I love California too! I'm an hour away from San Diego/LA/Big Bear (well, maybe two...). I love the beach, I love going up to the mountains to ski, I love going to the outlet malls to do some killer shopping, I love having everything right here at my fingertips. I love that Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Bass Lake/Sacramento/Santa Barbara/Palm Springs/San Diego is well within a days driving distance! I love the ocean and the smell of the salt air..... ahh... I love So. Cal. summers! It doesn't get too hot here. I will usually only run the air conditioner a few weeks out of the year - usually in August or September. Heater is on a few weeks usually in January. Rain isn't bad - I don't even own an umbrella!

I love California!

I forget who it was that mentioned the liberals and the politicians. I agree with their statement. However, it rains on the just and the unjust. We'll just consider the liberal politicians our rain.

I live in Sacramento, and I love it here :) While the politics and liberalism drive me crazy, you can't beat the produce and being central to the ocean and the mountains. I love being close to highway 49 and the historic gold rush area, Apple Hill and so many other wonderful places.

I also love that Sacramento doesn't seem like a big city, we still have the feel of a town. It's wonderful :)

That was beautiful Abiyah. I'm a Norte Californian who left there too. The state should be split in two from Monterey northward and the perfect name would be Eureka!

When our oldest daughter was stationed at the DLI In Monterey, we drove over there once a month. It was a great excuse to spend the day or a night there. I sure miss going now that she's not there anymore!

Although I was born there, I don't live there anymore, so I will answer, then come back in awhile to erase this post.

Far-northern California is my most favorite place in the world. I love the redwoods, the ocean, the air, the people. i even breathe differently when I am there -- it is like my lungs know to take in all the air they can hold. I especially love to breathe deeply while standing in a morning fog.

I love how it is so laid-back. I love the way 101 winds through the redwood, around the trees, respecting the trees. I love the light clouds that hang over the ocean. I love the cool temperatures all year around. i love the Victorians, the seafood, the little shops. I love eating in old lumberjack cafes.

There is nothing I dislike about Northern California. Indeed, they ought to change the name of Eureka, adding that exclamation mark.

I used to live in SoCal, now live in the central valley, but the best part of CA I've been to is the northern coast/redwoods, for all the reasons Abiyah states here! Couldn't have said it better.

We're here in central California primarily because this is where my wonderful DH is stationed. (He is active duty military.) Truthfully, the weather here is simply dreadful for my chronic/severe asthma ... we have the 2nd worse air quality in the nation (behind the Los Angeles basin.) I spend my summers gasping for breath and the foggy winters wheezing and coughing.

The city we live in has a diverse population of about 500,000, with high insurance rates due primarily to extremely high crime and poverty rates. Unfortunately, we've made the top 20 list nationwide for mortgage defaults, we're in the top 10 for teenage preganancies, and we're the 2nd worst county in America when it comes to how poorly we treat our pets/animals. And if people who lived here realized how high our per capita rate is for registered sex offenders, they'd never let their kids out of the house. To top things off, we're now facing severe water restrictions for local farmers due to environmentalism run amuck and a lingering drought -- which they expect to cause a domino effect on the local economy.

And, as of Tuesday, gay marriage has been legalized by the California Supreme Court.

So, frankly, I can't say that I love where we're living ... though I agree that many parts of the state are very beautiful and delightful to visit.

Harvie and I live in the same city in Central CA and she listed all of the pressing issues this city and state are facing better than I could! Its all very true and I would love to move someday! But God has called me to stay here for now and that is what I plan to do!

It's a great place but I sometimes envy those people who have "seasons".

We have seasons!

Fire -- Flood -- Earthquake -- Riot.

(*snicker*)

Actually, I've just about "HAD IT" with CA's politics. But I don't think I can dislodge my daughter/granddaughter.. so, we'll be here.

Ever coming this way again? Let me know if you do, and maybe we can meet again!

What do ya love about living in The Golden State?

I believe this is what the thread is supposed to be about. As you can see, many of us love it here.

Oh my goodness, you are right, I forgot about our different seasons. Did you hear they are going to have a state-wide earthquake drill at the end of the year? Go figure.

I agree with you about politics and the direction we are heading. Watching the local news is very discouraging, however, this is where we feel we are to be for now.
