Nicole_Michelle -> Natural bug repellents (6/20/2008 12:28:21 PM)

I've been looking online for natural bug repellents. Of course there are tons to choose from that I have no clue about. I want something without deet because using deet on your skin daily just can't be good.

Have any of you used any natural bug repellents that worked for you? How about any that are home made?

By the way, I am allergic to cedar oil and I noticed that some use it as an ingredient. Plus I want a spray/lotion that isn't oily or really strong smelling.

I found a few online that I am wondering about...

Hmmm... I've never made bug repellent, but there are some natural products companies that do, like Burt's Bees. However, perhaps some of their products have the cedar oil in them? Other natural DEET-free bug repellents (though you'd have to check for cedar oil) are Bite Blocker, LiquidNet, Jason Natural Quit Bugging Me, and Quantum BuzzAway.

We purchased a repellant for Nick when he was smaller, made from plants. The company went out of business several years ago. It worked, but he stunk like Cashmere Bouquet soap.

None of the home remedies work. I've tried them all. Dryer sheets. Vanilla. Citrus. Garlic. Vitamin B. Nick was very allergic to the bites, needing prednisone at least once a year.
