OK, so where is the boundary between Southern and not Southern? I have an idea in my head but I wonder what others think.....

Basically use the interstates as your line of demarcation and anything that is to the south, east, or west (towards the coastline) is NOT southern.

From the Panhandle to the Mason-Dixon line is my understanding of "southern".

That answer confuses me profoundly!
Think of the interstates - I10, I75 and I95. I10 runs east/west through the panhandle. In the panhandle, anything to the south of I10 is NOT southern (meaning, it's all transplants from the north).
I75 runs down the west coast of the state. Same thing. Anything from I75 west towards the Gulf of Mexico, is NOT southern - again, transplants.
I95 runs down the east coast of the state. Same thing again. This time, it's anything east towards the Atlantic. These are all transplants and NOT southern.
Also, those who came down I75 are from the midwest and ended up on the West Coast of FL. Those who came down I95 are from the northeast and ended up of the East Coast of FL.
Make sense???????

Ah, that post was Florida-specific. I was looking at maps of the entire Southeastern US and wondering which interstates you were referring to and wondering how a city like Charleston, SC could be excluded from the South.

Nope, we're only talking about how FL is NOT part of the "south".

Gracious, talking about construction. I llive at the intersection of I-24 and I-75 and there's been construction around me FOREVER. For example, they started working on the flyover ramp for 153 over I-75 in around 1997. They were still working on it in 2003 and didn't finish it until a couple years later. Now they're working all the way up to Cleveland almost. They're building a new exit at the site of Enterprise South, where the new VW plant is going.
For us to have such a beautiful city, it's always covered up with orange barrels.
But, progress is worth it, I suppose....
