If the Holy Spirit is in it, He would not cause us harm and, according to scripture, not cause us to do things out of our control.

I agree completely...

Yeah...you get the quality catchers if you tithe.

I've been a catcher. My mil once was in front of me and when she went down, she went staright down in a pile...I could not catch her. I apologised to her but she said, God would not let her get hurt.

I also know of a man who would look behind him to see if there was someone there to catch him. It semed...contrived.

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/7/2008 3:48:07 AM)

I guess that's the good thing about my denomination. I don't want to get into a big debate about it, I'm just saying we don't ever have to deal with this because we don't practice slain in spirt, or tongues, or dancing in worship, or any of that. Again, please let's not get into a debate about it, all I'm saying is that that wouldn't even come up in our church. Of course, that doesn't mean we are safe from ever having a lawsuit. People can do crazy things, and a lot of people sue these days for no good reason.

There are exceptions to everything. In this case you are the exception.

rcjames -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/7/2008 2:25:26 PM)

Well since "Being slain" is the presence of the Holy Spirit being allowed by the preson to overwhelm tham and they fall down.

Based on;

(1Co 14:32) And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

The guy would have no one to blame but himself.

Thanks

Maybe injured in the spirit is what he was, and not slain. why not, one sounds as ridiculous the other.[&:]

EXACTLY - besides the utter lack of Scriptural backing for what is seen in some church circles with "slain in the Spirit" type antics... if this were genuine moves of the Holy Spirit:

a) people wouldn't need catchers (lack of catchers in Scripture)

b) people wouldn't get hurt, bumped in the head, worried about falling on someone or hurting themselves

c) women having to be covered with cloths/sheets.. worried that they will expose certain body parts

And lack of self-control? That contradicts one of the fruits of the Spirit. Jesus never went through a conniption fit.

I just can't believe that this incident (and the resulting lawsuit) happened 25 miles from me and I haven't read anything about it in the papers or heard it reported on the news.

That's because it didn't involve any University of Tennessee athletes. Otherwise it would be on page one of the paper and the lead story on local news.[8|]

As a longtime Lutheran, I must admit, I've never witnessed anyone 'slain in the spirit' so I have a hard time picturing it. Old Ed Tidblom once got a charley-horse while singing the Psalms, but that's about as dangerous as our services got.

Your not missing a thing! I attended an AOG where almost every service consisted of trying to get people "slain" in the spirit. Now which spirit is another matter. Not knowing much about these matters or what Scripture had to say about it at the time, I went up to experience this phenomenon. The pastor laid his hands on me and tried to push me backwards. I resisted. The back and forth went on for about a minute. He gave up on me. I've never tried to experience being "slain" in the spirit again. I remember one woman being "slain" in the spirit just before the preacher's sermon. She fell in the aisle and lay there shaking for almost half of the sermon! Ah, the things that are attributed to "the spirit" in some circles.

And then there were the Wed. eve services where the congregation was binding evil spirits in our town and the neighboring towns as well. On the north side, on the south side, etc. The only problem was, we had to come back the following Wed. to bind the spirits all over again. Somehow they had gotten loose without the congregation's permission!

When I was a child.....now I've put away childish toys.

I whole-heartedly agree with you Jimbo. Since when has it become expedient to attribute characteristics of demon possession to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit makes no one loose control of themselves. That is a bunch of hog-wash, and I pray this man looses his case. It is all in God's hands...

This sounds like it may be appropriate for a class action suit.

The Holy Spirit would not allow any harm to come to us?

Think about that. Your life perfect? No problems? Nothing bad happens?

Maybe the Holy Spirit won't actively hust you but it sure can allow things to happen...and we can't always understand why.

There was an usher in my charismatic church who would always check to see if someone was there to catch him when he fell. Maybe this guy just forgot...to look?

That is not what was said. A genuine MOVE/MANIFESTATION of the Holy Spirit will not cause the believer experiencing said move to be hurt because the claim is that the move is a blessing, a breakthrough and the controller is God Himself.
