Hey everyone, I just found out that our own Daniel Mount penned at least one song on the new Prophets recording! Is that exciting or what? Congrats, Daniel! Which song(s) did you write? ...and why in the world didn't you tell us before?

read the article on the new recording at www.southerngospelnews.com

We did discuss it earlier, on the Prophets thread. (But thank you anyhow! )

It's a song called "One Thing the Father Forgets." Actually, it was originally "One Thing God's Forgotten"; Paul Jackson re-wrote it to have a different feel, and there it is.

So it's co-written by yourself and Paul Jackson? Nice!

(Sorry, I was out of the loop on the Prophets thread) Either way, it deserves it's own headline.

Is the song anything like the old Kingsmen song "My God Forgets"?
If so, it'll be a hit.

By the way, I do have other songs. So once you've heard this, if you like it and you're a group looking for songs, drop me a PM or an email.

FYI, most of my songs / arrangements are with either male quartets or male trios in mind.

Thanks!

I might as well come out and talk about something I just haven't made a big deal out of since it's just not my style. I've been pretty serious about learning songwriting since spring 1999. I list the songs I've written in a spreadsheet; while I know I've missed a few along the way, most of the ones in my files are mentioned there. Currently I have 522 songs I've written listed.

For the first few years I was writing, I wrote pretty much one per week. But over time quantity gave way to quality (I hope!), and now I'm writing more along the lines of one per month.

Congratulations Daniel, that's pretty neat. I've had lines or concepts go through my head before that I think would make a good song, but I've never seriously thought about actually pursuing it. I'd imagine that it would be a neat feeling to see a song you wrote actually get recorded.

Songwriting is definitely a gift from God, so keep on using it Daniel! I tried writing a few over the years but I just don't have that gift, which is why nobody will ever see or hear the ones I've written. That's okay though. God gave me other gifts that I can use for Him!

Jeff and LRBB, that's where it all started for me, too. I've had thoughts and ideas running through my mind as long as I can remember. My first attempts at poetry were somewhere around age 6, I think. But in 1999, I decided it was worth the try to see if I could actually get the hang of turning these lyric and melodic ideas into songs.

It's not a gift I was born with or anything. It takes work. But it all starts with an idea--and if you have ideas, there is no reason you couldn't work with them until they became singable, too.

Do you write the music, or lyrics only?

I do write both.

Occasionally I've written just a lyric, or written a new melody to an old hymn, but usually both.

Thanks! Even if I become famous in SG (and that's a long shot), I doubt I'll become rich. It's usually one or the other. (<<Kerrlaw smiley)

No, probably not that. I got too busy (understand why? ) and pulled out of campaigning about a year ago.

FYI, I didn't put Tyler up to this. I had no clue he would do it and was as surprised as you were to see the thread. (Well, maybe not as surprised, since I knew I'd written the song, but surprised to see a thread about it.)

Explanations about the thread are not necessary Daniel. We are proud of the accomplishments of one of our own. Tyler just put it into words.

Bingo. My claim to fame is riding somebody else's coattails. hmmm....how about Press Secretary? Scott McClellan, anyone?

Good grief, I don't need a Scott McClellan any more than I need a Benedict Arnold!

But a Karl Rove wouldn't hurt. And (borrowing an analogy from the other side) a George Soros would be even better.

Without turning this thread political (for long ), ironically, there was a tape released of a few years ago when Scott was saying the exact same things that people are saying about him concerning someone else's White House book.

George Soros, huh? I better become a corporate malpractice attorney. ...or maybe sue Wal-Mart for products liability.

((JUST KIDDING))
