MWD -> RE: Recommended cheap webhosting? (6/30/2008 7:40:13 PM)

Webmail is excruciatingly slow, and it times out frequently, requiring frequent page reloads on the user's part. Doesn't matter whether you're using Horde or SquirrelMail. This is with secure sessions. Insecure sessions may be different (but I'd never use them). Pagemason is a mess. I haven't tried it with IE -- it may work with that. It doesn't work with Firefox, and that's the first test anything has to pass to get into my front door. WAIT -- I just tested it again with Firefox on a brand new Dell, same Firefox version I was using before, same XP (SP3), and one feature that wasn't working before now works. So, go figure . . . Some time ago I used PM to design a few pages but got some pretty serious screen corruption using Firefox and SeaMonkey. As I recall, you couldn't go in and edit your own code to dig out the problem, but on the other hand I was pretty turned off by that point so I didn't really investigate. That was as far as I needed to go with the exercise. Oh. Here's a screen from my logout attempt just now: Network Timeout The server at account.lunarpages.com is taking too long to respond. The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply. * Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later. * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection. * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing. * Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance. Typical of what I see every day with them. EVERY day. However, if all you're going to do is throw up a few hand-coded static pages, you'll probably be okay. I have static pages out there and they've always come up fine. Everyone's needs are different.
