I really enjoy scrapbooking but I havent got to do a scrapbook in awhile lol

First scrapbook I did was for school we actually called them senior portfolios it counted for our final english exam but all year we worked on the papers...and such... I cover the inside of book with qutoes and then on each page I went with w.e. my creative mind could come up with...I even used sand and sea shells in one part of it lol

Hello,

My name is Garsy and I'm addicted to scrapbooking. [8D][:D]

I've been scrapbooking for going on 15 years now - maybe longer. It's hard to remember. I know I did some scrapbooking sorts of things as a kid and in highschool but I didn't start taking it seriously until roughly 15 years ago.

I have so many albums in many different stages of completeness.

16 family albums
2 albums a piece for each of my 4 children = 8
1 wedding album
and 6 special albums.

I also have a basket full of cards that I've made over the last few years, several altered items AND a tag book that I'm doing as part of a challenge on this website with my personal gallery being here I'm creating little 4 inch circle tags (thanks CM circle cutter) and creating scripture cards based on a weekly bible study prompt from this sweetheart of a lady that is a member of the site as well.

If you decide to start participating in the forums or whatever let me know so I can welcome you properly! [;)]

I used to scrapbook quite a bit away from home but when my local store closed - and the next closest one was in the mall 23 miles away, I was sort of forced to bring myself home.

My question for you all is this: RIGHT now, this very moment, what does your scrapbooking space look like? Mine is a MAJOR disaster! BIG TIME! Haven't had time to clean up after the last project yet!

My scrapbook "nook" as I call it, is clean at the moment. I haven't done anything in the last 2 weeks so it's clean for the moment. But when I get started again...oy. It's a mess!

My son is 6 months old and I have yet to print out any of his pictures. [:o] But, I love scrapbooking and really want to get started on one for him! I'm thinking I could turn a corner of his room into my "space" but I better hurry because once he starts walking that won't work anymore! [:)]

How do you ladies get prints, if you use a digital camera? Do you order online? Get all the same size? (4x6?) Print at home? Where's your fave, cheapest place to get prints from? [:)]

I find it's much cheaper to take my memory card into Walmart and have prints printed there rather than to do it at home. I tired that and it really added up fast with the ink and photo paper.

I send mine to Costco (via their internet site) and pick them up when I shop on Saturdays. I've found it's the cheapest and easiest around!

I do all my printing at home. Then I can have immediately what I need in the sizes I want and even change from color to black and white if I want to. I scrap on a whim most of the time so having that flexibility is important to me!

Ha Amber!

I have a 7 year old and I don't think I've scrapbooked in her personal album since she was 2! The rest of the kids are just as bad. My eldest just graduated from middle school 2 weeks ago and I haven't touched his stuff in a good 3 or more years!

I do this, too. Mostly because I've always had good experiences with their albums and have seen others struggle with other brands or get torn up with gentle use. I'm sure there are other good brands out there, I'm just too scared to try them. I own 18 and have given away two small ones (like 5x7 size that they had years ago and discontinued.)

I'm still doing film and I use Wolf. They are not cheap, but have the best quality in my area. I normally get all 4x6 and occasionally have one blown up. I'd like to change to digital, but have heard so many bad things that I'm overwhelmed trying to work out what would give me quality pix. Also, my camera is a pro model that dh gave me for my birthday a few years ago, and I feel bad about replacing my body with digital... and even worse about replacing the lenses an filters. I'm just not ready to make the move, but I have thought of getting a cheap point and shoot digital just for fun.

Garsy- how do you scan your scrapbook pages in? I've heard that I can scan both sides and morph them together, but I can't figure out how. I have arcsoft photo impressions 6, and the help isn't any. [;)] I love your pages!

I don't scan my pages! - I take actual digital photos of them and upload them to my computer, use my simple basic photoshop program to crop them if needed, then upload them to my gallery.

I have a scanner but I haven't figured out the whole stitching the halves together stuff!

she is getting old enough pretty soon that you can make her her own craft kit that she can get out and do whatever she wants with things in it while you scrapbook. neat and orderly!!!! Always!!!!! I converted a computer armoir into my scrapbooking armoir. So I can pull out the keyboard part and work on my stuff then push it back in and everything stays right there. I also had hubby add more shelves to the back part (where the monitor is meant to go) so that I have more places to store things. He also added some screws to the sides (and I want to next add some storage things to the doors) so that I can easily hang things on the insides of the cabinet. The best thing I ever did was do that!!!! I can close (and lock) the doors at any time and not worry about little fingers finding something they aren't supposed to have (like scissors or markers).

That's a good idea Sarah. Akeelah is really into stickers and painting now. The only problem with her is the attitude "wait, they're doing something different than me, it must be more fun, I must go touch it!"
Sigh......

I use digital photos and I get them done at Best Buy (though they've changed now, so I'm going to have to see if the price is still the same.) I tried Walmart once and I was not satisfied with the quality of the photos at all.

I usually send off the photos I want for the current album I'm working on, although I just got a coupon to print 100 photos for free, so then I'll have a lot of work to do!

ahha...see, that's when you utilize the high chair and strap them in with their stuff in front of them and your stuff OUT OF their reach!!!!

of course that only works for a short time - until they figure out the strap! [;)][;)]

Any tips on keeping your scrapbooking tools with your scrapbooking stuff instead of in other parts of the house? Mine seem to sprout legs and take walks around the house on a regular basis!

I have this and I love it! It stores scissors, pens, rulers, cropodile, and lots of other stuff. Beside it, I have a set of those plastic Sterlite drawers for tools that won't fit(paper trimmer, etc.) My tools never leave my scrapbook area or someone dies [:D]

Oh all my tools have their special homes - it's just that well like I said - they grow legs usually attatched to the cute little fingers of a creative 10 year old[;)]) and never seem to find their way back. I'm beginning to think that I need to find a very long ribbon or chain and chain the buggers to my desk!

Ohhhh, I see! I don't have any little ones at home anymore, so I can't help ya there! Short of making a set rule that she use the tools where they belong and not take them from the area. But it may not be a big enough deal to you to enforce a rule. My daughter uses my stuff, but she stays in my scrap room because of the lighting and work tables, so even if it doesn't get put back in it's proper place, tools stay in the room.

I would probably do the same as Karlie. If I could afford it and there was room to do so, I would probably also buy her some tools of her own and just share the expensive, specialized tools... with rules about sharing and putting back up.

mine magically stopped growing legs when I put my stuff in the computer armoir and put a lock on it.

ROFLOL....my mom used to do that with pens and scissors that she wanted to stay in certain places....like she would attach a pen to her clipboard with a string....or attach the scissors for the kitchen to a magnet...lol.


mostly though I have just found with my kids that if they are limited in where they can do crafts (at the kitchen table only, not in their rooms) then things generally stay where they are supposed to easier.

I do think the only reason she likes to use MY scrappy scissors is that she ALWAYS knows where those are, even tho there are several pairs in their craft cabinet, a pair or two in the kitchen (knife block and in the drawer), and there's a pair hanging ALWAYS from a ribbon in the laundry room. There are scissors EVERY where in this house and she still always comes first to MY scrappy space for mine. I'm going to put a magnet on the back of a pair and attach them to the fridge or back door. maybe that will help.

Say I feel like creating tonight so maybe I'll sit down and get something done in a little bit!

I'm now addicted to paper AND digital scrapbooking. I blame Chelsea for getting me hooked on the digital.
On paper, I'm working on putting together an album from when I was overseas (5 or so years ago). Granted, the storage totes for those have been sitting in our living room for a few months now. The cats like to sit on them and look out the window. My downfall is that we don't have a craft room or anywhere to set things out and leave them out.
In digital format, I'm working on getting caught up with my chronological album. I've just finished 3 pages from our trip to the Grand Canyon last year, and I'm debating if it needs a 4th page. I'm finding I really like the digital- no having to worry about putting things away, and I can use whatever photos I want without having to worry if I had them printed out or not. Plus, thus far its been free for me. All of the little bits and pieces I've used were downloaded for free, and I did the layouts in GIMP, which is free since its open source.

For setting eyelets you NEED a Click-It eyelet setter. They're wonderful- no pounding, and you can put an eyelet anywhere on the page. I watched and bought one on ebay for considerably less than the list price.

Wouldn't digital scrapbooking have a very one dimensional look and feel? You wouldn't get the actual layers and textures that you can in traditional scrapbooking can you?
