I found a converter online, and in Edmonton here, the current price is $4.88 USD per gallon.

I paid $4.12 yesterday. Didn't have a choice. I needed to get some or I would not have made it home.

I've been hearing conflicting stories about what the price per gallon is supposed to reach sometime next year. Some are saying it should stay within the $4-5 range and then other news says it will get as high as $7-8. Anyone else hear anything? If so, what price are you expecting to be seeing?

some people are convinced its an election year conspiracy it may go down some, but common sense tells you if former third world countries can now afford to buy cars and an suv is a status symbol in china, well theres only so much oil in the ground.

We do need to find alternative sources of fuel, and quickly. There are many reasons to cut back on our dependence on fossil fuel, and no good ones to keep using it (at least non that I have seen). Didn't mean to change the topic--so I'll just ay "other." I do not get to set the prices I pay for gas. The only thing I can control is how much of it I use at the price I pay. I am lucky, though--I do not need to drive much. Others must.

This is a bit late. I heard on NPR that the cities with public transportation can only handle about 25% of the population at the peak times. I don't think we have economical enough infrastructure to deal with this.

Well, if it is a question of what I want I would say 50cents/gallon. But that is not reality. In earlier days . The US economy is fueled by oil. With a democratic congress that wants to mirror Europe in many ways, we are half way there because they pay $8-$9/gal. Most of them are socialists countries and they have the "best" system of government we are trying to become. And with even higher unemployment rate than the US, we are striving to be like them by curtailing business, nationalizing everything and electing a congress and administration that will bring us to the promised land. I can't say that I am surprised but how much would gas have to be before you are forced to stop driving your car? I think there is a limit as to how much one could pay. Would you just keep on making sacrifices so you can keep driving? As for me I don't know the answer to that. I drive a company car which pays for the gas. I don't know how long that is going to last because some of my co-workers had to give up their cars. At this point I will have to wait and see.......

SUV's are not a status symbol. I can also say that buying a small compact car or a hybrid car is a status symbol, but I won't. Oh, I just did. [;)] China and India are emerging economically. I do not think that SUV's are the only thing that will drive up their demand for oil. SUV's will just be a very, very, very, very, very small fraction of a fraction of it.
