ORIGINAL: WesleyGlenn I thank everyone for their input, but I surely don't want this to turn into a "you're going to hell" thread. I've stated my position on this and gave the scripture that was given to me as confirmation of what the Lord told me to do. There is another that I will post for you all. Romans Chapter 6 verse 16 reads, "Do you know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves to obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" I'm not saying that you're sinning by listening to the secular music, but you are presenting youself to it. Therefore, worldly behaviors and patterns of thinking will show out in your life one way or another. It's not your born-again spirit that draws you to the secular music nor the Holy Spirit within you, but it's your flesh. Romans Chapter 13 verse 14 reads, "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill it's lusts." When you open yourself up to worldly things, you're making provision for the flesh. Some people claim that I take "being holy" way too serious, but shouldn't wwe take "being holy" serious because the Word says that God did not call us to uncleanness, but to holiness (1Thessalonians Chapter 4 v.8). We are supposed to be the salt and light of the earth. We are supposed to come out from among the shadows of the worldly and be vessels of honor set apart to God. Not saying that God cannot use you right now, because we all know that if he can make a donkey speak he surely can use anyone. But if you would put away all that was within your grasp of this world, He would do that much more through you. It's all up to you though, what you choose to do. In 1 Chronicles Chapter 29 verse 5 David asks the people, "Who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the Lord?" I stand here with my hand raised. There is also something else that I think I will go ahead and tell you all. Part of my testimony is that I had, at one point in my life, literally sold my soul to Satan for fame, fortune, and the lifestyle that comes along with it. I didn't ask for a spirit guide though, which is basically allowing yourself to be demon posessed. I had been given a gift by God, but I fell into the trap of using my gift for myself in an effort to get rich. I signed a contract in blood and all of that to make it in the music industry. I found out that a very large number of people in the industry has done this very thing. Why do you think you see so many of these artists blow up out of nowhere. Alot of them are blatant in expressing the fact as well. Some try to be more discreet and keep it hidden. It's rampant in the music industry, but of course they're not going to all try to make it known like Marylin Manson. The reason there is such of a pull behind the music is because of the witchcraft behind the music. In the background of some of the songs there are witches and warlocks performing demonic incantations. So while you're thinking that you're just listening to a "good" song, you really could be allowing a demon to be called up into your presence. Next thing you know, all kind of stuff is going on in your life. I'll give you an example. Have you ever heard the Biggie Smalls track "Who Shot Ya"? Have you ever heard just the instrumental? There is a chick in the background saying something that you cannot understand. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Big was on an XXL cover, if I remember the magazine correctly, wearing a jacket that had 666 on it plain as day. This stuff is real whether you want to believe it or not. It was a hard road for me to come up out of the bondage I subjected myself to by doing what I did. When the Lord began dealing with me, Satan himslef came and stood in the doorway of my bedroom. I had never been so scared in my life. He told me, out loud and as audible as me having a face to face convo with any of you, "I'm going to kill you when I get the chance." I can sill hear it. I'm not scared anymore though because I know who I am in Christ and that God's power is more than Satan can handle. It's not me who fights the battle, but God fights for me. THIS IS A TRUE STORY. God knows that I'm not lying. WesleyGlenn I suggest to keep it short go back in the thread archives and read the threads that have already debated this issue. No one (including me) has anything new to say on the subject. No demon better enter my presence because our Lord will help me kick its butt back to where he came from or as P.O.D. would say He would help me "Snuff the Punk" (which they depicted so aptly on the cover artwork of that album). And my story is similar to yours except it was one of 20-25 years ago. One thing that experience taught me was that He who is in me is truly greater that he who is in the world and that music only will have that power over me if I allow it. Well, I stopped allowing it 20 years ago.
