I've never voted without showing id, and I've never thought my rights were infringed on to do so. I even live in a small town, and they still make everyone show their driver's license or state id.

BTW, I also don't balk when I cash a check or use my credit card, and someone wants to look at my id. I figure it's for my protection as well as anyone else's.

I got carded tonight buying a bottle of wine. And I am 52 years old. The store's new policy is to card everyone buying cigs, beer, or wine. Should I sue because my civil rights were violated?

Did you thank the clerk?

It's better than being asked if you qualify for the senior citizen discount isn't it? LOL

Yes tafkam, the reality is that there are those that don't feel it is necessary to have individuals show some id before being given a token of our freedom a/k/a a ballot. By allowing illegal aliens to vote, dead people to vote, criminals, and all of the sordid members of society that vote early and often, generally it allows for one party to get a bit of the edge over another. but SSSHHHHHH! The libs might hear this and think that we conservs. are demeaning the poor lower class.

Great post Freak! and yes I would love to be your VP running mate!

I'll bet you don't get carded when you go to vote. I've been here in NC for 12 1/2 years and have never been asked to show ID to vote. In NY, I used to have to show ID every time.

Civics lesson: If they treat everyone the same, there is no discrimination.

Say, who got to choose the colors? I associate Red with Leftist countries...

Why not Purple for GOP and Pink for Dems?

I am also sure it is probably more accessible to get fake ID's in NY than probably anywhere else in the country accept maybe L.A.

And your point is................?
I was just making an observation and remarking that here in NC they don't seem to be as careful about things like voting ID as they were up in "cow country" NY.

If I understand the incomplete thought above... then I submit to you that there is a large concentration of illegals and sordid types in the State/City of New York and in order to function may have to access the services of someone providing fake ID's... And not to forget that the governor of the great state of NY wanted to freely give out Drivers Licenses to all who request one.. IE Freely give and freely you shall receive... Latino votes.

Did giving out IDs in NY ever get passed? I remember Hillary hemming and hawing about it, then the glorious crime fighting governor got caught in the call-girl thing. I never did hear about the IDs getting through the state legislature.

No sordid types in NC? Duke lacrosse team would disagree.

Ah, obviously you must never have played lacrosse. Arguably not as manly as some other sports that are enjoyed in the south, such as driving a car in a circle and golf.

FYI for anyone who may be interested (and way off topic) - Lacrosse is derived from the American Indian game of bagataway, which was often played to the death!

Back to the topic. I have some questions for those who are against showing a picture ID to vote. Do you agree that this nation has had some issues with voter fraud in recent years, even if it was mere allegations? Do you want the voter fraud and voter fraud allegations to stop? If so, then why not support the photo ID to vote idea? Most of the proponants of the idea are okay with having a fund in place to help those who cannot afford one to be able to have one. With all of that, what is the major objection to something as simple as showing proof that you really are who you say you are?

The Supreme Court ruled a year or two back that people must positively identify themselves to police when asked, so why not positively identify yourself to the poll workers when you go to vote for our local, state, and national leaders? That is no less important than having to identify yourself to police.

In comparison, football (American) is considered a "non-contact" sport.

Is it because you live in a small town or area where people already know you? Or is that just the norm?

I live in a very small town, but I don't know any of the precinct workers. The same was true in NY, the town was much larger, though. I can't explain it. It would seem that it should be the other way around - NC being more careful than ultra liberal NY.
