Does anyone know who Randy Crawford sings with, if anyone? I really enjoyed his singing with the Kingsmen/Carolina Boys. He was there just before the change over to Carolina Boys name. Any info would be appreciated..I really loved his voice.

when he left the group he went to become a worship leader at a church and got married to Karen Akemon. Haven't heard an update since then.

I might be wrong but didn't he sing with the Mystery men a couple of years ago. I think I saw them in Marion ILL two or three years ago. Don't know if Mystery men are still active.

As I drove for the Carolina Boys while Randy was there I answered each post so far individually.

Sorry SMSanta but he never sold insurance. He worked as a corporate salesman for Cintas for a couple of years, and then the last time I talked to him in Nashville, he was an outside sales rep for OfficeMax or Office Depot (I always get those two mixed up). I just called him and left a voice mail on his current status since it has been 2 months since I talked to him last. I will update when I hear from Randy..

Sorry but Randy became the worship leader in the Lexington, KY area after he left Brian Free and Assurance,
He married Karen after he went with the Kingsmen and after they became the Carolina Boys

Nope, sorry but he never did sing with Big Ed. Now while I drove for CB/Kingsmen, we did several concerts where Ed's group was also on the program. However Randy never sang for the Mystery Men.

BBKQFan, I still think Randy was probably the best lead since Squire was there, and I would even prefer his voice over Squire's on certain songs. Now NOBODY is in Hamill's league so he doesn't count in the comparison.

My favorite Randy Crawford songs were Justified from Good News, and Things looked different from the Cross from Ready . Randy is not on the final CD Cover but his voice is on all of Ready.

Thanks for all the help. You are right Capt'n smooth. He is in the top 2 on my list of Kingsmen lead singers!!!
It always bugged me that he isnt on the cover of "Ready". I havent looked at the liner notes on that CD in a while, but I dont think they even mention him being on the album.
I'd love to see him back in big time SG music.
In fact, I'd be thrilled if he replaced Phil Hughes with the Kingsmen. With Harold, Brian and Ray, I think his voice would fit in quite nicely.

It was really a shame that he was only on 3 Kingsmen/CB albums. It was 3 right? I can remember for sure, Honor the Heritage, Good News and of course Ready. There may have been a table/group only cd (which I hate, but that's for another thread) but I think that was it.

Well....unless I missed something I did not see the answer to the original question but simply that the answers given were not the correct answer. So did I miss something....

I think Captain Smooth already answered this, but I was there the night the Mystery Men sang. Randy was not part of the group.

You are soooooooo right. Randy did, and still does, (Kingsmen Reunion Concert in Chattanooga last year) have a great voice.

I heard that they were going to make a video of that, but didnt for some reason. That's a real shame. It would have been great. I absolutely love the 40th reunion videos. Both of them!!! Maybe they can do another reunion concert and cheat a bit and still call it 50th, and video it!!!!!
There have been quite a few guys come through that group since the 40th. The list of FORMER members since that reunion are:
Parker Jonathan
Chris Collins
Bryan Hutson (kind of confusing, cause he is a former and current member)
Jerry Martin
Randy Crawford
Tim Surrett (would be the only guy to be a former member at both reunions and have been with them prior to each I think!!!!)
**I believe Tim was with the group when they did the first video, but had been replaced by Bryan before "Back to the Beginning"**
Jeremy Peace
Tony Peace
Jason Selph
Randy Mathews
Andrew Ishee
Nicco Succi
Colby McKlatchee (sp?)
Rory Rigdon
Grant Barker
Randy Miller
Derrick Boyd

whew....I think that's everybody!!!
Let me know if I missed someone who has been through since the last reunion.

Don't want to get controversial in this thread but my info had Randy working for AFLAC when he came off the road. That is insurance, I believe. That will be all I have to say on the subject.

Well, at any rate, I appreciate the info. The point is that he isnt a touring SGM singer right now.
That's where my real interest was with the question. I would like to have been able to go hear him or get a groups CD with him on it.
Again, thanks to everyone who has helped and tried to help.

I believe the reason was that they were going to wait till Big Jim was well enough to be present. Unfortunately, that never happened.

Well, if you want to see the "Original" cover of the REady CD that had Randy Crawford on it before it was released and he was airbrushed out., go on my Myspace page, and check out my pictures in the "Kingsmen" album, i have that cover picture with Randy Crawford.

That is interesting. You are absolutely right. Jerry Martin was tenor when they went to the CBQ and Jeremy Peace was tenor when they switched back. Is Derrick Boyd still "officially" considered part of the Kingsmen alumni? I didnt know if they count that time as CBQ when they list members

<DJSFromCleveland> BTW nice cover picture. That is odd. Is it a standard policy for groups to do that when a guy leaves before te release? Even when he is on the album?

I dont know how royalties work in SGM. Does Randy Crawford get money from the sales of that album, or since his name appears nowhere on it, is he left out?
