When I was single and working full time, I made more pre-made meals and/or frozen dinners (such as Skillet Sensations) because I just didn't want to bother with cooking after working! Other times I just went through a drive-thru somewhere. It's no shame. And like you said yourself, you work full time. A lot of the posters here are stay-at-home wives/mothers. I stay at home - I have NO excuse to not cook from scratch (or thereabouts) - I don't even have kids! Don't feel guilty. Each family must do what works best for them.

I can second what Tricia said, when I was single and in university or working full time I also bought a lot of frozen meals (though I did try to make sure they were healthy). I had no clue how to cook Then I got married and became a stay at home wife and now stay at home mom. I had more time to learn to how to cook and I found that it was something I enjoyed. But let me tell you, we sure used to enjoy mashed potatoes in a box!!! As long as you are aware of nutritional content, and keeping your entire diet balanced, there is nothing wrong with eating prepared meals. Erin - have you ever tried taking some time on the weekend to make meals and freeze them for the week? You can make a big batch of ground meat and then use it in various meals throughout the week, fr example. Saves a lot of time and energy on weeknights, and you don't have to worry about that extra stuff that gets added to prepared meals.

For me most of my problem comes from poor planning on my part and i know it. I am going grocery shopping today and have some once a month cooking type recipes on my menu plan. I am trying hard to plan better, because my time is going to get less come say,,,mid October!

I am assuming the op means frozen dinners like lasagna etc. I do not buy pre made frozen dinners. We do buy frozen pizzas, tator tots, pizza rolls etc. for lunches. I do buy frozen chicken breasts when they are on sale and frozen raviolis but most everything else I make.

Erin, I didn't cook much before my oldest started eating food. You'll come around. You'll realize, "hey I really want the best for my kid, so I'll just make some food instead." That's what happened with me. Before that it was Hamburger Helper, TV dinners and fast food everynight. LOL!

Well, I'm not how to vote since we use frozen veggies quite a bit. I also do cooking ahead of time, freeze the meal, then heat and serve when I need it. Frozen pizza or mass-produced lasagna is rare. Sometimes I'll pick up some frozen pizza if there's a two for one sale. Oh wait, we do have ice cream sometimes, too. And I do like frozen pirogies as a side sometimes.

I suppose it depends on how you define "frozen foods." I order online these great high protein, high fiber, low carb, no-preservative multigrain bagels (6-10 bags at a time), and stick them in the freezer. Every morning I have one as part of my breakfast. So, technically, I am eating "frozen foods" every day. I also purchase sushi-grade, line-caught Indonesian yellowfin tuna filets and keep them in the freezer to make sashimi with .... is that what you mean by "frozen foods?" I also buy ostrich burger patties and keep them in the freezer. And edamame. So, I eat frozen foods all the time. What I don't buy or eat are frozen meals, frozen dinners, and frozen junk food.

ORIGINAL: SweetLittleErin Okay, I'm the odd ball here, we eat ALOT of frozen dinners (I'm feeling like a bad wifey now... ). I love to cook but dont have the energy too (I think I am lazy) most nights of the week. Alot of times I'll halfway cook, frozen chicken strips and prepared sides. But we have alot of frozen pizzas (well hubby does, I'll usually have something else) and hubby eats frozen burritos and taquitos and such everyday for lunches. We also do frozen entrees on occasion. So for us, its probably 2-3 times a week, some weeks more.... ETA....FWIW I work full time, I'd probably cook more if I were home. THough its not an excuse, other working wives/moms are able to cook. I think its just poor planning on my part. I was SOOO tired with my pregnancies! It is not laziness, it is your body forcing you to get enough rest! Well, I am the first to encourage people to eat healthier and avoid prepared foods, BUT do not give in to the lie above. Everyone does what they can and we all have areas where we are ahead and those where we fall behind. You give your children a loving home and all the rest will fall into place. I beat myself up quite a bit (thanks mom!) over that same line regarding a great variety of things over the years. Do not compare yourself to others just do what you can with the resources available to you under the circumstances you are in. Tara P

Well, I'd have to say several times a week. Even though I cook a meal each night, dh will "snack" until at least midnight. He likes to have frozen things in the freezer that he can just heat up and eat. For example, tonight we had burgers and home baked fries for dinner (at 6:30). Since then, he's had an ice cream bar, a bowl of fruit, chips and salsa and he just had a frozen burrito. It's only 10:20 now, so he'll likely eat more! He skips breakfast, eats lunch at work (if he eats at all), then has a whole day's worth of food from 6-12! It makes me have a stomach ache just thinking about it! I rarely buy frozen fruit/veggies - we have all fresh. We do have a bunch of popsicles in there now. So, regarding the original question, *I* rarely eat pre-packaged frozen foods, but dh eats them often (after eating a homemade dinner).

Well, I was talking about frozen food as a meal. Like frozen pancakes or frozen meals for dinner. Not vegetables or ice cream.

Once or Twice a month I will make a Amy's Organic something... but everything else is pretty much from scratch. I make extra of our dinners and freeze them for DH so he has homemade freezer meals. When I was working full time we ate TONS of crockpot meals since I could throw them in before work.

I usually have a few in the freezer. Hubby eats them more often than I do because sometimes he's just too impatient to wait on me to cook lol. I'd say in the past month he's maybe had two frozen meals (both were pizzas I think!). I, on the other hand, haven't had any. Unless you want to count my frozen fruits and vegetables in which case I eat some every day lol
