Tonight's performances:

Mark Day - It was hard to hear him when he was in the lower register, and he's not much of a showman, but he has a good voice - good control, etc. (Has he ever been in love with a girl? Can he FEEL the song?)

Paul Clifford - I liked him better tonight than other times.

Drew Wright - I don't know what it is, but I like him. :) Maybe it's more his personality or looks or something, but he's one of my favorites. But see my note on Martin - I find him to be similar.

Marie-Pierre Bellerose - Beautiful! I did hear how she was a bit too low on the lowest notes, but otherwise, it was great.

Mookie Morris - He's done the Beatles and the Kooks, two British bands. He does seem to be that 60's British rock style. He did it well.

Sebastian Pigot - I love his curly hair! :D I know others don't like him as much as his brother, but I like him better than Oliver. He's a great showman.

Martin Kerr - I like him, but I don't think he's unique enough or memorable enough to go all the way.

Lisa Bell - I liked her groovy spin on the song.

Gary Morissette - Ok, I've got to get this out: He looks SO much like someone I know, and some of his mannerisms are similar. It drives me crazy! As for his singing, I don't know. He's not my favorite by any means.

Amberly Thiessen - I really like her voice and her style.

Favorites tonight: Mookie, Sebastian, Amberly
The two I think should go home out of this group: Martin (sadly) and either Gary or Mark

This season they're showing a lot of the singers working with the band, saying things like, "on the second verse, I want it to be heavy on the drums" - I wonder if other seasons had the participants calling the shots so much on the arrangements or if it just wasn't shown.

On the preview of each singer, they seem to be showing more of the dress rehearsal - you can hear part of their song, which I'm not sure I like.

Adam Castelli - Weird song. It seems hard to sing with so many words. He often seemed off key to me. I agree with Jake (and the rest of the judges). I'd like to give him a chance, though.

Jessica Sheppard - She's got such a strong voice and great control. I liked her performance. In this case, I disagreed with the judges.

Jesse Cottam - He didn't seem to have control in the upper register. It was so-so.

04 Theo Tams - Great performance. Confident, good control. It seemed tough in the lower register, but I can see why he started so low since it goes up pretty high.

Katelyn Dawn - I don't know. It was okay. She's not one of my favorites.

Mitch MacDonald - I liked it, but don't have much else to day. LOL! Fun rhythms. Would've been nice if he had stood up, though. ;)

Katherine St-Laurent - She seems so mature, in her voice and demeanor. I like her.

08 Omar Lunan - Good song. He's got great control and great showmanship. I liked it a lot better than last week.

Earl Stevenson - He's a showman, but I don't care for his style. He didn't seem to hit the notes well, and he didn't seem to feel and sell the song very well, IMO. So... I didn't agree with the judges.

10 Oliver Pigot - Much better than last week. It was a weird note towards the end, though (before the last ooo's).

My top 3 this show: Theo, Omar, Oliver
Who I think should go home from this show: Jesse, Earl, and maybe Katelyn

Ok, so I kept the two episodes on my pvr and have been watching one long episode.

Mark - I think he's a good singer, but he seems so quiet and like last week I felt he was getting overpowered by the backup singers. I also question whether it was an appropriate song for him, with the whole loving a girl part.

Paul - I don't know, I'm just not a fan

Drew - like his voice, but didn't like the song tonight

Marie-Pierre - really liked her, love the raspy tone of her voice, though I agree with Zack that the lower register part was a little too low.

Mookie - love him! I swear he was singing with a British accent at some times though!

Sebastien - don't get what the big deal with him is. Honestly, the whole thing made me wonder if he's constipated.

Martin - like him, but felt he was just ok in this performance.

Lisa - I love the song, I love her, she has a great voice but I wasn't a big fan of the arrangement, though it did have a cool vibe.

Gary - haven't really liked him that much, though the song this week was good.

Amberly - wow, she is great. She seems like such a pro.

Favourites - Mookie and Amberly
Going home - Drew and Paul

It was just an ok night for me.

Adam - I like him but when Ben said the song he was doing I thought "oh no". Like Zack mentioned, it wasn't even a great song when Wyclef did it. But I think he should stick around because he is good.

Jessica - I agree with you Tricia, I also liked the performance, and I'm glad she didn't do it like Rihanna (that version is too well known.)

Jesse - I actually liked him, so maybe I wasn't paying that much attention or maybe it was because I just really like that song.

Theo - Definitely my favourite of the whole show. Is making me reconsider watching the show on the pvr the next day and watching it live so I can vote for him! Excellent song choice like last week, and he really does know who he is musically.

Katelyn - she was ok. Just ok.

Mitch - I thought it was good! He doesn't seem that exciting to me, but he sings very well.

Katherine - really, really like her, she seems far beyond her years. I thought she was really good.

Omar - definitely like him, I thought he was great! Good song choice, excellent control.

Earl - I liked him, I thought the song was a good choice for him. I agree with Sass that he has a lot of soul.

Oliver - Loved it!!! He has a great tone to his voice. I think his talent is much more natural than his brothers. And I'm so glad that he stood still during this performance (I don't think I can take any more gyrations from him).

Favourites - Theo, Omar, Oliver
Going Home - Jesse and Katelyn

I missed Monday's show, but seen most of Tuesdays.

I think most of them did well on Tuesday, especially Omar Lunan, Oliver Pigott (much better than last week), and Theo Tams.

Lexie - it's funny how we have different opinions of some of the contestants (like Paul).

Two more ladies gone. I'm disappointed to see them both go.

I am not surprised about Paul, and I called Jesse correctly.

It's so true! I was thinking that while reading over the thread when writing my posts.

Totally comes down to style. I think Paul (for example) can sing, but I'm not going to buy his album, and if his song came on the radio I'd probably switch stations. But that's just because it's my musical taste.

I'm sad to see Lisa and Jessica go. It is strange that the girls are all going now. I would have preferred someone like Katelyn go. But I definitely think it will be a very good top 10 this year.

Kevin suggested that a lot of girls watch the show, and they'll be voting for the guys more than the girls, hence the girls get knocked off. But if that were true, why have women gone far in past seasons?

I would guess that more girls watch the show than guys too. While a lot of girls probably vote for who is cute (and can sing), there are some that also like to listen to female singers. Either way, I think people who are more attractive have an advantage, when the public votes.

I wish there was a way to know the demographics of the voters. I always think it's probably young girls voting, so I think they would vote for good looking and good sounding guys. But then, Eva Avila and that other girl won (wow I'm drawing a blank on her name.)

But I always wonder if maybe song selection makes a difference. If it is mostly younger people voting, maybe people who choose older songs or more obscure songs have that working against them.

(Although, Jessica Sheppard sang Umbrella and still managed to get kicked off so I could be completely wrong!)

And Jaydee Bixby sang a lot of old songs and made it to #2 last season.

Martin - The band and background singers seemed too loud when they kicked it up. It was hard to pick out his voice. He's a good singer but not as much of an entertainer as a lot of the others. (As I'm typing this out, Jake is saying almost the same thing.) I can't see going to a concert with him as the star - there's not much excitement there.

Theo - is this the first time in the top 24 that he's not been at the piano? I like him a lot. He's a contender.

Amberly - Her hair annoyed me this time and it looked like it annoyed her, too. LOL! I didn't enjoy it as much as her other performances, but I still like her. Sounds like Zack and Jake agree wtih me.

Adam - I like him, but I don't think he'll win the whole thing. Hopefully he'll be around next week.

Marie Pierre - Great song choice that really showcased her rocky voice. Too bad her voice cracked a couple times.

Omar - The low parts seemed too low for him. It seemed like he was pitchy throughout the song. I didn't like it. However, he definitely felt it and sold it.

Mark - Good voice, not the best performance, but not enough of an entertainer for me. It was so... Vegas lounge. Maybe that's because of the song itself.

Mookie - Interesting footwork! He's so much fun. I liked it!

So three are supposed to go home from this group? If it were up to me, I'd say the three I don't see winning (and thus can go home) would be Mark, Martin... and I don't know the third! I suppose Adam.

My votes go to Theo, Marie Pierre, and Mookie.

My husband and I agree that tonight's performances were much better than last night's, and it's a shame that an even number have to be eliminated from each show.

Mitch - I like him, but once again, not sure if he's got real star power and entertainment value.

Gary - Man, he was growly, seemed like more than usual. I didn't like that. But he's got good stage presence.

Katelyn - We see the more rocky side of her tonight! I liked it. She changed my opinion of her with it.

Oliver - Good job. He's definitely moving on.

Sebastian - Harmonica! LOL!!! I found myself smiling before that, but that was cool! Only problem is that with the harmonica solo, there wasn't much singing. I hope he makes top 10.

Earl - He gets such acclaim from the judges, but I just don't get him. He sings to the floor, moves around in illogical ways, has his eyes closed most of the time... He's great at singing to himself, but to an audience? Ehhh.

Katherine - She's so good!

Drew - I like him a lot but can't see him winning.

I think these people will go home - Mitch, (I wish not) Drew... and I wish Earl or Gary.

My votes - Oliver, Sebastian, Katherine

I haven't watched tonight's (Tuesday's) episode yet, the pvr records it at 11pm. So I'll give my reviews tomorrow after I watch it!

Monday's show

Martin - I have to agree that he is a good singer but not a performer. And I didn't like his comment about "not showing off." He came across as rude, and frankly, if you want to be a singer, then you should be showing off the fact that you have talent.

Theo - can we just give him the crown now? No? Oh well, it means I get to hear him sing week after week and I can definitely live with that. Still my favourite.

Amberly - I can see a Theo/Amberly final, but I didn't like her this week. Not much too it, I didn't feel like she was enjoying it. Still love the sound of her voice though.

Adam - he started out as one of my favourites, and for the last two weeks I haven't been impressed at all. Didn't like the creepy way he was looking at Ben when he was giving the number to vote for him.

Omar - he is way too talented to sing like he did this week. Not that memorable and just didn't show off his talent. He should stick around though.

Mark - needs to stop singing the big female voice songs (ie. Celine, Mariah.) I liked him better when he was lying to me about being in love with a girl. He reminds me of 12 year olds with big voices whose stage mom's make them sing Whitney Houston songs on television shows like Star Search.

Mookie - so cute! I love him, great voice, hilarious moves.

Is it that three are going home to make the top twelve? Why must they confuse me with math?

My top three - Theo, Amberly, Mookie
My going home three - Martin, Mark, and Marie-Pierre (or Adam)

Marie-Pierre - I'm not surprised she picked this song considering the comments previously about her showing off the raspy side of her voice. It is too bad that her voice cracked quite a few times, because it ruined it for me.

Mark's song was from Phil Collins.

And 3 are going home so it'll be a top 10.

I didn't take my computer downstairs with me, so let me see if I got this right from memory (fortunately I have the previous posts to refer to):

Staying:
Mark
Theo
Amberly
Adam
Mookie
Mitch
Sebastian
Earl
Katherine
Drew

Going home:
Martin
Omar
Marie Pierre
Gary
Katelyn
Oliver

I don't think Mark deserves to be there. Other than that, I can live with the results. (I suppose I can live with them either way, LOL!)

It's sad to see Oliver go, and I feel bad that Omar isn't moving on, but there are only so many slots. I was surprised that Sebastian got in and Oliver didn't, but (and I like Sebastian, so I'm not bashing him) Sebastian is more of a showman, and his good looks may have gotten him more of the tween girls' vote.

I agree, and said the same thing to my kids. It didn't quite seem fair. I thought Oliver should have stayed instead of one of the others.

Unfortunately, Canadian Idol is not about fairness - nor is it about good singing. It is about finding a "Star".

One of my friend's daughters (who is booked almost on a weekly basis at various Toronto venues) attended a so-called audition. Upon being seen by a staff person she was told "you are not what we are looking for". She didn't get to sing. Too bad - she would have blown them away.

Why didn't she get to sing? My guess is it has to do with her body type. She's 5'11" and carries a few - but not a lot of extra pounds.

Tuesday Night

Mitch - he is good, but he just seems so plain.

Gary - I got excited when Ben said he was doing that song and then oh my, he ruined it completely. I thought he was bordering on death metal (gave me a flashback of that guy from the auditions.)

Katelyn - I really liked it. I love that song and I think she did a better job of it than the original.

Oliver - loved it this week. It was stripped down and beautiful.

Sebastien - too much harmonica solo and not enough singing. But I did somewhat like him this week.

Earl - bad dancing, but a good soul singer.

Katherine - love her and can't believe that she is 17 (neither could my 17 year old nephew)

Drew - I think he is good, but like Tricia, can't see him winning.

Three going home - Mitch, Gary, Drew
Three favourite - Oliver, Katherine, Katelyn

That's unfortunate. I actually know one of the producers rather well. I should mention that to them and ask them about it, because it's possible there was a problem with the staffer. Sure they are looking for a star, but I know that they wouldn't send someone home without singing first.

As for the results -

I'm disappointed that Omar went home, but like he said he's been around for a while and he's not going anywhere. This should probably give him and his group a bit more exposure and bring bigger things to them.

I'm also disappointed Oliver went home, but of course I'm a fan of him rather than his brother. Everyone else I'm ok with although I did like Katelyn.

Good grief Lexie! Why would I lie about such a thing? Why would you question the accuracy of what I am saying? It DID happen! They DID send someone home without singing. Good grief again. mumble...mumble...mumble...

Isn't this supposed to be the "Fun" section of Forums?

Sudden,

I didn't say that you lied about it. Reread my post, I never disgreed with what happened. What I was saying was, that maybe it's an issue with the staff person who told her she wasn't what they were looking for. From discussions that I have had with the producer regarding the show, that doesn't sound like their policy, so that is something I would mention to them so they know that they staff is treating auditioners that way. I know the way the company that runs the show runs their business, and that is not how they would do things.

This is the fun section of the forums. There is no need to get your back up, what I was saying was actually meant to encourage the person you know, that this doesn't sound like a policy of the show, and rather one person involved with it.

Argh! Our hard drive recorder crashed, so it didn't record tonight's show! I guess I'll have to catch the performances online on Wednesday (we're not going to be around at all tomorrow).

Oh Tricia! I just deleted the show, otherwise I would have invited you over to watch it!!!

Ok, lets see if I can remember because I usually follow along from your posts. I'm not familiar with David Bowie's music and hadn't heard any of the songs performed tonight unless they had been done by other artists.

(This isn't in order because I can't remember it now.)

Drew - interesting that he chose to play the drums. To me it was just ok, nothing exciting about it, but that's kind of been him from the start to me.

Mark - kind of creepy actually. A little too amateurish for top 10 to me. But his voice sounded good.

Amberly - the song was ok, but I still think her voice sounded beautiful.

Sebastien - I didn't notice what went wrong until the judges commented and I went back to watch it again. I thought he sounded good this week, and I liked him better than I have in the past.

Mookie - I thought he was great. The kid hasn't done anything wrong yet. And his mom is so cute!

Earl - I like the sound of his voice, and I like the soul stuff that he does. He sounded good tonight. But his dancing needs a little help!

Mitch - I really liked him tonight. I thought the song was good for him, his tone was good, and he made a good choice.

Theo - still my favourite, but for the first time I didn't like his song choice. That being said, he still sounded great, and I agree with the judges that he is in a league of his own. He sounds much more polished and professional than anyone else on the show (though some do come close.)

Katherine - she was really good. I like her, she seems so mature, she makes good choices and she sounds great.

Adam - I was worried he wasn't going to get off the bike in time to get to the microphone and start his song. It was a cute gimmick for the song. I thought he sang very well.

My bottom two would be Drew and Mark.
