I apologize if this has been posted before. One of my daughters friends asked me about allowing my daughter to have a Webkinz because it's something that they want to do together. I am looking at the sight but I don't know I don't see anything off the bat to give any reservations. However, they give you an adoption number for these animals it's actually quiet cute but i am leary because that reminded me about the Cabbage Patch kids and when my daughter had one she had nightmares. I had heard they had demonic spirits associated with them and although I don't know about that I do know that when we through that thing away that my daughter stopped having the nightmares. So I am wondering what you all think.

There is absolutely NOTHING demonic about the Webkinz.

Period.

My eldest dd has two, a frog and a reindeer.
My youngest ds has a turtle and is saving up for another one.
My youngest dd has a cute little Pug puppy.

The sight just has games and give the kids an opportuinty to interact with their friends that also have webkinz online. Now that part could be a little iffy. BUT my kids KNOW that only certain people will be accepted as buddies and they can block all others. ALSO the management of Webkinz is VERY strict about language used and are monitoring the site at all times for unaccepable behavior. AND they will block accounts of those that violate those rules. Also they are very strict about the sharing of personal information. They will not allow a child to share anything beyond their first name and maybe the state they live in. They will restrict accounts and even block users that violate those rules.

I watch my kids interact with their friends and cousins online and we've had absolutely no problems at all with the Webkinz.

Blessings,

Garsy

My only comment about Webkinz is that you might find yourself addicted to the games that they have on the site....I have no kids...do not generally go into the chat areas however I do play the games occasionally and have heard from other posters on other message boards that not only do their kids enjoy Webkinz but some of the moms find themselves playing the games albeit to help their kids gain enough Webkinz currency to furnish rooms/feed their Webkinz/add more rooms....just my thoughts.

My kids both have almost 20 Webkinz. My son had a Webkinz Birthday party last year. It was a blast. I think they might be starting to burn out on them, though. The site is great. Certainly nothing demonic. I've never heard that about Cabbage Patch Kids either but they really are ugly. I can understand those giving a kid nightmares!

What names?

Where?

From my experience with the Webkinz critters they are named only by the kids themselves.

My ds's turtle is named Dribble. He named it himself! Only my ds would name a turtle Dribble.

Blessings,

Garsy

I know where the Cabbage Patch thing came from - Bill Gothard - and it's rubbish. I don't have time to get into all of it now, but if you do a Google search on

Cabbage Patch "Bill Gothard"

and especially look at articles at PFO (Personal Freedom Outreach) and Midwest Christian Outreach, you will find the information about what Gothard and his organizations claimed.

Mine was named Marianne.

My little brothers play with Webkinz. They moved schools about two years ago and they are able to keep up with their old friends via online games like Webkinz and Club Penguin. I was actually surprised that it wasn't really expensive. I figured they'd charge 30 bucks for one of those toys, but they aren't much more than a regular stuffed animal and they come with a year (I think?) of online play.

I don't really think there is anything wrong with Webkinz. I would much rather see her reading her bible or doing something good for the kingdom of God but she is 10. I don't mind if she acts like a 10.

She just got her 50th webkinz this weekend.

There is definitely nothing wrong with Webkinz. My kids have two each and named them themselves. Its ridiculous how popular toys always get labeled "demonic or evil" by people.
The only con about them is that you have to limit the time they play because the games are so fun. Also, the kids take care of them like a real pet - feeding, entertaining, etc. I hear this often "Mom, I have to get on webkinz because my pet is hungry and will get sick if I don't feed him!" The tenderhearted mom in me usually falls for that since I don't want to be the reason that their pet died!

There is a Christian version available at some Christian stores- not sure of the name though- perhaps someone else will know. A friend of mine prefers those because they do not expire after a year like the Webkinz do...

My little brother spent a month in the hospital last fall and webkinz were the only thing that kept him (and my mom!) sane. They sold them in the gift shop and he got a couple of them from friends. He was able to play with his webkinz and once his friends got home from school, he could "talk" to them and "play" with his friends, too

I'd love to know what the Christian version is!!! Does anyone know? My kids also have a couple E-pets and Shining Stars. Shining Stars are the cutest, IMO. But Webkinz have the best website, I think.

Walgreens is carrying Webkinz now and they have special gifts that you get for buying there. They have two tags on each one to enter the code.

We went on a school field trip that had a gift shop and that gift shop had some fake Webkinz. They were star something I think.

She has 50 and I have 7, I don't know how many I have bought for other kids. We are webkinz crazy.

I like that she plays with them. She is growing up so fast I love that she has something little girlish to play with.
