I'm very sorry, Cynthia. It was not intended to be rude, but as satire.
Up to that point, the discussion had been focused primarily on helping the girl, and suddenly it switched and centered on family choice.
It is simply that holding homeschoolers to a different standard is upsetting. Why should parents who choose public school be able to behave "more" badly before anyone considers "doing something?" Why are folks are a lot more likely to meddle in the affairs of parents who choose to homeschool? It is hypocritical and prejudicial against homeschoolers to think of calling the authorities on them when it would not cross anyone's mind to do the same to a public school family.
I think you showed a TON of wisdom by not calling CPS. Your instincts were right on.
The longer I live, the more I appreciate the Lord for putting Matthew 7:2 in the Gospels: "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."

I forgive you. I shouldn't respond when I'm tired, so I'm also sorry for my sharp reply.
What you are saying is what my point is. That parents who send their children to public school are also responsible for the education of their children, but when those kids are not doing well academically (due to lack of parental involvement), no one thinks to call CPS about it.

I think it has more to do with the education that the family environment.
Example: Take a child being passed into fifth grade that is barely being able to read, having 3-4 letter spelling words, unable to do long division, unable to do multi-digit multiplication without someone walking him through it, unable to read time, Never having much art, unable to read or write in cursive, poor printing, and unable to socialize well.
If said child is in the ps, people might be concerned, but no one is going to report the school or the parents for educational neglect. I doubt that anyone would even think of it.
If the child is hsed, people are going to be MUCH more likely to report the parents for educational neglect.

Yep, that is correct.
Parental involvement is a huge factor in student success, in the vast majority of cases. If the parents aren't involved when the child is at home, they wouldn't be any more involved if the child were in school. In fact, they would then be very likely release their responsiblity entirely and think it now belonged to the school.

Maybe not.
