cow451 -> Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 4:24:19 PM)

A man was injured in a Knoxville, TN church when he fell after being filled with the spirit during a church service. A long-time member, the man claims the church was negligent because the parishoners that were assigned as "catchers" failed to do their duties. The injured man claims neck and back injuries. LINK

Does the church have an obligation to train catchers? Should he sue? Should he go to a healing service?

ta_mosquito -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 4:32:37 PM)

Since the Spirit is the one who supposedly slew him, he should sue God. [8|]

But I do like the answer about going to a healing service! [8D]

Well, he is in need of healing, apparently.

Train catchers LOL[:D]

That is too much[;)]

ta_mosquito -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 4:40:14 PM)

It does bring up an interesting point. (Well, in a slightly facetious way...)

Should churches that practice slaying in the Spirit have planned for such things in their buildings? Carpet over concrete is probably not the best surface to fall upon. Maybe they should've planned ahead and put gymnastics or wrestling type padding underneath the carpet. [sm=icon_smile_idea.gif]

Qtman -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 4:47:08 PM)

I know we are making light of this subject but it may not be funny. I have been in church services where the holy spirit has filled people and sometimes the people do things that to the rest of us seem strange. I have seen them faint, shout, run and react several other ways. Most churches that expect this do have people positioned behind someone just in case. I have not however, seen anyone get hurt because of the Holy Spirit. I do not believe it works that way.

But hey, McDonalds was sued because they had the nerve to serve hot coffee.

JimboFletch -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 5:06:57 PM)

If the Holy Spirit is in it, He would not cause us harm and, according to scripture, not cause us to do things out of our control.

ta_mosquito -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 5:26:54 PM)

I agree with you, Qtman. I don't mean to make light of it, but...

And did this guy read his Bible where it says how shameful it is for believers to sue each other?

Qtman -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 6:45:37 PM)

Probably not. We live in a world where it is to easy to sue someone. Large monetary settlements bring out the greed in people.

Shugs -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 6:54:49 PM)

WOW. just wow. This is one of those times when i want to say something but can't out it into words KNIM? How do you sue your own church?

Qtman -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 6:59:02 PM)

Find a lawyer.[:D] Some of them will do anything.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/5/2008 7:44:54 PM)

The guy probably had some hidden sin....

car2ner -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/6/2008 8:02:50 AM)

I was in a service where people were being "slain in the spirit" and they had catchers and clothes to cover the legs of women in skirts. I was beginning to think it had become an expected fad. I didn't see any great evidence of this leading to anything in their lives other than a temporary warm-fuzzy feeling.

Not to make this a debate about the move of the Holy Spirit. I just think that if it really is a move of God, it is not always comfortable and convenient. There are plenty of examples where God has moved and it was down-right uncomforable and difficult.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Man injured after being slain in the spirit (6/6/2008 8:30:57 AM)

That is funny and sad at the same time. You can train the best catchers, but what if they miss, what then?

I'm still having trouble finding if that's a spiritual gift. Maybe Catchers are listed with the Pushers.

Contrary to the legend, that particular McDonalds was heating the coffee well above the legal temperature and had been warned by the regulatory agency in Alabama. If you think it is funny, try pouring water heated to 190 degrees F on you. The woman (age 79) had third degree burns over six percent of her body. LINK

Now you know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

In case you didn't notice I live in Alabama. I am quite familiar with the story. And even so had the coffee not been hot that would have been another complaint.

ETA the suit was in California so what would Alabama have to do with it anyway.

Since you seem to want to take someone's post and try to make yourself look smart and the other dumb you may want to do enough research to get your facts straight.

Number one I did not say it was funny. It was a ridiculous law suit but I am sure being burned is not funny.

Number two there is no law on the books in Alabama that designates a temperature for coffee.

Number three there is no regulatory agency in the state that goes around making sure all coffee is served at that temperature. Most of those agencies have important functions to perform.

Number four the law suit was won not because the coffee was hot but because the lady was not warned it was hot. Duh! She just had a good lawyer and a jury that felt sorry for the fact she got burned.

So about the only thing in your post that is not a myth is it was an elder lady and she did get burned when she spilled the coffee in her lap.

The last post was way off topic. My apologies.

Thank you for pointing out that it was not Alabama, it was Albuquerque. I would not be surprised that Alabama has not restaurant inspections, but I believe it unlikely, LOL. Inspections include the temperature of foods stored and prepared along with sanitary conditions. If AL has no such laws I advise eating at home. [;)] The woman offered to settle for only her medical expenses, but McDonald's refused. Hence the suit. The award was appealed and reduced.

Is any negligence suit reasonable, IYO?

Back to the topic: I think the falling in the spirit suit is frivolous. He's been a member for many years and knew he was going to fall. Or, it would be the same as if he had simply fainted.
