Hi Covenant... :-)

well am sure you remember from that other health thread... my goal during pregnancy was not to put on any weight.... which in a way would mean that once I give birth I would have LOST weight.... of course without harming the baby!
so far I have gained 10 lbs as to my last dr's appointment... so in a way its not that bad.... but I am more concerned with afterwards.. I will have a C-section so I won't be able to be totally in the exercise mode till at least August .. which really doesn't leave me much time for the wedding even... I dunno... I am just way too overwhelmed...my only focus right now is to CONTINUE to not gain much weight for the next 5 weeks... and at least walk a little more the next few weeks also... I know it won't achieve that much.. but its something!.. I hope?!

I have a step, rubber tubing, stability ball, Bender ball and free weights. All relatively small things that I can pack away. I use everything. During the summer not as much because my friend and I walk every day for 1 hr to 1 1/2 hrs - pushing strollers, usually a double stroller. But I'd love the Treadclimber!

I do wish I had invested in a better double stroller - I've got a monster. Oh well, it sure gives me a good workout pushing that thing.

Don't be overwhelmed. You're not in it alone. 100 lbs probably can't happen by November, I'm afraid, and you need to focus on taking care of yourself and your baby for the next few months but you can start now - don't let yourself get overwhelmed so that you put off getting started...that just puts off getting healthy!

You can continue eating well through August, do light exercizing as you are able (like walking,) and will be at a better spot in August than if you just throw your hands up because you're overwhelmed. Then you have from August through November to continue eating well and build muscle with more serious exercise.

I am on bottle #6 of water today. Plus a small Gatorade.

It's so hot, I can almost feel the pounds melting off.

I wish it worked that way! No one in my town would be overweight ever. I'm imagining how our population would boom...

I'm not trying to lose weight right now. I'm trying to be a functioning pregnant woman in the middle of a heat wave.

GOOD...cause pregnant women don't need to lose weight!!!!! (and IMO they don't need to try to not gain weight either...but that's a whole other topic now isn't it)

you are doing great on the water today Donna....much better then I have been doing with it lately...all the swelling wasn't helped by the water I was drinking, so I cut back a bit (not to the point of being dehydrated)...helped a little but I doubt anything significant will help right now.

I would say you probably needed the Gatorade.

Thanks, Sarah.

I actually got up to 8 today, and will have one more before bed...so 4.5 liters total. So I guess a gallon on a hot day is not pushing it for me, but on a regular day, it is.

Yes, absolutely. I have a time balancing electrolytes when I'm pregnant for some reason. During the first trimester, I live off Gatorade because if I don't, I can't function.

Ugh! I was doing so nicely with my intake today....until supper tonight. All I can say is that being too tired and having a husband and son asking for a certain place with golden arches....it ended up sounding nice. I didn't make good food choices (they do have some decent food there); however, everyone else was grabbing a burger & I followed suit.

Tomorrow is a new day!!!

So here are some questions:

What is your ultimate goal for your body?

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?

If you aren't able to start working out now (pregnant mommas!! ) when do you intend to start reaching your goal?

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

Ultimate Goal: Lose 120 pounds

Weight Loss Plan: Counting calories, moderate exercise, 60+ grams of daily fiber, 9+ daily servings of vegetables, no caffeine or diet sodas, focus on complex carbs, lean proteins, heart-healthy fats.

Time Line : Nope. I am just taking it one meal at a time, one day at a time, one pound at a time. I started 8-22-07, so I am curious to see how much I'll have lost by the one year mark (8-22-08).

Working Out: I try to bike 4 days a week. I have health limits that prevent me from doing many/most exercises.

Mini Goals: I set up several mini goals along the way (lose 50 pounds, lose 75 pounds, get off insulin, lose 100 pounds)

More Questions!

Have any of you ladies found any magazines to be useful?

I was also wondering about those who are married, does your husband help or hinder your health and fitness goals? And how does he do that?

I'm not doing Weight Watchers, but their magazine actually has a lot of nice tips, recipes, ads and coupons. "Diet and Nutrition" was a bit of a disappointment, save your money.

My husband has been over-the-top, wonderfully supportive.... always encouraging, very motivating, absolutely no sabotaging, and he's provided some nice weight loss incentives to reward me for achieving my mini goals.

Hi Harvie!!! I haven't seen you around much lately- welcome back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I will go dig up the questions at some point in time, maybe....

I need to lose around 50 lbs to be back to a healthy weight for my size/age/build... I have been overweight for over half of my life now (something about puberty and me did not get along) and have a tendency to look at it as it is just the way I am. I have come to terms with the fact that I am overweight and I don't let it affect my self-image much.

As far as what I am going to do... well, after I move this next week (does lifting luggage to see if it weighs 70 lbs count?? ) I am going to try to walk at least a mile each day (of actual exercise- on the farm, I can walk a mile just doing work type things) and watch what I eat more. That is actually the harder part than the excerise since I will be able to enjoy foods that I haven't had in almost a year. Things like ham, roast, turkey, pork chops.... (see a pattern here yet?? )

Mini-goals - I am never good at setting and keeping those. It would be nice to have dropped some pounds by the end of the summer when I start my new job as well as by Christmas where I will see some family for the first time in quite a while.

Mainly I want to do it because I know that I will feel better and be able to do things easier. I have asthma and the extra weight is making it worse. This is also a problem with doing "plans" because I physically can't do what other people can do yet. I currently walk close to 1/2 mile each morning to catch a ride to work. Some mornings, I am exhausted after my walk and/or my asthma is causing me problems. So my goals/plans is to do what I can with my physical limitations right now. I need encouragement to do what I am able to do and rejoice in the little victories. My family isn't always supportive in this area because they want me to be able to do what they can do and I physically am not able to do it. So I end up frustrated and discouraged because I can't meet their expectations.

Eating Well is very helpful, esp if you are into whole foods type recipes

Cooking light, some of it is more gourmet stuff but some of it is everyday stuff.

Christine- I have a gazelle and it is really nice to have!! (I actually don't have it with me right now, so I am looking forward to using it more starting in Aug) In college I set it up in front of the TV and then would watch the morning news while I exercised- it was a great plan- especially in winter. Between having it and having some space to walk (even if it is cold) I should be good on the cardio side of things. I may also get a bike eventually (my brother has "stolen" mine) but since where I will be at gets cold and windy starting in Oct and lasts through Mar/Apr I really won't use it a lot. I also want to get some dumbbells to be able to do some strengthing exercises. I can also do crunches to help out. So I know what all I need to do, now it is just a matter of eating right. Again, this may be the hardest challenge simply because foods that I haven't been able to have for 2 years will now be available. I know I probably won't do as well here the first several weeks I am home since my mother is looking forward to cooking all of my favorites but keeping moderation in mind and then exercising, maybe I can maintain. I really don't know what I weigh right now since I don't have a scale, but I will get one when I move as I need the motivation of seeing that number get less.

Beth, that made it tough for me when I first moved back to the states too.
Oh my goodness...after 3 years without many of my favorite foods...I went.to.town.
Have strength! Enjoy all your faves again...just not TOO much LOL

Thanks Sandy!!!! My sister as asked for the top 10 things that I have missed. Not sure what she is going to do with that list yet, but I guess I will find out in a week. So candy and some of my favorite foods are on that list. I figure the first week I just need to enjoy being home and all of the good food that I have missed and then after that, be more careful and watch how much I eat. Since I will be staying in the states, I can get things when ever I really have a craving for it unlike last summer where I had 6 weeks to enjoy all of it before I wouldn't have it again for 10 months.

On the water, I normally do pretty good about getting a gallon in each day- if not more. Of course everything down here is measured in liters, but I can drink several liters at school (I drink 500 ml in about 2 mins - even if I just did that an hour before or so). At home I don't do as good - especially in the past couple of weeks since we have had quite a bit of coke sitting around after parties (and since we are moving...and I don't want to waste them...). My preference is Coke Light/Zero (not even sure if they exsist in the states, but that is what I drink down here). The Coke Light can also have Lemon in it and that gives it an interesting taste and I have come to enjoy. Other than some Pepsi (which just isn't quite the same down here and is my preference) I probably won't have a problem with pop in the states. Like I said, my tastes as far as pop has changed over the past two years and what I now like doesn't exsist in the states.. so dropping that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I am looking forward to having water for free!!!!!!!!!!!!! As in there are times down here where I limit how much water I drink because I don't have the money/time to go get more. So being able to turn on the tap and get cold!! water is going to be wonderful (1 more week and I can!!!).

We took the kids to the Nick Hotel in Orlando last night. That was fun. The sun wiped us all out. I packed all kinds of food trying to keep dh and I on track. We did pretty well. I did splurge on a glass of wine at dinner. We didn't have internet access at the hotel so I just tried to plug in everything on fitday.com best I could remember. I came up with 1419 calories at 44% protein, 34% carbs, and 16% fat yesterday. Planning ahead the rest of today, I plan to finish up at 1432 with 55% protein, 21% carbs, and 24% fat...a little high for an off day (but I did spend about 20 min on the bike at the hotel gym this morning) but I like those percentages. We'll see tomorrow morning if measurements change any. Monday is my day to measure.

Everyone have a plan for starting a new week tomorrow?
