Welcome Em!
I'm Sandy.
My man has been gone for 6 months, he's coming home for his mid tour R&R soon, then we have 6 months left on our deployment!
The sanity...uh yeah. My sanity took a vacation last week...it's come to visit me occasionally, but has not decided to take up permanant residence again yet LOL
Last time my man was gone (8months for training) the biggest awkward area for us was intimacy (this was mostly my hang up). Things with the kids and our daily routine got back to normal rather quickly (excepting changes with the kids he had to learn about)...but when it came to just us. It was ... odd.
Don't get me wrong, I was glad to be intimate with him again. But there was a distinct awkwardness and shyness. We had to 'get used' to each other again. Didn't take long, thankfully.
Anyone else experience that? Or am I the only wierdo?
Sandy

I'm not a military wife, which you know...LOL. But Brian and I are experiencing something similar to this and much of what Sarah posted about not knowing what normal is anymore. Way different circumstances, but it sounds like similar stuff to work through for some reason.

btdt....but it has lasted a long time for us (and has not ever really ended)....but I don't want to really get into that here in the open forum.

I think I have already mentioned before that I have come to realize that our marital privilege habits are not the same as those of the guys he works with. I guess I am strange? The guys he works with... Uh... report far less intimacy than... anyway. I haven't been there- a long separation- but all the others have led to more Mmmm how to put it delicately? more intimacy? more desire? the thought of less scares me. Is it the woman that is "awkward/shy" or the man? The thought of pouncing like a wild animal is more along the lines of my thinking... *blushes* like how not to break him. someone tell me to shut up.

don't get me wrong Ezri...by the time leave is over, he'll be begging to go back to Iraq so he can sleep ...LOL
I guess what I'm saying is, although the desire is there...I did at the same time feel shy in front of him again. I got so used to being alone that it was difficult to get used to walking around nude in front of him again...that kind of thing.
And to be frank. Sex was desired, but still awkward at first. just plain awkward.
And Donna, I can see how it's similar for you and Brian. This has changed both of you, and in many ways it's like having to get to know each other intimately (as in emotionally and mentally, not just physically) all over again.

LOL...when mine came home on R&R I gave birth, so there was no getting around him "seeing" me....lol

yup..definitely. That kind of change physically changes you both emotionally and spiritually, and I esp notice when there is a spiritual change in one of us...it really affects our own physical relationship.

Hi Emily ... welcome to our little group! If there's anything we can do to support you, please let us know!

My name is Harvie and I'm married to my DH Ron ... he's full-time, active duty, in the California Air National Guard -- currently on his fifth deployment to Iraq.

Well... my wonderful DH is due home from his deployment in less than two weeks. Wooo hooo! As to the "intimacy" topic ... I do think that every situation and every couple is different. We've been married for 5.5 years, and we're both in our 40s (no children) .... and I do tend to "pounce" on my DH when he comes back from being deployed. I mean, not at the airport .... but at least when we get home!

I have a question...

I am thinking of adding my brother to my cell phone plan once he is out of basic training. Is it true that military people cannot have cell phones with camera? That is what my husband thinks. Almost all phones come with cameras now-a-days.

I don't know if it's true or not that they can't have a camera phone, but I got our phone without a camera purposely. We have Verizon. So they do exist.

Depending on where he is and what he is doing, my husband can't have ANY kind of cell phone with him. And camera phones have even MORE rules and restrictions. (So our personal cell phone doesn't have a camera) Different parts of the country/world have different/better coverage ... so I wouldn't rush to add him to your plan right away.

Harvie, I am excited for you!

Camera phones: I would repeat what was already said- it is a command thing too. some commands are more persnickety than others. My husband has never been part of a unit that prohibited camera phones. he is not taking a cell phone to Iraq with him though so no problems.

Every base has areas that you can not take pictures of or that they are wary of...so some base commanders might have that rule, however none of the bases we have ever been on were a general "no cameras" rule...not even in Germany. Some may though depending on the security level of the particular base. Iraq or training was a no-go for Paul's unit in Germany...however all the other units were allowed to have them for training, just not on all the time. (Kinda stupid if you ask me). They are not allowed on any base that we have ever been on to have them on while training...firing range...etc. At the motor pool for everyday working Paul is allowed to have it. They use them all the time for calling each other because using the DSN phones you can not call off base numbers, so they use their cell phones at the motor pool to contact others there.
Paul says there is however a camera thing that goes on a car door keychain (keyless entry) that is not allowed on this post.

LOL...in more ways then one...right!!!

Okay- it is confirmed that Jerry REALLY is going away. EVERY thing with an engine and tires has either been repaired at great cost OR replaced at equally great cost since JUNE! this includes riding lawn mowers and push mowers and all 3 cars.

Trills neon is in the shop. It is the last of the vehicles.
