How I wish that was true. The freezing is coming out and simply touching my tooth with my tongue gives me screaming pain. I don't know what to do. Learn to put up with it? Spend the next month eating ice cream only? That latter option wouldn't necessarily be so bad.

Maggie, your lasagna & Caesar salad sounds scrumptious . . I'm not surprised your son thinks it's the best . . . hope you have a very nice dinner tonight with all your family.

Thanks, Linda. It was good and everyone ate a lot.

We're all gathered in the living room listening to a piano concerto ds3 wrote. It's amazingly good--as good as any of the great composers of long ago. Kind of reminds me of Listz.

Hi all!

Hi Ginny, I'm still around. Thanks for asking! I'm glad you had a nice lunch and some fun shopping.

Maggie, hubby's folks used to live about an hour from Vancouver, BC. They moved to a different part of the state. I enjoyed my visits to BC. I'm a little sad they moved away from that area, but with gas prices so high I don't know when we'll go again anyway.

Lasagna sounds good. So does the torte. Is it Australian, Barb? I think my niece made that once when I was visiting hubby's folks. And yay for kids that appreciate mom's cooking!

That was nice you could help your son out Barb.

Leah, aren't small towns fun? I bought a bed at a garage sale once and the people I bought it from were thinking they could deliver it to my house. The lady asked if I lived in the house (insert description here). She said she'd seen me in my yard before. Yep, that was my house.

Yesterday afternoon the owner of the bed and breakfast my daughter has worked at some called me; she wanted someone to do some weeding, etc. I knew today was supposed to be pretty nice so I said I could come do it today. So I spent 5+ hours there doing that. They seemed really happy that things were looking better. There's still more I could do; I said I thought it would be better if I came back after a rain. So maybe that'll work out. It was nice, because all the work I did motivated them to work outside too. The owner got out the trimmers and trimmed up some bushes; she said she likes doing that.

Thanks Dee.

Vancouver is nice--Ds4 lives there. Their spring comes so much sooner than ours but their winters are cloudy and rainy.

My kids got a bargain. They didn't pay any rent when the lived with us or moved back in. And they got their food for free too.

Barb, all you food sounds sumptuous. I wanted to make a potato salad but haven't made one for years so opted instead to do a shell pasta salad.

Leah, the cake and the vegetable dish sound good. Thanks for posting about the girl messing up on clearly given directions. That's how I feel about advising some students. The directions were given correctly but the person receiving them didn't process them correctly. I posted in Maggie's thread how I am feeling about this advising business.

Welcome back Dee, good to see you post. Did you get paid for your hard work at the bed and breakfast?

Maggie, have fun on your trip. We will miss your postings. Your visit to the dentist reminded me of mine; the drilling and needles was the pits and I ended up hurting more after the visit than I did before it. Hope your story is different and you feel better soon.

My mouth is hurting both sides of my lower mouth hurt. The dentist visit I had a couple of weeks ago fixed the cavity in one jaw tooth but the one next to it which didn't bother me before the visit has been hurting since it. I can't put food on top of it and chew so can't really chew on that side. Then on the jaw tooth area of the other side of my bottom teeth I have another tooth that has fallen apart recently and I have to go back to the dentist for more drilling. If it goes the same as the first visit, I won't be able to chew as both sides will hurt when I do. Guess I could use my front teeth to eat. And who knows could be a blessing in disguise not being able to eat means losing weight.

Barb, that power nap lasted a real long time, six hours in fact.

Yep, Dee, I DO love small towns . . . . . . funny story:

The other day I drove thru the bank drive-up window and handed them a check, saying I didn't have a deposit slip, but please deposit it in my account. The girl took the check and moved to her station to do what I'd asked, then I remembered I'd not given her a checking account number or even name so she could do so. I waited & watched for her to come back, but lo & behold, when she returned, she handed me a deposit slip. I checked it, and sure 'nuf, my account number was properly recorded. I drove away smiling to myself thinking, I don't know that girl from Adam, yet she knew exactly who I was and was able to look up my account number without asking a single question. Not sure how long it was -- maybe a few hours, when it hit me that my name was on that check
But, hey, it was still cool that I'm the only Linda ____ in town and she didnt' have to question if she had the right one

Ginny, that was some kinda power nap! I call that simply sleeping . . . . I'm sorry you're mouth is still giving you problems, btw.

Well, I didn't get my overnight salad done tonight, so guess I get to work on that first thing in the morning. Owell, it will be all-day salad, I guess

Well it was suppose to be a power nap but believe you're right it was simply sleeping mustof needed it.

Yes I like small towns too. You get to know all the people you do business with.

Have a Happy 4th of July everyone!

Maggie, I've been in that area a couple of Christmases. I hope the locals get used to the winter cloudiness. We get a lot of sunshine in winter here so I didn't like that so much.

Ginny, I should get paid. I need to write my time down for her before I forget.

It's almost 10:30PM here and of course lots of fireworks. I hope they quit soon; my daughter has to get up at 5AM to go to work.

I see I never got this posted. The fireworks have stopped now.

Haha Leah, thanks for sharing that!

The town I live in now is actually about twice the size of the town I grew up in, so it doesn't seem that small to me, but to most people it would.

Thanks, Ginny. I leave about 4:00 tomorrow afternoon so I'll probably show up here sometime tomorrow. We're only going an hour and a half away but where we're going is inside the forest and where we live is on the prairie so there is a large difference (aside from the difference of urban and rural).

A six hour nap? Wow! You were tired! I'm tired but I can't sleep. Sigh.

I think those who live there like the mildness of their winters. Personally, I'd rather the sun with deep freeze temps than non-stop clouds and rain.

Good story, Linda. Yeah, I have a very common first-last name combo. There are at least two others in the city with the same so I have to always be on guard that medical personel, etc. get the right person.

I agree Maggie. My in-laws don't like it here in Kansas much in the heat of summer or the cold of winter. They moved to western Washington state, which is a lot less temperate for them, but I haven't heard them talk about that much.

The forest sounds lovely Maggie; I hope you have a good time!

I hope so. It's been a while since I've described the forest here in CW. Unlike the US, there is a band of forest, about 1000 miles north to south that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific in Canada. It extends as far north as the Arctic tree line (where it's too cold for trees to grow). The "Woods" you have in Northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota is the southernmost part of that forest.

In Manitoba, the entire eastern border is in the forest but starting from near the south-east corner of the province, the southern edge of the forest moves in a diagonal line until, on the western border, the southern quarter or third is forestless. The triangle that remains (a right triangle sitting on the US border) is the beginning of the Prairies. Winnipeg is about a half hour west and south of the edge of the forest.

Once you enter the forest it can feel like it will never end. But thankfully, we only drive another hour or so inside the forest. Here the ground is granite, the trees' roots taking advantage of every little crack in the rock. There are a multitude of lakes (Manitoba boasts of having 100,000 and Ontario surely has more), bogs, streams, rivers, rocks and, of course, trees. The roads are narrow and twisty. No freeways come near this part of Canada. Even the major truck route, once you enter Ontario, is one lane each direction with narrow gravel shoulders or, in many places, no shoulders at all.

We're staying at a small Christian camp at the edge of a lake. The camp can accommodate about 50 people if they're all really well squeezed in. The speaker for the week has one session a day in the morning and the rest of the time is free. There are great hiking/biking trails, canoes and in the afternoon the camp's motorboat is running non-stop for water skiers, tubers and those who want to sit and enjoy some time out on the water. There's a good, naturally sandy beach as well. I'll take my computer so I can write, a pile of books so I can read and hope to do some walking to build up my strength. Most of the people there I only know in passing, though dh is very good at becoming "good friends" with all of them.

It should be a good time if my mouth behaves itself.

Now, if I could just get to sleep!

Praying for your mouth pain Maggie.

Last summer we went to Minnesota and camped on a few miles from the shore of Lake Superior. So I guess we were on the edge of that huge forest. Interesting what you say about all the trees. Last summer the kids made some comments about all the trees and it being kind of nice to get back to some more open terrain.

I'd like to see that forest someday, Maggie. I'm thinking it would be like (maybe once was a part of) the forest that is talked about in a book called An Awakening Land, which is really a trilogy (The Trees, The Fields, The Town) by Conrad Richter about the settlement of the Ohio valley.

The forest described it there was so thick and dense even after clearing a big enough space for a cabin and a small garden, one couldn't see the sun except for a short, few minutes at midday. Actually, the mother of this family that moved there simply languished and died, presumably from lack of sun, isolation, loneliness. It's hard for me to imagine a forest like that, even tho I've lived around forests all my life. But even in the deepest forests I've been in, there was always a respite -- a cabin, a cleared tract of land, something to suggest civilization. I wouldn't want to live in forests that deep, but it sure would be cool to see.

My veggie salad is made and in the fridge; I just took the cake oout of the oven, and the brownies are nearly ready to come out also. Tomorrow we're planning to have Bill's niece & family who helped us with the flooring in for the fried chicken dinner we promised, so I've decided to save the Lemon Pudding Cake (just named it! -- how cool is that ) for that dinner, and take brownies to the picnic tonight.

I guess my next job needs to be working on that dress. It won't take long at all, and I've already had one customer come to pick up some pants, and another one call wanting to drop some off this afternoon, which I said was fine. I'm not so busy that I can greet a customer or two even if it is a holiday . . one of the perks of working at home

Hello Leah.

Have fun at your church picnic.

Barb, hope you have a good time today too.

My husband and son are asleep. I'm gearing up for the cleaning I need to do. Have struggled with tiredness this week and slept in today.

Yep, though it's not as dense in Minnesota. When driving to or from Ontario, I prefer travelling through the US because there's more variety in the scenery. Not 24 hours of only trees.

Linda, you're most welcome to come visit "my" forest whenever you want (so are the rest of you). I'd love to have you here and show you my favourite places. There are clearings. There are places where the rocks are bare and there are no trees. The trees aren't as big as yours in Missouri but you have a decent-sized forest in Missouri. I remember driving through it on the way to your place.

The forest has quite a few communities in it but except for those communities near the edge of the forest, most can be reached only by air. In the winter, when the lakes and bogs are frozen, winter roads are created on the ice and snow and large semi-trucks truck into those communities the items that are too costly to fly in. There's only a short window of time. 4 to 6 weeks and during that time the winter roads are crazy busy. Some drivers will try to stretch the window of time and there's almost always at least one truck that's broken through the ice before the season is over.

I've got to go pack.

Have a great Fourth of July, everyone!

So how was everyone's 4th? We bought our first grill (yay!), but that was about it yesterday. We're doing more today...going to get the little man a kiddy pool and then tonight we're watching fireworks with the neighbor at his house. He's doing it early because his girls need to be in bed, and so does our little one!

Hi MomaPyratekk!

We had a good fourth. We watched the display the city puts on. We watched from our church; it's at a good spot. Some folks decided to make it an outreach thing so there were free hotdogs, chips, snow cones, and cotton candy. It seemed to go well.

I'll be glad when the fireworks aren't going off so late so my kids can sleep at night. Especially since my oldest has to get up around 5:15 to go to work.

What are you planning to grill on your new grill?

Hi Dee, The fireworks started being set off around here on the 1st. By this time I am always ready for them to end. All those goodies at your church were free? What a nice way to spend the fourth, with church family and yummy goodies to eat at no expense.

I stayed home and for the most part stayed inside. The neighbors had a firework display in their front yards and the street. There were 10 young children running around. They figured it was better for them to do the fireworks themselves as our fireworks at the carnival don't go off until 11:00 and by then they wanted the kiddies in bed.

I could have gone over and socialized but I've been very tired this week and a little down. The two jaw teeth I am having trouble with were hurting and all I wanted to do was sleep.

Mmmmmm MamaP. Steaks sound yummy.

We had hamburgers on the grill last night. They were good too. And homemade ice cream. And then we went to church and the kids had a little more stuff. Well I had some chips too. Yep Ginny, all free. I thought it was a nice outreach.

Ginny, that's awfully late for fireworks. We were home by 10:15 I think. It only took us a few minutes to get home even with the traffic.

Never mention hamburgers around a pregnant lady! lol just kidding! I think we're going to do hamburgers tomorrow night, I'm telling you...GRILL ADDICTS! Man, I'm really craving a grilled hot dog right now (even though I may have just eaten one not that long ago).

Homemade icecream, that sounds great! Do you have an icecream maker then I take it? Or is there some other nifty way to make it that I need to be let in on? :D

Oops, sorry!

Yes, we have an electric ice cream maker.

Although you can do it this way. We did something like that once. Actually, I think what I did was fix everything up without the kids knowing what was inside, and then told the kids they had to kick the can around the yard for a while and then there would be a surprise for them. Fun! I wonder if I could pull that off again with my younger two. Hmmmm. My boy is ten; I wonder if he's done that sort of thing in school or somewhere.

Edit: I checked the link, if you click on it you and an ad comes up you will have to click the skip this ad link, at the top I think, and then you'll get the page.

Cool!! Ice Cream in a can. Let me know if you decide to do this with the kids again. My crew would love this idea.

Our family get together was great yesterday. The kids had a blast on the 4 wheelers and one of my sons set up a rubber sled attached to the 4 wheeler and the kids got on with someone driving the 4 wheeler of course and around the yard they went. The 3 years had a blast as well. Sometimes they would try to stay on by standing up. When the little ones were on it, the driver of the 4 wheeler went very slow.

When the teenagers were on it, the drive went fast trying to get them to fall off. My youngest son who is 15 drove when his girlfriend who is 15 was on and she kept falling off in a certain area of the yard. She would run and throw herself back on the sled and around and around they would go again until low and behold she felt off again. When it was her turn to drive my son around she did her best to get him to fall off but was unsuccessful.

The firework display my 2nd son had was awesome. We were right up close so the display was right above us and fantastic to watch. It was this son's birthday and we had ice cream cake to celebrate.

There was plenty of meat. Pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs and brats and steaks. Then we had my pasta salad, deviled eggs, cheese balls, the fruit tray, olives, and chips. I loved the cheese balls my oldest girlfriend made and brought some of it home with me. That's what I had for breakfast.

Didn't make it to church today. Slept in. I believe I have a bladder infection to go along with the teeth that are bothering me and have been more tired lately. We didn't get home until after midnight and I slept right thru church time.

Two of the little boys parked themselves in front of my fruit tray and used it as their plate chowing down on the fruit. The 3 year old kept taking a bite of the melon slices and then putting some of it back into the fruit tray. I objected to this and told him not to do that and the second time he did and I said something he started to cry so I made a 3 year cry yesterday but you know I didn't want his half eaten melon back into the main tray of food.

Ginny
