You're right: Scripture is inspired by God.

However, we are human, with human frailties, weaknesses and the propensity to sin.

Why do we sin? Because the great temptor is there at every corner ready to take advantage of our every weakness and lead us astray from God.

When one is saved they are cleansed and set free from the bondage of sin, if they so choose.

God makes a way for sin to be avoided;

(1Co 10:13) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

So since we as Christians can choose to escape and not sin, why does sin so stubbornly remain in one's life?

Because we either are not saved, or make the free will choice to be disobedient to God.

Jesus says;

(Luk 6:46) And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

So one should resist sin (Which Scripture says we can), or accept the notion that we may not be His, and are still serving the flesh.

Why does sin remain? Because unbelievers are under the control (dominion) of God's enemy (Satan) and Christians make the conscious choice NOT to submit completely to God's authority. Sin remains in a Christian's life because of a choice.

Why does sin remain in our lives? Maybe because we like it too much.

I once heard (or read) an illustration about sin being like a favorite pet that had died. The pet was buried, and we thought we'd never see it again. But once in a while, we miss it so much, we dig it up to hug it and pet it, only to realize how much it stinks, so we re-bury it, promising ourselves we will not be dig it up again.

Trouble is, as long as our fondness of that pet remains, we forget about the stench and the whole scenario replays.

We exist in conflict...the flesh against the spirit. When we were saved this conflict was created. Unsaved people serve their flesh. Saved people control their flesh through the Holy Spirit.

Conflict. We are NOT perfect and once in a while we let the flesh win. The flesh has some pretty powerful weapons.

Its kinda like this....quiting drinking and smoking is a lot easier than dieting because...you have to eat. You can't avoid eating like you can drinking and smoking. Your life depends on energy consumption.

Like the flesh and spirit battle some flesh coincerns must be met for survival. The key, like dieting, is knowing the difference between needs...and wants.

Our wants cause us to sin because we can easily fall to our wants, thinking them to be a need.

My people perish for a lack of knowledge. Knowing the difference between a want and need is key. Its....dieing to self. Putting Christ first. Being other centered. Our flesh battles against these ideas.

We cannot divorce ourselves from the flesh...we must control it and with the Holy Spirit this is...possible. Victory in Christ.

We just have to accept the victory.

I think that is a huge part of it. Most christians are simply going to church and trying to do it alone the rest of the week.

We are supposed to be sharing our lives with one another, carrying one another's burdens, striving to see one another complete in Christ, rebuking, admonishing, building up one another, spuring one another on toward love and good deeds, encouraging one another daily.

Encourage one another daily lest you be hardened by sin. Most christians are not walking alongside one another and encouraging/admonishing one another daily...so we are hardened by sin, just like the scripture says.

That is not the only reason of course...but that is a huge part of it imo.

I find it interesting even the most devoted continue to sin on occasion (well most of us anyway).

Many say that we have free will and we can choose to sin or not to, yet against our will (our desire to grow in Christ) we continue to fall short at times. Something is wrong with this picture.

It is not hard to figure out. A Christian can choose not to sin, but sometimes they choose to sin.

Now they may say they are wanting to serve God, but if they choose to serve the flesh; that is kinda telling as to what they want to serve.

At the point when a Christian sins they are not serving God, no matter what they may claim.

This is so true, SusieD. And at the core of this is our lack of TRUTHFULNESS. Men love darkness. Coming into the light exposes our evil, so most don't. And I would say that most who call themselves by the name of Christ live in the shadows. They aren't ready or willing to expose themselves to the light of Christ Who will expose their sin to them. They are not willing for Truth or truthfulness.

And if we are not truthful with ourselves or with God, how can we be truthful with our brothers and sisters? We can't be.

If we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. There is no true fellowship apart from being in the light---truthfulness about ourselves is the prerequisite for fellowship.

We have a pseudo fellowship. As the prophet Jeremiah says, we have superficially healed our wounds but because of our unwillingness to come to the light, to have full Son exposure, we are not and cannot be cleansed and enjoy the true fellowship.

I totally agree with URForgiven that as long as we are in the flesh, we will deal with sin. But if we come to the light, He will reveal our sin to us. We can repent of it and be cleansed. And we can have true fellowship. We won't have it with many. But we will have it with those who are willing to walk in truth.

No, because before we were reborn of the Spirit sin had dominion over us, as believers we can choose who to sin;

(Rom 6:14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

(Rom 6:15) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

(Rom 6:16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

The rebirth gives us the free will and the ability to serve God or not.

As long as we stick our head in the sand (remaining in darkness), you are correct. Then we can be delusional and think we are sinless. What we don't see doesn't exist.

But if we walk in the light, come to the Light, and allow Him to do His work in us, we will see sin that we never knew was sin before! You see, my puny mind and heart do not know all or see all. He has to reveal it to me. And it is sin. And, yes, I am accountable. So He shows me my sinful ways and I repent.

My head is not in the sand. I am coming to the light/Light and He shows me my sin. I think we do a great disservice to the truth of the gospel when we tell others we are sinless. They can see what we are denying. And they reject our Jesus because of it.

No, I'm going to believe the Truth and walk in truthfulness. And that means seeing and confessing and turning from my sin.

Sin is no accident. It is thought out!

You can't be born again and keep sinning. That is not the way salvation is designed. You choose to stop coupled with the power of the Holy Ghost... and I believe that HE is more powerful that the other guy. However, there seems to be many who do not think so.

Are you going to stand before God one day and say "the devil made me do it" or "it was all Eve's fault"? [8D]

sin is what our flesh produces "deeds of the flesh"

Gal 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
Gal 5:21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

That would be works, not sins. God has already judged our sins, and the verdict was death. God the Father has accepted His sinless Sons death on the cross as propitiation for our sins. The just for the unjust. To continue sinning, is to continue in unbelief, part of that unbelief is not accepting the completed work and sacrifice of Christ.

I guess you have a bigger view of man than I do, Walker. I am not smart enough to think out every way of sin. But as I grow closer and closer to the Lord, He reveals to me what sin is...things I never before knew or acknowledged as sin.

It might be a look. It might be an inward attitude. It might be words, thoughts or actions.

But His thoughts, His ways are so much higher than mine. I cannot begin to conceive of His Holiness! I am a puny human and my thinking and understanding is finite---apart from His revelation to me.

So as I am still before Him, saturating myself in the word and letting the Word have full sway in me, He shows me who I am and those things that are not pleasing to Him. That is what Love does.

He doesn't condemn me. He loves me enough to draw close to this sinner. And He is conforming me to His image.

And when I stand before Him, I will be dressed in the robe of righteousness He has given me. It has all been His work. For it is by His doing that I am in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!

RC…I really struggle with you’re statement.

Let’s say a Pastor, a strong man of God would have an affair with a woman in the Church, How do you view this event?

1: The Pastor was never saved?

2: The Pastor didn’t sin, that the transgression was over looked?

If we do not choose to sin then it is an accident and we only have so many times to have these sin "accidents" after first being saved because the Holy Spirit will teach us and continue to teach us throughout our lives what is right and wrong.

Sin is not an entity of its own even though many Christians like to treat it as such. However, it is similar to fire because it will spread, and it will burn. The cure for stubborn sin is immersion in the Holy Spirit. You cannot continuously fill your heart and mind with the things of the Lord and continue to live in sin.

Instead of asking why does sin so stubbornly remain in our lives we all should be asking how can I continue to get more and more of the Holy Ghost?

Yes, we are made of flesh and will always struggle with it to some degree but after awhile, we have a responsibility to move from the bottle to the meat and conquer the old man.
