleep about 30 minutes before they got here at 10:30, so wasn't ready for a nap when nap time came. I laid down with him, but that didn't help . . he's too charming for me to leave alone when he's making faces at me, playing peek-a-boo, and just trying so hard to get me to laugh He has 4 incisions from his hernia surgery . . . somehow I thought these were supposed to be very small incisions, but the sure don't look so small to me . . well, I can't really see the ones on his privates, but the two in his groin look pretty big. Poor little guy -- sure seems like a lot of pain for a little munchkin to go thru. He's such a brave little fellow tho, and hardly even flinches when I change his diaper. They all have a clear, then film bandage over them, so we don't have to bother with that at least.
