Well Her Royal Highness and She who must be obeyed. O.K. I confess. All the information in my profile is false. That is not who I am and the photo in the avatar is not me. I could not use my real name because some other knucklehead already used it. And I need to tell that knucklehead THERE IS ONLY ONE ELVIS AND I AM HIM.

CoeurdeLeon_ -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/13/2008 8:18:46 PM)

Well, what I want to know is.......

......do these pants make me look arrogant?[8D]

I am fairly sure I dealt with one of those here. Fairly sure. Almost positive.

I have updated my personal info in order to be more honest and open about who I am.

and yes, I do wonder about members who keep their profile private, I'm not talking about leaving it blank but not allowing it to be viewed at all.

I always think that people who do this, have usually had their old posts dug up in a particular thread and what they said is in complete opposition to what they are now saying. It can be very embarrassing. [sm=icon_smile_blush.gif]

It recently happened to a particular poster I was interacting with. She had a visible profile and I quoted one of her previous posts...she obviously didn't like it, and the next day it was set to "KEEP OUT" er, I mean "PRIVATE."[sm=aside.gif]

My primary handle I keep public because I want other posters to know more about me, etc. My other handle which I use for more sensitive type posts I have private because I do not want people associating my posts as them thinking that I ask on edge questions thinking I am a troll or something instead.

lightshineon -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/17/2008 9:50:43 PM)

Well there needs to be known if someone is male or female. There are many posters, who do not give that information. I am female, always have been.

That's a good idea. I don't give much info other than marriage/kids info. While I don't mind sharing my own issues openly, I may ask for advice in situations that may include other folks and I try to honor their privacy. My name is Michelle if you'd like to know-but keep it a secret-k-? JK- LOL! [:D]

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/18/2008 12:55:11 AM)

I enjoy not knowing what gender people are at times, and I especially not knowing how old they are. I also like not knowing what people-group they are from. The not knowing keeps a lot of things on one level that can be skewed by certain knowledge.

I have not told in my profile what gender I am, whether or not I am married, how many children I have, yet a lot of people here know. And since I put my childhood photo here, many might assume that is me and think they know my people-group (although they would be wrong) and my gender (and they would be right). Most here also know I am a grandmother.

Some even know that I didn't give my correct birthdate, because I never do! Yes, I fear 1DENT1TY TH3FT! [:D]

Abiyah~ I think it can be very helpful when people specify info about them such as age, gender, marital status esp. since we here are helping each others.

Having some personal info can help us discern regarding certain issues about the case they are complaining about. It can give us a background about the poster and where they're coming from so that we would be better able to offer them a better advice in case of the absence of these valuable info.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/18/2008 8:00:53 PM)

Oh, I so agree! But when we are just here having fun, chatting, and joking around, it is more fun for me not to know the fine details. I delight in the knowledge that some of the great people here are so delightfully different from me, yet we can enjoy one another so much.

_CANCELLED_ -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/18/2008 10:00:18 PM)

Not sure why others do it but 1-I never thought anyone was that interested. I've done it many times in the past but it seems pointless. 2-People steal photos online and use them however they see fit. Not good. 3-I would never put my email address out there like that. That's just not safe as far as I'm concerned. People can PM you if they want to talk and if you come to trust each other from there and you still want to email, that may be a possibility.

lightshineon -> RE: Hiddenness and Arrogance (6/18/2008 10:59:14 PM)

Wes you never know these days.[:D] Been called sir alot lately. My husband would never go for a username of lightshineon, to girly.
