Has anyone heard how Cindy Kerr is doing today with the leg injury? I don't think Kerr has posted today to let us know if she had to go to the ER for more treatment.

I'm catching up in the thread.

Secret to perfect thick and juicy hamburgers (these were the size of Tony's burgers - 8 ounces):

Microwave the burgers until almost done and then put them on the grill for browning a few minutes before the guests arrive.

Mr. Cranky says THAT'S JUST WRONG!!! "There's got to be a law in Deuteronomy or somewhere that you aren't allowed to do that."

It's breaking the Dietary Law of the Grill!!!

(And I'm curious--did you really microwave them? Were they really good, or rubbery, or dried out?)

Kerrlaw,

I hope Mrs. K's leg is ok! Did SharMar share her calendula cream with Mrs. K?

I had to read up on it. Fascinating stuff! Not only does it help wounds heal, it also helps with upset stomachs, ulcers, menstrual cramps, and hemorrhoids! You've got to get this stuff, Kerrlaw!!!

I have a better secret to thick, juicy burgers. What I do is get the 93% (if I can) ground beef and let it soak in Worcestershire sauce for about ten minutes (it'd be better for 20 minutes if you have the time). When it comes time to form the burgers (and this is very important), don't do a lot to them. Pick up a handful of ground beef, form it into a hamburger patty with as little movement as you can, and set it aside. The meat is more tender (and retains it's juices better) that way. Since I found that secret, my dad has insisted that I make the burgers he cooks on the grill.

BTW, I'm serious about the calendula cream. I need to buy some for my medicine drawer. Sharon-Marie is a smart person.

I have never heard of it before. Where do you buy it at or do you have to order it?

Immediately after the 2nd injury, I made an executive decision that I have continued to observe all these years hence:
I no longer look for anything underneath car seats.

Good decision.

Microwave the burgers until almost done and then put them on the grill for browning a few minutes before the guests arrive.

But what if your goal is volumn and not juiciness? During Desert Storm, we had a 4th of July picnic on the flight deck of our LPD for 600 Marines and 400 Sailors. Our grill was a 55-gallon drum, which our Machinist Mates had sliced lengthwise and added legs and a homemade grate. We fired it up hot as could be, but there was no way to cook 2000 burgers in as short a period of time as we were allocated.

So, we cooked all the burgers ahead of time indoors, placed them in pans on the steam table, and "flash-grilled" them for about 5 seconds per side, just to get grill lines on them as our guys came through the line. They were pretty good burgers too!!

Hey, we fooled the Marines anyway. (Sorry, Jim, couldn't resist).

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

What cool siggy fodder!

Thanks, Cranky - for your kind words.

Ruth (and anyone else who's interested), you can find calendula cream (and/or oil) in any "nature" store . . . herb shops, health-food stores, etc., etc.

The brand I've been using for several years now is Wind River Herbs (which is also the company that manufactures the Arnica I use, along with some other homeopathic and/or natural rememdies) . . . I don't buy them direct from Wind River; although I'm very sure you can (I buy my from The Herb Store in Jackson, Wy). Wind River is an excellent brand, though and carries very high-quality products. I've been very impressed with them.

Y'all have a good day.

Sharon-Marie,

I found Wind River Herbs online, but couldn't find a retail site for The Herb Store.

Brenda, they don't have an online store . . . however, they will ship products if you'd like them to.
(You'd just have to know what products you want . . . I've been going there for about 6-7 years now, so I practically have some parts of the shop memorized. LOL)

Here's a Google link to them

And remember, you can always buy from Wind River Herbs, itself.

Yes. I was wondering which is better -- the oil or the cream -- the calendula?

I use them both. It depends on the purpose, I guess.

Well Mike, I just got home from my jury duty indoctrination. This circuit court handles both criminal and civil cases, so I will be in the jury pool for both on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Then I was chosen to be on the grand jury which sits on Mondays and Tuesdays. So much for looking for a job so I ccan go back to school.

Frog I don't know about the regular jury duty having not served but I think you will enjoy the Grand Jury. Those usually turn out to be very interesting and entertaining.

It's not that I don't want to serve; I really am looking forward to it. It's just bad timing. I was looking for a job so that I can go back to school because I found out that my retirement money is running out due to the economy and such. It wouldn't be so bad, but the jury duty is for two months.
