Jeeezzzz, I guess the important question was how many evil doers did they catch;, and did the crime rate and drug sales diminish during the blockade. I watched on a newscast the other day where something siniliar was going on and they made 42 felony drug arrest, and most of the residents were cheering the police on. Thanks RC

It's depressing that in the "War on Crime" (since we're at war with everything!!!) that the First Ten Amendments to our constitution (you know, those pesky Bill of Rights) get trampled in the rush to get the bad guy. How many law abiding citizens get questioned by police because the only probable cause is that they share the same apartment complex? Or has Gitmo been relocated? Hey but that makes me pro-criminal in conservatives eyes. [:D]Conservatives always reduce everything to an ad hominem attack. It makes it easier for them to comprehend and "discredit" those who don't adhere to their creed.

And as far as anyone knows, it could have been some lone nutjob making all of the calls every time. Why not go after the individual criminals instead of treating everyone who lived there like one? And if this is the way to stop crime, well then I suppose we better barricade every major city in America.

They just were limiting the number of entrances and exits so they can see who comes in and out. The police are likely well aware of who the lawbreakers are in the building. If anyone gets searched, they probably know up front that particular person may be trafficking drugs, etc. Again, since you decided to do selective quoting, I'd like to reiterate that no one seems to be complaining except the owner, who, if he had been screening the people he rented to, wouldn't be in this predicament....oh, him, and likely the criminals who live there, they probably don't like it one bit either. Cry me a river![:(] If I were living in a building with a criminal element, I'd be thrilled to death that the police were doing something to end the crime...being inconvenienced by blocked exits/entrances would be a small price to pay.

in high school and my first year in college i worked at a restaurant and would volunteer to clean the kitchen after hours to get more hours. One of the guys i worked with would often have to catch a cab home so i started giving him a ride. He lived in a housing project and every night for weeks i was questioned as i came and as i left and sometimes searched. I asked him how long they had been doing that and he said just about a month and that it had made a huge difference in the crime rate and that the residents now had faith that the police would actually help and they started to help the police where they used to just be tight lipped out of fear that there would be retribution once the cops left. I applaud the police in this effort, being proactive rather than reactive is the only way to effectively lower crime rates.

John How about we instead set up checkpoints where people are required to pay a $1 toll to cross through? Where people are required to surrender firearms to cross? Hey- if they can do an unconstitutional search, they'll soon be doing unconstitutional gun seizures.

Unfortunately, because of the new affirmative action/equal opportunity/equal everything else, landlords are often required to rent to anyone and everyone. This gets into the courts quite often. I'm not thrilled at police sobriety and drivers license checkpoints but if it helps keep drunks and illegal drivers off the roads, I'm all for them. The same would apply to checking out housing complexes. You know the more I think about this issue the more I may be coming to the other side on it. I am thinking that if I were one of the tenants in those apartments, and there really was a lot of crime going on, well first of all I would probably move but aside from that I really guess I don't think it would bother me for the police to do what they are doing. And if I was unable to move and had been dealing with the crime, I might even be out there cheering the cops on.

Police can have roadblocks. All they need for search is probable cause. A whiff of alcohol or pot does suffice.

If it puts the child molesters, drug dealers/meth makers, and those with an arsenal of unregistered guns out of commission...I'm all for it! It sure isn't working the way things are now!

They happen all the time. Of course that covers drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
