I totally disagree w/the idea that if he wins this is how he will govern!

We need to face it, that racism is alive and well in this country......sometimes quite hidden, but...other times right on the surface!!!!

People in texas saying if he won, would we still call it the White House!?!?!?
Come on. And thats lovely Republican talk!

I think we should use this as a wake up call to our own hearts as to our views concerning race. See where we fit into the overall picture!

Well possibly in the minds of Obama and Pastor Wright, but racism as a whole is a thing of the past.

Y'know like get over it (the victim mentality).

Have u had hearts to hearts with them, and that is what they have said........the grand thing of living here is choice.......being able to choose for oneself what is better for yourself.

Just a thought........maybe they dont want to be in Iraq for another 100 years........or maybe they want something done w/No Child Left Behind.........or w/preschool for families that cant make it on one income.........or a whole myriad of reasons!

I'm confused... Do I understand you to mean that us poor ignert Southerners voted because of his perceived religion (which I think is untrue, BTW) but the rest of the enlightened Democratic masses are voting for his policies?

Now come on why are you posting lies on the message board? Either your truth is flawed or you have taken a drink of the color-blind society kool-aid.

Cute.

But no Sir, just tired of folks complaing about all the efforts against them when we live in a truely free country and serve a god that set us all free fomr oppression, misery, etc.

Just seems that some folks woud complain if they were hung with a new rope. ( No pun intended )

Thanks

It seems to me that the people who yell loudest about racism are the most ardent practitioners of it. That may be a surprising statement from a Southern boy, but it's true!

He has used race as a counterpoint in discussions before, and I just do not see the widespread attacks that he feels the need to defend against. There will always be a few mean, ignorant people on one side or the other, but that does not equate to rampant evil racism stalking his every moment.

And isn't that the point of running as a black when he is not black but a mullato (as much white as black). To try to get the false guilt vote from folks?

Thanks

Oh my friend, I wish you were right. My wife has worked in the inner city, on the campus of a juvenile incarceration facility, and in suburbia. She and the folks she's worked with can tell you it's still alive and kickin'. Not kicking nearly as hard as it did when we were kids, thank God, but still kicking.

LOL - that would work if more than 50% of Americans could actually spell mullato, much less give an accurate definition! America thinks in terms of black/white. The word "mulatto" has largely fallen from the active vocabulary.

I really dont understand what your wink meant.......but, i know i'm not racist.....and having lived my whole life in the south......and driven through it quite frequently.......man's heart is desperatly wicked......and you can see it regarding the races still, in many pockets of this nation.

No i'm not saying, "everyone is a racist at heart"........i'm just saying that if one doesnt see it, then maybe you should take blinders off and look and see what is happening. I truly believe that Obama, has allowed us to talk about things that we have never really talked about, our own prejudices, and what a beautiful thing to happen, then a man who lived amongst the poor, has a working knowledge of the poor, and then is of the highest office in the land!
I'm pretty excited.

I have never said anything about enlightened people......i was commenting on the post above mine at the time.......that, did all of those people who are true conservatives, just want to vote for him becuz of his color.....???? i was asking her, if maybe they actually looked at his policies and were happy w/what they saw.......
I know to a strong degree i am pretty happy w/what i see in his polices!

Ok, well I do feel better knowing that's not what you meant!

You may be right about some folks needing to take off their blinders, I can agree with that. BUT, I also think there some who go too far and seem to have the ability to find racism in anything. These people are doing just as much to keep racism alive as the ones they rail against.

I'll quote myself from upthread: "He's the abortion-loving, gay-marriage-affirming, tax-raising, terrorist-appeasing, racial-huckstering secular Messiah most of America (and a whole bunch of titular "Christians") have been praying for. In November they'll get their wish. May the coming persecution draw the true body of Christ closer."

This excites you? God help us.

For the sake of arguement, let us say that racism is still alive and well as strongly as some people would have us believe. Why is it?

"Who is really keeping it alive and why?

If memory serves me right Obama opened a website recently to deal with rumors and such so that the presidential campaign could center on issues. Then he turns around and claims that Republicans (either through small isolated groups or as a whole) intend to base the campaign on racism.

How can Republicans address the issues if anything they say, contrary to Obama's views, are already painted as being nothing but racist?

I think the real truth of the matter is that NO ONE really wants to talk about the issues.

I believe that racism, as wide spread as some seem to believe it presently exists today will eventually cease to exist, if and when those who continuously bring it up for their own self interests stop doing so.

I am not saying that racism does not exist. It does, but on an individual basis, and as such will never ever really cease to exist. There are enough laws and such on the books to address racism as a crime, on an individulal basis.

We are never going to see the reality of Martin Luther King's dream of a colorless society if we continue to buy into this notion that race relations in ths country have not changed because some self appoointed champion and marketeer of victimhood says so.

Apparently, playing the so-called "race card" works. White people have been playing it for years. Recently, Hillary played it with her "hard working white people" comments. It's rarely advantageous for a black person to play the "race card" however, but it seems now, whenever a black person calls out somene for being racist, they're playing the "race card". Sometimes, it's actually true, ya know. Like it's something unethical or underhanded about calling something what it is. I guess if I'm ever caught speeding and get pulled over I can accuse the officer of playing the "speed card". Or if I don't pay my electric bill, I can accuse the electric company of playing the "turn off my lights card."

I've said before and I'll say it again. I believe Barack Obama will lose because there are too many people in America who won't vote for him for the simple reason he's black. And even more won't vote for him because of his "funny name." Or because they're convinced he's Muslim. Did I say EVERYBODY who doesn't vote for him is a racist, or just plain stupid? No, some, like the fine people in this forum, are looking at his stand on issues and issues alone. But there are a significant number who post in those forums down the street who won't vote for him because he's black. In some polls as many as 30 percent said such. In short, EVERYTHING Obama said about how he would be attacked is absolutely true. There is evidence of that already.

I was listening to some talking heads last night discussing possible running mates for McCain. When Bobby Jindal's name came up, one of the panel members said it would be a bad choice because McCain would risk losing votes from those who are voting for him just because he's the white guy. As most of you know, Jindal is a dark skinned Indian and former Hindu (I guess that makes him raised a Hindu). The talking head was speaking the truth. And so was Obama. Race is on so many peoples' minds, but only when Obama, or another black person mentions it do some people get offended and accuse them of playing "cards".

Well, my husband is African and thus my children are biracial (not "black" or "white"). I am excited that it is possible for someone like Obama to be president. We've come a long way.

But Obama himself scares me. His policies scare me. There is no way I'm voting for him just because it's great that he as a man of color has a shot at the presidency.

And I would *love* to see Bobby Jindal as VP. Interestingly some of the strongest public critics I know of Obama (who are constantly being berated for their "racism") are also strongly supporting Jindal as a candidate for vp.
