Whee, tomorrow I start as a breakfast hostess at a hotel just down the road from my home...commute time, less than ten minutes. Home by noon, four days on, three days off. It will help bring a little extra money home. It will help rebuild our savings that got eatten up with the move and while our other house is still on the market.

car2ner - that sounds like an awesome opportunity. I think I'm going to have to give in and go see my dentist. They've been calling me and bugging me and finally my mom got really mad at them one day. I told them I would call to make an appointment because I don't have dental insurance right now and I can't afford to pay out of pocket right now. They kept calling my house and leaving rude messages (I was screening their calls.) So they started calling my mom's house. The calls have stopped since my mom got angry at them, but now one of my teeth is hurting. I'm going to give it a few more days and see if it's just a product of this insane cold that I have, but I have a feeling I'll have to give in.

That's great, car2ner. Roberta, I hope something can be sorted out so that you and your dd have more privacy.

Thanks Trish. As long as she doesn't allow for me to declare anything off limits for her husband and girls, it's looking like moving may be the only choice. However, until I get the disability woes sorted out, financially speaking, moving isn't an option.

Roberta -- I know how that goes with the lack of privacy. I do hope you are able to work something out. We have been living with my parents for the past year and half. Thankfully our house is almost ready to be moved into.

I don't know how you ladies do it living with other people. For a year, I lived with my mom until I figured out what I was going to do. I was a single mom (going through my divorce) at that point in time & I only had an associate degree. Well, when mom pushed that I get a minimum wage job & put my precious one year old in daycare (in a huge city IMO where a HUGE majority of my pay would go to his care), I bucked & moved to a small town to go to college. I don't regret it.... There were just too many conflicts about parenting, etc. Granted, my mom (and dad) raised me, but that doesn't mean she knows what is best for MY child. I love my mom dearly, we just had different opinions on various things. For me, I needed to be out on my own to prove that I could do it, etc. I went to college (yes, my son was in daycare...a small in-home daycare) worked part-time (at one point I had 3 different part-time jobs!) and got my BA in elementary education. In other news...sold a sofa-bed couch yesterday and an organ today. Praise God! Our fridge has been spoken for and will be picked up on Monday. That's pretty much all of our big items sold (aside from our washer & dryer, a love seat, and a recliner which we'll still need after our move).

That's really out of line for them to do that. I wouldn't want to continue giving them my business after that nonsense. quote:

However, until I get the disability woes sorted out, financially speaking, moving isn't an option. That's just unbelievable! Now if you were a younger, minor sister, that would make sense. "You're my legal responsibitly and I'm responsible to know anything going on in my house, etc." But you're an adult and your daughter is your responsibility. Any chance you could just get a lock for it yourself? How much would that cost? Or maybe a Rottweiler, if BIL decided to break in? LOL At the very least a safe to keep valuables in so they can't take anything. If the kids can't understand the concept of privacy, what's to help them understand ownership? Or I suppose you could empty out their stuff so they won't need to go in and get it. (Especially their video games.) I hope things work out soon for you to get out of there. Daughter of Faith- Good going on the sale. I'm glad things went well. {sigh} I'm worried about M. He really doesn't want to do taekwondo here. I'm OK with him just going and if he works up the courage, fine. He knows how to do it but while he enjoyed it at first in Kuwait, he's decided he doesn't like it. Most of that is because he has to obey the captain and he's very oppositional. It takes some creativeness with him. Since he's only 4, I don't want to insure he ends up hating it. It's a wonderful thing for him to be involved in and I want him to be willing to go back to it if he does stop now. DH, on the other hand, is putting the pressure on. He just doesn't understand that your kids don't always like the same things you do and they shouldn't have to. Ugh! Anyway, since yesterday he's been saying that he doesn't want to go to the water park for the field trip today. I can't help but wonder if it has to do with the taekwondo issue. He has to go to taekwondo (even though he just sits and watches-fine with me). But maybe he's trying to feel a little in control of something else. That's fine with me too. H and E went and that's fine. He's just playing at camp instead. If he just didn't want to go, that's fine. But he LOVES going to the water park and playing in the water. That's what has me a little worried. After I pick him up I'll take him with me to pick up FIL who's going to watch E do taekwondo tonight. He'll enjoy a chance to have him to himself before I pick up his brother and sister. Have a nice day, ladies.

The whole family is looking for a new dentist actually, my dad just left. My mom complained to one of the receptionists and she was upset because apparently it's one receptionist who is doing this and everyone has asked her to stop. The dentist himself was competely cool when I told him I couldn't afford to come on a regular basis. But I just hate going to the dentist so much that I'm scared to find a new one (I saw a new once and I bit her.) quote:
I don't know how you ladies do it living with other people. I know. When Dh and I first married, he was sharing an apartment with a friend. Things were tight financially and we found out I was pregnant and Dh asked his friend if we could stay a few more months to save some money. The friend said yes, since he really didn't live there (all the time he had been paying rent but still living at his last place.) But then he would stop by and criticize the way we were keeping house. Apparently I didn't keep it clean enough for his standards. Well, since he didn't actually live there I didn't see what his problem was, and if it wasn't up to his standards then he could clean it himself. I understand silliness like that when you're in college and living with people, but when you're full grown adults, it's a little ridiculous.

Daughter Of Faith, good going on the sale. I live with a couple of friends. I don't mind it. I don't like living alone. Actually, I never have lived alone, but I guess it's in my personality. The people I live with are good though. The last person I lived with though was a real problem. If I had visitors, unless I specifically told her it was a private thing, she'd just come and join us without being invited. What really got to me though, was when I would make a phone call, she'd either come in, or listen on the extension! One morning, I called my mother really early so that she wouldn't hear, and my mother heard somebody pick up the phone extension. I couldn't believe it! Thankfully I don't have that problem now.

DH and I lived with his aunt and uncle for a few months when we moved out here. Overall it went well- they're very generous people, but we did our best to help out as well. They've sort of adopted us since we moved so far from family and they don't have children of their own.

The couple I live with couldn't have kids either. They kind of adopted me too as the daughter they could never have. They're like my spiritual parents, so I don't mind. Ouch about the cost of the dental!

Trish, that's wonderful that the couple you live with are like spiritual parents to you & have sort of adopted you. That could be better than actual family at times. You can choose adopted family can't choose your own.

I'm pretty thankful for my family....in-laws & all. I didn't think the dental work was that expensive, but you have to remember you're talking to the young lady who spent over $1000 to have 4 wisdom teeth removed about 18 months ago.

ORIGINAL: nanato3 I'm adding a post to my post. I'm blessed I'd choose my family even if they weren't mine. Now there is a sil I think I'd think long & hard about!! Actually, they are closer than my blood family. I'm not close to my family, even though growing up, I wanted to be. There were circumstances why that didn't happen. I still keep in contact with my brothers, but in all honesty, they are more like strangers to me. They're older than me. They are close, but have never been with me. I could tell you so much more about the people that I live with than my own brothers. We're really close. People who don't know that I'm not the daughter of the couple I live with, think I am their daughter. I don't mean in looks, but personality wise, I'm so like the husband it's not funny. Sometimes I even have to tell the other what their spouse is on about. John and I have the same sick sense of humour, and Joan just sits there looking at us like we're both mad when we get started. LOL!

That's great, Trish My blood family is a little different as well....I actually feel like I fit in better with my in-laws in some ways. Weird, huh? It'll definitely be different moving so far away. I just pray that the semi-closeness I have developed with them doesn't die now that we'll be a 2 day car drive away.

Our plan right now is to see my family in Kansas for the holidays. We spent both holidays this last year with DH's family. And yeah, I know there's phones, etc. It hasn't been easy communicating on the same time zone, so I'm afraid it will get harder once we change time zones. We'll be able to call his mom early in the mornings though...she's a very early morning person!!

I know what you mean about different time zones. My brothers and their families live in a different state. I've got friends who live overseas, so I've got to remember to factor in their times.
