Worst Movie Remakes of All Time

SteveSund -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/19/2008 3:11:30 PM)

Day of the Dead.

horsepill -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/19/2008 6:20:25 PM)

Yours, Mine and Ours. Though I'm quite a fan of Dennis Quaid, his film just didn't come close to the Henry Fonda & Lucille Ball classic.

As much as Hollywood and the filmmakers seem to relish remaking films, my worst fear is that someone will get it into their head to redo the original Star Wars trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). I pray Mr. Lucas will never allow that to happen.

Auben -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/20/2008 9:50:35 AM)

They already did...with CGI add-ons. [;)]

tafkam -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/20/2008 10:05:06 AM)

HALLOWEEN

uncabeeil -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/20/2008 11:02:13 AM)

Dino DeLaurentis' King Kong. At one point Jessica Lange calls Kong a "male chauvinist pig ape". Sad.

gambit -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/20/2008 11:09:31 AM)

Psycho.

MusicNut -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/20/2008 4:14:48 PM)

I know that this is a tv series into a movie but I'm braceing myself for the worst ever in Get Smart.

I just started loving the old tv series and I'm going to be sooooooo mad if they've messed it up.... (which I think they have)...

Don't you mean Cheaper by the Dozen 1 1/2?

I hate it when they make beloved TV shows into movies. The only one I would call a success was when they made Star Trek into Star Trek: The Motion Picture. But that was because it was the same actors as the TV show.

I love Get Smart (the TV show) too, and I don't plan to see the movie. It looks like it is full of sexual innuendo and stuff like that. I don't think anyone can be Max except Don Adams, and same goes for 99 only being Barbara Feldon.

I agree that movie stunk, there is another line in there that shows how bad it is, "Have you ever met someone who's life was saved by the movie __ ___"

BlackCapnHarlock -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/22/2008 8:01:04 AM)

Alexander

Those TNT Bible movies they did back in the 90s those stunk and were low budget with horrible dialogue and bad acting, and biblically inaccurate, just like the ones from the 50s and 60s.

LOL!!!!

Funny, most Trek fans agree this is one of the worst of the entire franchise. Wrath of Khan (ST II) or The Voyage Home (ST IV) are miles better.

Huh? Not really, I was referring to the movie Yours, Mine and Ours that came out a couple of years ago starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo. I much prefer the 1968 version with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball. Though speaking of Cheaper by the Dozen, the one with Steve Martin is enjoyable, but I like the one from 1950 with Clifton Webb & Myrna Loy better.

cinwood -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/23/2008 12:54:51 PM)

I agree with the remake of Cheaper by the Dozen. If people would read the book they'd realize that the remake should have been named something else. It's nothing like the book, which is one of my all time favorites, by the way.

I refused to go see the remake of Yours, Mine & Ours, because I knew they couldn't top the Lucille Ball/Henry Fonda one.

I really despise the remakes of old TV shows, because most of the shows were clean family entertainment and the movies pervert the characters and have no plot and/or nothing but vulgar and sexually suggestive humor.

Yes, I know full well what you're talking about. You missed what I was implying.

Yours, Mine, and Ours is basically a Cheaper by the Dozen replicate, except worst.

horsepill -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/23/2008 9:38:52 PM)

Yeah, I did miss your reference, for though I do get the similarities between CBTD & YM&O, I've just never really put the two films together. [:)]

Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky and Hutch. They are so bad that the guys in our church that usually think the more conservative christians are just sticks in the mud and need to learn how to have a little fun said that these movies were horrible. From a moral standpoint anyway.

dude...from any standpoint

they were both just really really bad in so many and diverse ways, its just hard to choose one

Leslie_JnJs_mom -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/25/2008 11:45:00 AM)

LOL I have to confess that I never saw the movies myself. When my husband came out of Sunday School and said Scott, Brett and Darell all said it was so horrible they turned it off we never bothered with it.

I think what I meant in terms of it being a success was that it spawned a whole new generation of Star Trek TV shows, additional movies, etc. It really re-ignited interest in Star Trek. It may not be considered a great ST movie, but it must have at least been enough of a success to lead to all those additional movies, TV shows, etc.

AprilMtns -> RE: Worst Movie Remakes of All Time (6/27/2008 8:04:13 AM)

The worst movie remake is the 2004 "The Manchurian Candidate", IMHO. I'm very sorry that I watched the remake. [&:]

The original was in 1962 with Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury. Excellent! [:)]

Day of the Dead.

Are we talking about the straight-to-DVD one with Mena Suvari and Ving Rhames? If so, I highly doubt that it even made an iota of improvement with George A. Romero's original, which I'm constantly reminded why that is still the worst of the entire Living Dead franchise.

I haven't seen the Dawn of The Dead remake with Rhames, since I find the original as being too misanthropic for my tastes... meh.[&:]

But for another fine example of a remake not improving a prior, inferior product, look no further than Rollerball! Even I'm relatively assured that both (director) Norman Jewison & James Caan are cackling in bewilderment over the update starring Chris Klein & Rebbeca Romjn![;)]

'Shoulda been nicknamed Rollerbleah! LOL

I'm glad I did not see the remake because the original is such a classic. I never understand why they try to remake classic movies. My idea, if you really need to borrow from past movies, would be this: Take some movie that was NOT a classic but has at least a decent storyline, tweak it up a lot, and release it. In this day and age, it may become a classic. Never try to remake a classic because it is highly doubtful you could ever match an original classic.
