They sure are thinking outside the box, aren't they? I wish I could have done some of that kind of thinking when I was planning my wedding.

Barb, my husband never got me an engagement ring. My wedding ring is a plain silver band his mother bought for him to give me.

I had a candlelight wedding in a church. It was very beautiful and then a reception at a hotel afterwards.

Thanks for info Maggie on Hosea and Ezekiel.

Good to know you do rest at night Barb. Was thinking I was lazy compared to you. My supper dishes usually wait for the morning too. I get up early and get some housework done before going to work usually. I've laid off of it this week.

Cleaning up my hard drive data is much easier than I thought. Been doing that this afternoon. When we moved to the new building the IT people put my data in a difficult place to find. At first I thought they had lost it and I was desperate until I located where they had moved it.

Then with new stuff I did I used the file that was easiest to access. So today I open up both, tiered them vertically and then moved the data from one area to the other getting rid of duplicate files as I went. I also deleted all the old forms that have been revised. Didn't want to accidentally use them instead of the most recent updated ones.

Hi all!

My daughter has mentioned wearing Converse to her wedding. I'm not sure if she cares what anyone else wears.

LOL Barb! Well, 'non-traditional' seems to be the trend these days, so just go for it. I was invited to my first 'pot-luck' wedding last year. I have to admit, it rankled a bit. Seemed a bit much to ask the guests to bring the food when we were also bringing a gift, etc. That particular wedding was held on a raft on the river. And, as it turned out, I didn't go to it (kinda paid for that in more ways than one )

But, I've always had a thing about being invited to a gathering of any kind where gifts would be expected & being asked also to bring a covered dish , so guess it's just me. But, if I were to give advice . . which I'm not cuz it's not allowed on here, ya know , so I'm just giving my opinion . . I would say the least expensive way to go is the best. I think weddings have gotten a bit out of hand. Many families really can't afford all the falderol & expense of big weddings, yet do it anyway, on credit -- sometimes I wonder if they got that credit card bill paid off before the couple wound up in divorce court . . . so whatever happened to the simple ceremony -- even in the parent's backyard -- with a cake & punch reception. The other side of that would be that many families travel LONG distances to go to weddings (we never have), so would be more inclined to expect a meal, I guess. If I had my daughter's to do over, I would certainly encourage SIMPLE

Well, not much sewing again today, tho I did manage to get a jacket to the point of a fitting, and even took it by for that fitting on my way home a while ago, as well as delivered 4 other pieces to the lady that I'd completed. But I got a call early this morning to help out with my friend again, so I sat with her for the afternoon. And we both had a good nap! . . . boy that felt good, after the night I had. And I got the rest of my flowers potted this morning, too, so did get stuff accomplished.

I like the cake and punch idea for a reception. I catered my brother-in-law's wedding (more than 30 years ago) and that's what we did. It was more than that but not by much. It was a lot of fun and more relaxing for everyone, I think. As for out of town guests, well, there's no reason why something couldn't be done after the reception for those close to the out of towners. Everyone go out for dinner or something. When my niece got married last summer, family from both sides travelled. The kids got married where they went to university--far from each of their homes. The bride booked us all into the same hotel and so we had multiple times of being together over the weekend. She and her groom also planned a two-family picnic at a large park the day before the wedding so we all had the afternoon together and that was nice.

Leah,
The "pot luck" wedding my oldest daughter had was alright. My sisters and my husbands sisters/brothers, and the grandparents, were asked if they wanted to bring a dish to pass. They had no problem with it, so all was well. I just could'ent see haveing that young couple paying $14 per plate, or more. And she wanted to not have a meal at all. Now I know the family expected to eat something. So I came up with the idea. Everytime we all get together, everyone brings food anyways. And we always have so much of it. So I knew our families did'ent mind bringing a dish to pass.

Dee,
Mabey it was the converse tennie Katie mentioned. A tennie shoe is just that to me..I don't know the name's of them all.

Ginny,
Me and my husband also had a candlelight ceremony, at our church. 7PM as a matter of fact. Then we went to a hall four miles away. Had a country band for the danceing, and served finger foods around 11PM.
Worked for us pretty well. I did get my diamond engagment ring, with a matching wedding band. My husbands band matches mine.

Converse shoes......oh how nice and comfortable! I hated the dress shoes I wore at my wedding...tennis shoes sound like a great idea. And a pot luck...Maggie's story sounds the best. So much of my family lived in other states I could not have asked them to provide a dish.

My best friend had an outdoor wedding. If the weather is nice and it doesn't rain...why not. Wonder what it would be like to have one outside after a snow fall? Brrr.....cold.

When my daughter got married I thought it would be nice to put candles in her wedding room at their hotel and flowers etc. to make it romantic. A friend of her did it for me...asking the hotel's permission of course and lit the candles before the bridge and groom got there. The room was lovely from what I was told. The only problem is my daughter caught her wedding gown on fire and her new husband had to squash the fire out with his hands and DD did too both burning their hands. The rest of the honeymoon night was spent in pain from the burns. And the wedding dress was ruined. Not the kind of memory I intended.

Ginny

Never mind, Bill. I've found them and ordered them. I'm a sucker for books. When I get old and have to downsize to a tiny apartment, my walls will be covered with full bookshelves.

Oh sure, after I list type out this big ole post with links and everything!

Barb, tell your daughter that black Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars (high tops) are acceptable formal wear.

Good Thur. Morning Everyone

Bill,
I will tell Katie that. I know she mentioned high tops. Mabey they are the ones she was talking about. She sleeps in until 11AM or so. My Cody also stays in his bedroom that long. Think they stay up late into the night. Must be nice to have the summer off.

Lovely sunny day again today. Hot and Humid. Dew point is already 71 and the temps are expected to hit 89 degree's. I have the central air going since yesterday. Guess we will be staying in again today. Have three little ones here with Isabelle comeing later. They will keep me busy. Next week Tom's wife starts another job. So I will have Ethan and Brett on Monday for sure. Should be intresting. Good thing Katie and Cody are here to help me. Gonna make them get out of bed early that day.
My Lilies outside are starting to open up. They are so pretty. I have alot or orange ones out there, so last year I planted pink and yellow ones in the area also. The pink are open..just waiting for the yellow ones to show up now. I have them all planted and lined up by my deck. The rails and latties (sp?) are painted white. So the flowers look real nice next to it. And the deck holds the flowers up good. Otherwise they would drop to the ground.

Good morning Ginny, Bill & Barb!

Our pastor's daughter wore tennis shoes for her wedding . . bedecked with seed pearls, sequins & lace . . . they were cute!

Ginny, that's awful about the candles! I mean, it was a wonderful idea, and so good of you to think of it, but to catch the dress on fire! . . . I guess that wouldn't be hard to manage if one wasn't be cautious, but what a horrible thing to happen

We had an outdoor wedding in Mom & Daddy's front yard . . . in fact, we stood on homeplate to get married, so tennis shoes would have been a wonderful idea . . . . We had cake & punch afterwards, but I'm sure mom had a full meal cooking on the stove. It was mostly family, but that would have been a lot of ppl and many would have been spending the night.

It rained last night, which means I don't have to water the flowers this morning . . . not that I would have minded too much. It's a cool 64 degrees out there, so if it wasn't so wet I would take a nice stroll around the flowerbeds and see how all my new plants are faring . . might just do that anyway

I'm moving rather slow -- just cuz I can . . but I need to get my Bible study done and then get started sewing again. At least I get to stay home today, so I really should be able to accomplish some things in that sewing room, huh.

Assuming that you actually go into said sewing room.

Did you get to the said sewing room Leah?

I am haveing an awful afternoon with Hailey (my great neice). She just won't go to sleep. I know she is really tired because she did'ent take her morning snooze. I have tried everything. Now it's the crying game I guess. She is 3 months old. A rather difficuld little one
Have Ethan and Brett here also. We got Brett to sleep..but Ethan is still running around. Can't seem to get him to nap. Altho I do have the rest down for naps.
I must admit, I am rather tired myself

Yes, Barb, I did actually get to the sewing room, and have made some progress on the jacket that's been so difficult. I think I have it nearly ready to set the sleeves back into, tho I'd venture to say the are going to need taken in some also.

Sorry you're having such a time with the little one, Barb. Don't you hate that when they need to sleep so badly and just don't want to give it up . . sheesh!

I called my elderly friend and while I talked with her I took a stroll around my gardens. The grass is still very wet. It's only about 72 degrees out, and very nice for strolling. All my flowers are looking wonderful -- the rain really came at a fortuitous time -- flowers love a fresh rain right after they've moved into their new homes

And I was ready for another break. I seem to have lots of breaks these days. Owell.

OUCH!!!! No! That is NOT the way to start a honeymoon. I was very sick our first night. So badly that dh called room service to give me a hot toddy. It was hilarious because the fellow who delivered the drink turned out to be a classmate of his (he was still in university) who didn't know he was getting married. The guy was quite shocked to see dh in that room with me.

Sorry! I ordered six books, not five. Another of his books was published in March of this year and the title looked like it might fit the series.

Barb and Linda, I envy you your beautiful gardens. I'm not doing anything this year but in the past when I've tried to grow things, the best I can do is weeds. It's very disheartening.

Really? I've read all the other books. I'll have to look into this new one.

I worked till 6:00 tonight and I'm tired. By 5:00 I was really dragging at work. I am so glad I prepared a beef stew in the crock pot this morning. Came home at lunch time to add the potatoes. Just added the cornstarch so it could thicken then supper will be all ready. (This morning before work, I chopped up beef stew cubes into finer pieces coated them with flour then browned them in real butter before I put them into the crock pot with a can of beef broth, a can of mushroom soup, and an envelope of onion soup mix.)

No one is home and it's quiet so I guess I'll get my bible reading done though I am really tired and want to go take a nap.

Ok, what happened to my post answering Bill???

I think I may just be too tired for this myself tonight

Bill, I completely missed your input up there . . . sometimes I surprise myself and do what I planned for the day . . . today was one of those days. At least I tried. That jacket is giving me fits -- can't seem to get the sleeves back in . . . wonder what the lady would think about a Sleeveless Silk Jacket --- she could start a new trend!

Stew sounds good, Ginny. I always forget I have a crockpot though mine is one of the original kind that isn't very big and is a pain to clean because the liner isn't removable.

Linda, if it's sleeveless, it's not a jacket anymore.

If you mean Epicenter, that's a non-fiction book about the mess in the Middle East. I haven't read that one.

Good Friday Morning Everyone

Sharon put up a new picture for me. It's of Ethan, Tommy, and my hubby fixing Tommys brakes. Ethan HAD to go help them. He got sooo dirty that day w/o his shoes on. I went out there to snap pictures. He was helping them put the tire back on.

Opps...Brandi just came over with Isabelle..I'll be back...

Ditto on Bill's post! He looks like he knows just what he's doing, too!

Good morning, all. God errands to do this morning -- or today, at least. Have to get to the bank, then go get my driver's license renewed -- yeah, I'm still trying to do that. See, THIS is why Bill keeps after me to do these sort of things cuz he knows I procrastinate until sometimes there is simply no time left. Well, today is the last day before they expire, so better get down there, huh

Need to tackle that jacket again afterwards . . think I figured out how to do it.

Thanks Bill

Yes Leah, the funny thing was, he did know how to put them nuts on the tire, and use that crisscross thingy to tighten them all. (Yeah, yeah I know that crisscross thingy has a name...but I'm haveing a senior moment again)
Glad you might have figured out how to fix that jacket.
I tend to procrastinate when it's bill paying time.

Yeah, for you, Ginny! I'm sure you ARE excited -- and that's great! You'll be great with the kids.

Barb, that's amazing! Maybe he's gonna be an engineer! How cute

I did my running, got my driver's license (Yea!!!), had lunch with my friend at the Senior Center, went to the Library and got two books, and then a book store, where I bought one used one, by McD's for my coffee and now am back home and ready to read. But alas, I need to sew first . . . ok, I've told myself I will sew for one hour. That should give me time to get the sleeve problem straightened out and the sleeves ready to go in . . maybe I'll make it 1½ hours so I can actually get them in. We'll see.

I didn't go to the gym, however . . . I just couldn't make myself go in there and get all nasty & sweaty after spending so much time cleaning up and fixing my hair this morning . . . . owell.
