Going down I-75 south of Atlanta at dinner time, stop at exit 201 (with all the truck stops) and eat at Buckners. Buckers is located behind the Flying J, and has been there since I can remember... used to eat there after church when we lived in the area. It's a small family owned, southern home cooking, family style restaurant (you sit at a big table with other strangers). Food is placed on a lazy susan, 3 meats 4 vegies, and cobbler for desert. All you can eat and is between $$ and $$$. In Macon, GA on Riverside Drive across from I-75 is S&S Cafeteria. Locally owned franchise, but really good for for little $. Their kids meals are the best deals! I can take my family and the in-laws for a total of 3 adults and 6 kids... and not spend more than $35!!!! [sm=dance.gif] Going further south, just outside of Montezoma, GA on Hwy 26 is Yoders. A Mennonite family owned restaurant. They serve what they grow and produce. Very good home cooking, and a fair price. $$$ In Atlanta, any Ray's restaurants... Rays on Killer Creek, Rays on the River, and Rays in the City. Very fine dining, dress code, and a great place to take the wife for a special occasion. Kids are not prohibited, but they do not have a kids menu.[;)] $$$$+ North east of Atlanta in Cumming, GA at Hwy 369 & 306 in the Publics shopping center, Rice is the BEST sushi and chines restaurant in the whole metro area. The down side is it's very small with limited seating. Tables fill up fast, but we usually just get it take out. $$ to $$$ depending on what you order. In Gainesville, GA, Seabones is downtown on the square. Casual, fine dining and not too bad on price $$$. For an inland restaurant, they have the best seafood I've ever had. Only open for the evenings. In the northeast corner of GA, Rabun County, Clayton, GA, Oinkers BBQ just south of town on Hwy 441. Great BBQ! Small family owned, and they are only open a few days each week. $$$. And of course in the same area, everyone knows about The Dillard House. It is good food, mostly home cooked all you can eat, but is not cheap. $$$$. However, if you ask for the "local discount", they'll knock off 30% to make it $$$. You don't have to be a resident to get the "local discount"... you just have to know to ask for it. In downtown Franklin, NC next to the courthouse, The Chef & His Wife. It's "American Grille" for casual, fine dining. $$$ I'm sure I'll remember more later, but that's off the top of my head. The one thing I love about my job and the traveling... I love to meet the people and eat good food with them. [:)]
