I am thinking about going to Hawaii this summer. I have been to Oahu several times and to the Big Island once. I would like to see some of the other islands. What are some of the things one can do on the other islands such as Lanai, Molokai, Maui, and Kauai?

I will always prefer Oahu but my next favorite is the Fern Grotto on Kauai, it's unbelievable.

I have been to Maui.

You can drive around the entire island and see the coast. There are many interesting things along the drive like trees, red rocks, cows, water falls, etc.

Maui has some volcanos you can go see.

One place with a whole lot of shopping is Front Street in Lahaina.

The south end of the island has an aquarium.

Maui and Kauai have the best beaches. Kauai is lush. If you go there, try kayaking on the gentle Wailua River. You can also tour the area where Jurassic Park was filmed. If you go to Maui, try driving to Hana. The road is well known for being windy and narrow but it supposed to be great. I haven't been there myself yet. It's a secluded town and beautiful. If you want absolute peace with hardly any civilization then go to Molokai. There is barely anything there, especially since Molokai Ranch closed so you would go there just to experience the beach and isolation.

I've only been to Maui.

There is plenty to do there, a little of everything. The largest volcano on that island is Haleakala, and you can go up to the top of that Volcano and take a look at the cones in the crater, and it's pretty neato, albeit cold up there. Also, there's the "Road to Hana" which is a nice little road trip that you see a few interesting things on. I think Maui is nice because of have a little of everything. As the person before me said, the Road to Hana is very windy and narrow... it will take all day to do that trip, by the way... and it's best to pick up one of the CD guides that you can throw in the car's CD player and be entertained and educated by. Be sure you stop plenty and take it all the cool stops that the CD will tell you about.

If you are on Maui, I would most certainly also go out to the Molokini crater to snorkel. It is beautiful there, definately the coolest place I've ever snorkeled. On the way to and from the crater, usually there's a place to swim with sea turtles as well, and that was really neat! They have 4-wheeler tours that are pretty cool too, where you get to ride one of those all-terrain vehicles like a Rhino, and there's a few cool views on that. I know I'm leaving out a bunch of cool stuff, but I really liked Maui a bunch!

I've been to both Maui and Hawaii and I recommend both. Hawaii has an active volcano.

They are all Hawaii.

Yes, I was referring to Hawaii, "the Big Island", not the state. Sorry that was not clear.

Have visited Oahu and Maui -- Maui is great for the whale watching in February. We stayed in Kahului and then visited Lahaina where we went for the whale expedition. There is a lovely big banyon tree in Lahaina's park. My next trip will include the Big Island. This thread brings back memories of mai tais at the Royal Mai Tai Bar next to The Pink Palace (The Royal Hawaiian Hotel) on Waikiki Beach in the shadow of Diamond Head. What a place.
