And what does how much money I spend each year have to do with anything?

The more you make the more you spend and create more garbage and use more resources making stuff you buy.

Let's see ... we don't buy processed food or anything like that ... kids have far too many allergies. So we spend MORE money than the average person by buying produce at the local farmer's market (which we walk to) or by growing our own. When we do go shopping, it is strictly for necessities, yet once again, it is the more expensive stuff because of all the allergies to the additives (like dyes and perfumes). So we are spending almost double per year than our neighbours, but creating a LOT less garbage ... and we have far healthier kids to show for it. (Oh, and we compost and recycle as well ... and we use the canvas bags when we do have to go shopping)

Agreed! Money spent is not a very accurate indicator when it comes to the amount of trash generated. I just spent nearly $3 a piece on heriloom tomato plants for my garden from a local nursery (3 blocks away - and we walked) I brought my own clay containers to take them home in and the owner of the nursery dug them right out of the ground for me. Now I could have went to another nearby store - within walking distance and purchased basic tomato plants for the discounted price of $1.40 but from experience they are not as hardy a plant and I usually end up WASTING my money because they die out or the crop is pitiful. Same goes for this same nurseries produce stand in the fall. I'll go there for any produce before I hit the other places because it's locally grown and delicious and I know by buying it there I'm supporting a local family and business. I spend a little more but there is less waste and I'm using NO gas because I can walk there, and I bring my own containers to bring things home in. And I know how the produce is raised. It costs more - but better for me and my community.

Blessings,

Garsy

The website believes MONEY equals CONSUMERISM equals MORE POLLUTION / GARBAGE
You may not agree with that.
I don't agree with the entire web site. [:'(]

I just drive...as fast as I can...to the nearest McDonalds and then stop on my way home to Bask and Robbins.....boy...wish I could afford a suv so I could carry home more ice cream.

[:D] As long as you're going to share with the rest of us! [:D]

Consecrated2God -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/7/2008 10:01:50 AM)

According to that quiz, I should have died at the age of 25. I'd like to know who's going to take care of my kids. [&:] Apparently, though, I did a good thing by having a lot of kids, since I share my resources with a lot of people. [:D]

Along the lines of scaring kids "green", I absolutely hate this commercial. The kids see it all the time during Saturday morning cartoons. It has a bunch of kids talking about all the horrible things that are going to happen because of global warning--hurricanes, severe famines, drought--and they imitate ticking clocks, getting louder and louder. It's a horrible commericial.

Look at the poorest and richest countries. Which have the greater levels of polution? Which have the greatest problem accessing clean water? Which have the greater problems growing food to feed their populace?
Which have the greater problems creating an infastructure to get their food and other needed products to market? Which countries have problems accessing health care and needed medicines? Which countries use the energy they do have in an inefficent maner? Which have the greatest problems educating their populace?

The greenies want us all to reduce our standard of living while doing nothing that has ANY impact on improving the enviroment. These individuals have infiltrated goverrment, education, media, entertainment and, sadly, the church.

zoebob -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/7/2008 4:52:23 PM)

I made it to 23.

colliefan -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/7/2008 5:22:27 PM)

I made it 7.4. This is pathetic and is typical of the garbage being fed our kids. I guess I committed the mortal sin of the greenies: I don't recycle.

Consecrated2God -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/7/2008 9:33:55 PM)

We don't recycle either, but the way that particular question was worded I was able to give myself some credit for taking the food scraps out to the chickens. [:D]

sunshine4God -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/7/2008 11:15:36 PM)

I made it to 21.I should have died 8 years ago.

Being that I am still young, I thought that maybe I would still be supposed to be alive right now. But it gave me 10 years, so I should have been dead for about 15 already too! This quiz is a joke. Almost all of my answers coincided with the "average" answer for the category, but I was still supposed to die as a child in order not to use up too much of my share of the earth? The biggest problem I can immediately point out is that when I was 10, I was not driving a car or spending money (other than a quarter a week allowance) or capable of investing money into environmentally friendly causes. So my answers reflected my lifestyle in the last 6 or 7 years, not my entire life, but the quiz still said I should have died 8 or 9 years previous to that time. So essentially what the quiz is really telling everyone is that you ought to die before you get the chance to use anything at all. Whoever created this quiz obviously did not take any common sense into consideration during the process.

Not half as scary as some of the dispensational drivel I heard in Vacation Bible School as a kid. The Aussies are a bit different, anyway.

LOL. I am amazed that our beloved (or not so beloved) ABC has made a mention on an American forum. The ABC has hit some controversy with our local media over this one. I believe a Senator was also trying to push for an inquiry.

The Australians Broadcasting Communism has a got a rep of been blatantly left wing by conservatives and other groups. It has also been a major campaigner against Climate Change. Make matters worse it is our tax $$ that has paid for this garbage.

See? If we all died as children, that would put an end to population explosion, pollution, wars, etc.

If you feel this conviction of truth, please by all means, send a nice fat donation to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in order to support the website in question. While your at it, could you please do me a favour and write a letter to our lovely Prime Minister begging him to give me tax refund that has sponsored this garbage. [:D]

Sounds like a new social movement! We could start death cults in the elementary schools to save the planet! Since man is a parasite on the earth after all! Then Mother Earth could reclaim the planet for nature!

But then suicide, disrespecting human life and earth worship are against my Christian values, so I guess I'll have to pass on this movement!

davemiller7 -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/11/2008 2:37:48 PM)

Unfortunately, I think there are such cults. Every one in a while one pops up on the news. We have recently had our eyes opened wide when we took in our wayward granddaughter. I don't think there were death cults, but she did almost get involved in a witchcraft coven. Kids can get into some BAD stuff out there.
