OK - somebody had to do it. There is a very interesting post in the "He says" forum about men's thoughts of women and tattoos. I'm turning the tables and asking the same questions that mandicoot did.

Are they disgusting and a turn off? Or can they be somewhat attractive?

Would it be a "deal breaker" if he had a tattoo?

What if you got to know him, liked him, then later on in the relationship discovered that he had a tattoo or four?

Just for kicks, let's hear your comments about ear/body piercings too.

It would depend on what the tattoo was, and location.

Facial tattoos, and the full sleeves and knuckle tattoos are something I don't find attractive.

My name in a heart on his arm would be acceptable

They are not something that I'm crazy about. I definitely don't find them attractive.
Deal-breaker... I don't know.. it depends on what it was, etc.

Well...I married someone covered in them so I obviously didn't care, but I fail to understand how anyone could not see past a tattoo to the person underneath it. I don't even really notice my husband's, or anyone else's either, for that matter.

ohmygosh! Two posts in less than fifteen minutes? That's surprising, since I'm not really a thread-starter! Thanks for your replies!

How 'bout opinions on piercings too?

I don't mind them at all. I think some are down right sexy and mama always says to look at the heart before looking at the body.

I don't mind them on a guy either. As long as he's not covered in them.

Linving around a military base, I see lots of tattooed guys, mostly with the letters "USMC" on their shoulder or something and I really kinda like that.

But my guy doesn't have a tattoo and I wouldn't change a thing about him.

Not a deal breaker, even the ones I don't find attractive,
Except the face, and
Satanic symbols or racist symbols would be a deal breaker.

I don't care about piercings either way.

Also, some other woman's name or picture on his body would bother me.

I like some tattoos, and there are some guys who look cool with them. Body art is just that and if it is well-done and beautiful, I'd admire it. Stuff that is obscene, of course, would be a turn-off.

My husband doesn't have tattoos, but used to have pierced ears (he was a professional rock musician). If he decided to get tattoos, I'd have fun helping him pick them out or designing one for him.

Tattoos on some men my age are beginning to blur..so guessing what they are is always interesting.

Tattoos, piercings and long hair are all things that, in my opinion, typically look better in the movies than the do in real life. There are some guys who can pull it off, but for every guy who looks good with tattoos and piercings, there are a thousand others trying to look cooler than they actually are and end up looking ridiculous Just my personal taste, of course

They wouldn't be a "deal breaker", though. That's just immature.

I agree with Artemis : only a few can pull it off and actually look good. On a lot of guys I've seen, it just looks "dirty".

I don't mind tattoos, depending on the content. DH has kicked around the idea of getting one, and I'm perfectly fine with whatever he decides. He only has the scar left from an old ear piercing, but if he wanted to pierce something again, that'd be fine, too.

A loved ones former boyfriend tattooed both her and his name (including the word "forever")together in a heart on his chest.

I told my husband not to be that concerned, because when he looks in the mirror their names will read backward...LOL!

Of course it didn't last, their relationship that is.

Can you even imagine what (when he gets married) what his wife will be faced with?

Tattoos are here today...and here tomorrow.

I'm glad my husband does NOT have any.

Tatoos are fine. It does depend on what the tatoo depicts. If it is crass or tasteless, than, Ugh. If not, sure fine. As long as its not too obtrusive, like right down the center of his face or his kneck.

He'd just have to find a wife with the same name.

But what if a man got one with his wife's name, had been married for 30 years, then became a widower....how would women feel about dating a man with another woman's name on his chest in that situation? Would it be different?

Not a deal breaker at all, it seams women are more accepting than men or we are more honest because I can't imagine a man breaking it off with a woman because she has a tattoo, it could definitly be his loss

Men have weird ideas.

And all that talk about when you're old...seriously, who cares? You think you're still going to have the looks and the body you do now? Uh...no. And uh...did you marry a person for their body? Uh...I seriously hope not!

Yep. That'd be completely different. Not that it wouldn't take some getting used to, but it is different from the name of woman still living and out there somewhere.

Most tattooo artists would advise against getting tattooed with someone else's name. An exception might be your children's names.

My younger daughter has her son's name tattooed on her wrist with a pretty bracele-type pattern and plans on getting her daughter's name tattooed on the other wrist once the baby is weaned. I know some guys who also had their kids'names tattooed on them. That shouldn't bother anyone.

For those who had a lover's name tattooed and the relationship is gone but not the tattoo, there's always laser removal.

It can also be covered up by your tattoo artist.

One of my fave guy friends is thinking of getting a tat. I'm kind of thinking that you should get it where you can show it if you want to, or where it's easy to cover if you don't (or are in a situation where you would be judged harshly!) He's a preacher, by the way.

And a pierced ear can look nice. More piercings might be a bit much for me.

I like tattoos--but not on the face. And nothing gruesome or satanic. And a pierced ear is fine but other piercings no.
