In 1 Timothy 4, Paul is teaching on latter times. He explains that some will depart from the faith and, in verse 3, "forbid to marry." (A lot of what he's saying relates to Gnosticism.)

Here's my thought/question: How is this related, or is there even a relation, to the wide spread acceptance of homosexuality we're seeing exploding in the world these days?

With all the gay marriage talk and legislation going on, it appears to me, that some slick lawmakers (heck, maybe even the courts) will come up with the idea that we should just forget about marriage alltogether. Maybe we should just have "legal unions" and boys, girls, dogs and cats could all fall under that unbrella.

Just as the world is trying to do away with 'cash', in favor of other methods of payment, because it's just so bloody inconvenient, could the same be happening to marriage?

From the world's view, rather than define who can and cannot marry, wouldn't it be simplier to simply abolish the whole notion, alltogether?

What say ye???

Ya' know, I hadn't considered that idea before. Good thoughts!
I would say that, if this is the case, then we probably have a ways to go. While America may be edging in that direction, I'm pretty sure marriage is still held to in most places in the world. But, it's certainly possible that that could change. I think a big indicator will be if local churches start teaching that marriage shouldn't be practiced, since I think 1 Timothy 4 is speaking about the actions of so-called believers. But I think that, if that does happen, it will start in secular society. So, it's definitely something to keep an eye on!

I think the great apostacy talked about in many different passages of Scripture is the changing and even omission of God's laws by the Roman Catholic Papacy... I don't want to get into a lengthy chat at the moment, because I have to leave, but check out this link: www.worldslastchance.com. What about other denominations that do the same thing?
Also, heh, I tend to distrust any website that claims that "This next Pope!" will be the one, since people with a similar mindset as yours have been saying something very similar for the past few hundred years.

As far as the Papacy is concerned, I wonder what biblical doctrine they stand on that says that Rome is the center of the church. It says in the Torah (Old Testament) that only the Sons of Levi were allowed to minister before God's children. This is the ancient Roman Empire refusing to admit its defeat. Show me one scriptural reference that upholds the Roman Catholic's position of the Papacy? Then I will show you Replacement Theology.

As far as Peter being the rock the "church" is built on....Remember that Peter denied Jesus Christ three times, and Jesus reconciled Peter to himself. This is the basis of the church, in Peter's weakness he became strong through Jesus Christ. Remember that Jesus himself said, that if any man deny me before men, I will deny him before the Father, and yet Jesus reconciled Peter to himself.

How purer love can you get when you can reconcile a person to yourself when they have denied you three times?

Mr. Fribbles, and everyone else who read my remarks: I apoligize for using a source which I had not adequately investigated before passing along. Please disregard my statements. Mr. Fribbles, this is not my minset.... I saw that site, thought it was very convincing. While checking on their sources, I have come to the conclusion that their sources are very faulty and few in number, and largely based on one particular woman's writings. Also, any source that is truthful would not hesitate to put their names on it. No one knows who the creators of that site, and cannot therefore hold them accountable for false teaching. Please forgive me.

There's nothing to forgive. : ) 1, heh, we all sometimes use sources before we fully understand them, so it's an honest mistake. And 2, even if you did agree with the site (I know you don't, but I'm saying if, hypothetically), and I didn't, that's fine. The matter of the great apostasy is certainly up for much debate, and I am fully ready to admit that my position might be wrong. ...Especially since I still haven't reached a very definite position. ; )
