I'm glad you are feeling better Cassandra.

I planted a couple of blackberry plants this evening. They'd been doing great in my cool shady garage. I put them out a day or two ago to get acclimated. I know, they should have been outside all along. They were a little wilty this evening so hopefully they do OK. I figured if I waited to plant them it'd be even hotter, which would be bad.

Congratulations on your daughter's win, Dee! We used to have a local Christian radio station that gave away stuff like that . . I won a couple of things and was so thrilled. Won a great CD way back when [:)]

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. I'm off to the gym . . a little late, but I think I'll call Garrett's daddy and tell them to just drop him off there cuz I found out just last week that they've fixed up a play/tv room for the kiddies, so I'm going to try that with him. If it means I won't have to get out quite so early to go to gym, it will work well, I think.

Sun is shining, but it's a cool 65 degrees -- almost wish it would stay like this all day -- Nice!! . . . think I'll have to water flowers today since the rain seems to have passed us by this time.

Bubbles5 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 8:51:06 AM)

Good Morning Everyone [sm=wave.gif]
Yes, we have a cool 65 degree's outside also. Suppose to get 82 degree's today. I can deal with that [:D]
Have to put a second coat of paint on the swingset today. Missed some spots last week anyways. So I'm in my "painting clothes" Good thing I don't have anyplace to go.

Cody and his friend decided to go fishing last night. They took their nets and poles and went up the road from us. They were fishing right in the middle of the road. It's closed down, and flooded over. They were pulling out carp and bullheads all night. The net would be full when they pulled it up! All them poor fish are comeing from the creek, going through the farm field, and wondering where they are!! I should have taken pictures. Some one told us the water was chest high yesterday..it's only knee deep now. And we are suppose to get rain again tomorrow. About an inch, or more, of the wet stuff is suppose to fall.
Watching the news you get to see all the flooded basements, and the lake that washed away. Yup..you heard me right! A man made lake from the 1920's washed away, and took three big houses with it. All the water and stuff went into the Wisconsin river. That area is located north from me. It's a two hour drive for me. A big summer attraction town.
My son is gonna move all his basement stuff in a storage shed, and has to compleatly gut his basement out. Start from scratch. He lost some funiture down there, has to throw it out, as it got all wet. But he did'ent loose to much. Only had 2"-3" down there.
My husband was pushing out a cattail this morning. They come down and get hung up on out pier or boat. Because the water is over the bank he slipped and fell into the lake! He was all ready for work. Had to get undressed out on the deck, and I had to bring him a new set of dry work clothes. He does'ent have another pair of work shoes, so he had to wear his tennie shoes to work. It was rather funny..but I did'ent dare laugh [;)]

I saw this on the news and wondered how close it was to you guys or Sharon. They showed some footage of the river literally pushing the lake water in front of it. We had a t-storm watch up last night but didn't get a drop of rain. About an hour north of us got clobbered, and so did most of NYC. Yesterday it was 86 with 65% humidity when I left for work at 7:15 in the morning. Today it was 71 with slightly lower humidity. The weather has been really bizarre this year.

thisistheday -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 11:11:16 AM)

I hope the faucet gets turned off for y'all Barb. The fishing sounds like great fun for the boys!

Thanks Leah! Hubby and I won a dinner for 2 from the station recently too because they pulled our anniversary! It's 40 miles from here, but where my folks live, so that works out OK.

Dee

leah777 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 11:13:18 AM)

Wow, Barb!! I saw that lake this morning, as well as one of the houses being washed down the river . . . . they interviewed one of the families -- it was terrible!! We had a t-storm watch for the last 2 days, but we gone hardly anything. Of course, we've had our share in the last few weeks. In fact, I'm sure I could have walked out in our back yard last week and picked up some fish out of the 'river' that was running through our yard -- we've actually done that before [:D]

Bill, finally a global warming theory I can understand -- and believe!!! [:D]

I've been to the gym, picked up Garrett, delivered some clothes to a customer & picked up some more from her, then to the grocery store where Garrett decided he'd rather PUSH the cart than ride in it [:D][:D][:D] . . . I know, I'm setting up some very bad habits -- but they're FUN habits! [sm=angelhalo.gif][sm=angelhalo.gif] . . . . anyway, now I'm needing a shower, but guess I'll wait for his naptime.

Yep, I do [:D] . . . already had to share that one with my girlfriend -- she enjoyed it too! [sm=biggrin.gif]

Garrett & I went out to water the flowers . . had to fill the bird bath, too. Have you ever known a little boy who could resist playing in the bird bath?? He never knew it was there . . until today. Oh Boy. What fun we had! [sm=funny.gif][sm=dance.gif][sm=funny.gif] . . . I had to run back in and grab the camera [:D]

Then, I had the hose on (sprayer) watering my plants, and he decided he wanted to walk into that and let it spray his face -- Man that kid loves the water!! That water is ice cold coming out of our 200+ foot deep well, but it didn't faze him a bit!

Well, we had to come in, strip off, take a warm bath, and put on clean clothes. Actually, was just going to rinse him off as he'd fallen on his knees & got grass & sunflower seed hulls all over them, but he had other ideas. He planted his bottom onto the bottom of the tub and wasn't gonna move until he'd had some more play time. Such joy this child has been to me -- and such a joyful child! I've not had this much fun since my grandkids were this age :D (not that they aren't fun now, but it's a different kind of fun . . Garrett just delights in new things, and it's such a pleasure to watch him)

Now 'waterboy' is down for a nap, tho not yet asleep. He was yawning all morning, so figure he's due for a good one. As soon as he goes to sleep, I need to get to sewing again.

I got another whole outfit from a customer this morning to basically remake . . . need to take the sleeves out of the top, cut it down to size, then replace the sleeves, after they are cut to size, then take the waistband off the skirt, cut off 5 inches of the length of it (can't take it off at teh bottom cuz it's border print), and replace the waistband. I already have a very expensive silk, lined jacket that I have the sleeves out of and have to cut down to fit her. Was supposed to take it in this morning, but forgot it. Owell, I'll get this top apart then take them both at once.

Also got a call yesterday from someone wanting their husbands pants taken in at the waist and hemmed. Then she said they were really too big in the legs, could I take some out of the legs too? I told her that would be quite expensive (at least $40), so she opted for the back waist and hemming. Today she called back saying they'd decided they wanted to do the legs too. That is basically going to require remaking the pants, just about. [:o] . . . Owell, it's work, and it's good experience. I guess [8D]

I'm going to post the photos of Garrett in my photo album . . I'll link to it once I get them done.

leah777 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 2:16:01 PM)

Here are the photos . . . I'm not real familiar with this yet, so we'll see. Let me know if you can view them.

magdaleine -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 4:14:04 PM)

Garrett has got to be the sweetest little guy your side of the border.

I'm sitting at The Forks at a coffee shop and some people dressed in costume came in. Some in soft deerskin dresses and others in the typical Voyageur costumes. So I asked one of them what the event is. They're a group of people that are re-enacting a long canoe trip (with six large canoes--see link below) from the west end of Lake Superior to the Rocky Mountains, and they've stopped here at The Forks Harbour. So cool.

Forgot to say, I LOVE the photos of Garrett and the birdbath and sprinkler!

thisistheday -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 4:19:35 PM)

Leah, I can see the first page of your album, with cute little Garrett playing in the bird bath. I can't see the rest though since I don't have a snapfish account.

Maggie, that is quite a canoe trip, they look like they are having fun!

Dee

leah777 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/11/2008 5:13:34 PM)

Glad you guys could see them. Dee, there's no charge for Snapfish, and it's a great place to store your photos, plus they ahve really great sales for printing. I used to send my rolls of film to Snapfish years ago [:D]

'Waterboy' never DID go to sleep! He played in bed for 1½ hours, then I finally laid down with him, and kept turning him over on his tummy, telling him to go to sleep, trying valiantly to resist his charming, wrinkled-nosed grins, but even when I held my book I was reading between my face and his, and when I could resist meeting his eyes as he'd peek under it, he would just turn and occupy himself with some other antics, effectively keeping himself (and me) awake [sm=shakinghead.gif] . . . I finally gave up and got up, but left him in bed until I had time to take my shower. I guess that water really woke him up for the day. Sheesh!

HI!!!!!!!!!

thisistheday -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 12:35:01 AM)

Hi Cassandra!

I'm up from the basement; we had tornado sirens here earlier. Thankfully everything here is fine. I just heard that the high school in the next town over got hit hard. The HS may have been the storm shelter so I hope there was nothing too serious. I heard emergency vehicles leave town about the time the storm would have hit there so I wonder if that's where they were going. Another larger town also apparently got hit by this same storm.

My 4 and 10 yo decided to sleep into the basement. I'm sure the storm coverage will lull them right to sleep....

Dee

magdaleine -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 3:08:37 AM)

I'm glad you're all okay, Dee. Hopefully anyone at the school is too.

I can't sleep.

Bubbles5 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 8:59:45 AM)

Good Thur. Morning Everyone [sm=wave.gif]

I'm thinking and praying for Maggie today. It is her surgery day right? No wonder she could'ent sleep last night.

Dee, glad everyone is safe!

Leah, how do I get in to veiw the album? Do I just put in my name ect.?
I have an account/ web page with shutterfly. Got all the grandkids pictures in there. But I'm not sure how to dirrect everyone in there.
If you have time today you can play around with it and see if you can veiw them.

Well more rain today. We will get an inch or more. I'm starting to worry alittle now. The lake bank is so close to spilling onto my front yard. My husband wants to take the pontoon boat out of the water. Said if it come's over the pier it would be a bad thing. I just wonder if we need it in the lake. In case our road floods over to high. Nobody could get back to the houses w/o a boat! I sure hope I don't have to use sandbags and leave my house. What would one take and leave? I don't even want to think about it. Flash Flood Watch is in effect this afternoon into tomorrow.
Sorry to go on and on about this folks..but like I said, I'm starting to worry [:o]

Bill, Lake Delton is about an hour and a half north of us. That's where the houses fell into the lake and the whole lake dissapeared into the Wisconsin River!

leah777 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 11:06:19 AM)

Good morning, Barb . . . I can understand why you would be concerned, living that close to a body of water. Your lake has been there quite a while, tho, hasn't it? I mean, wasn't the other lake fairly new? Anyway, it's a thought.

About the photos . . . if you want to see the slide show, I think you have to sign up for an account, which is completely free -- just need to put in your email address and a password, I'm thinking. I thought you could view the photos without signing up, but I'm not sure. I've gone to shutterfly and tried to view someone's photos before, but had no success. I'd have to have a link to find yours, tho. I would like to see them, so if you can put a link in here or email me a link, I'd enjoy checking them out.

Maggie is getting surgery done this morning -- probably as I'm writing this. It was scheduled for 9:30, I believe. Please be praying for her. She doesn't do well with heavy meds . . . a tendency toward allergies, bad reactions, etc. Plus, she was pretty stressed about going and some other things going on this week.

I thought I wasn't going to have Garrett this morning because he has a dr's appointment, but it seems it's not until this afternoon. So daddy called me this morning to see if I could possibly pick him up. I didn't mind. Got my hair cut while I was in town. Now I'm back home and enjoying my first cuppa coffee [&:] . . . don't know why I forgot to pour and drink my coffee this morning -- sheesh! [sm=shakinghead.gif] . . . didn't sleep well last night -- guess I'll blame it on that [sm=popsigh.gif]

Bubbles5 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 11:30:35 AM)

Leah,
guess I already have an account with snapfly. Just can't remember my password [sm=hammerhead.gif]
I'll se if Katie can make a link for me so everyone can see the grandkids

thisistheday -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 2:33:54 PM)

Thanks for the reminder about Maggie, Leah.

Barb, I saw the video footage of the lake on the weather channel. Very scary. I heard Wisconsin was getting more rain; I don't know where exactly, but I know that's not good. Praying. I'm hearing in places it's as bad or worse than in 93, but they have better levies now.

The next town over, about 10 miles, but a direct hit from a tornado last night. A shelter has been set up in our town. One person is dead, and about 75-80 percent of the houses (small town) are damaged or destroyed. That is a good reminder for me to take these storms seriously; I hate going to the basement and not seeing what is going on. The people there were talking about how fast it hit, and not having time to go to the basement.

Dee

uncabeeil -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 3:23:05 PM)

I'll take a hurricane or nor'easter over tornadoes any day. At least with those I get a few days warning!

Thanks, Barb! I'm off to look now [:)]

How's the weather doing??

leah777 -> RE: Weekly Chat Thread For June 9th-June 15th (6/12/2008 5:01:30 PM)

Wow -- great pics, Barb! You have some beautiful grandchildren! You also had some major tree damage -- was that from storms? . . . Kinda reminds me of our yard in Jan 2007 -- or was it Feb -- not sure now [&:]

Love the blankets, btw [:)]
