I've worn 'em (similar styles from VS, not those specific line), and I believe it does cover what you say (although I'm starting to blush). Can't speak to staying on during school yard gymnastics.

The difference is that a 10 yr old's shape is not generally as curvy as a woman's - ie the hips tend to be more "straight down", so I think that the fit is not likely to be quite as "secure" on a child as it would be on a woman.

Exactly, Manda...and in addition, what is appropriate or even modest on me at 33 may not be so on a 10 yo girl, or even my 13 yo sister...and vice versa.

No one said raggedy, but modest and age appropriate would be good. And really, my beef isn't with the bras but with the underware from VS. It just isn't age appropriate.

Have you been in a VS??? There are several collections each one is different. The "pink" is very modest and very cute. Pink is geared towards younger girls.

Yes, I'm a regular VS shopper and I would.not.ever buy any of their underware for my 10 year old(except for bras).

They are low cut to accentuate things that are seen as sexual. If that is ok for your daughter then that is your decision.

ATTENTION: MODERATOR'S NOTE: ATTENTION

This is the OP:
quote:

ORIGINAL: MyMasquerade

Well for us here in South Louisiana school starts in five weeks. I have bought all of Tay's pants, shirts, new bras and undies from VS, the only thing we are missing is new shoes. I am going to get those next week. The school has the option of paying $40 and they will get all of the supplies you need, so I think I am going to do that. I know Tay well enough to know that she is going to want some thngs picked out by her for colors and styles.

How is everyone doing on their back to school shopping? I do still have to take and have the monogram put on her shirts, I forgot about that.

This thread has gotten completely off track. It is about purchasing back to school items, not about whether the OP is making appropriate choices in undergarments for her daughter. That rabbit trail is now closed. Please refer back to the OP for direction. I will go first, in the next post.

My first reaction to this thread was to think that we just finished school and it couldn’t possibly be time to prepare for the next school year. Then I realized that I have already spent a ton of money on next year, but am still cleaning up from last year. We homeschool. My study, where all the homeschooling supplies, books, etc. are, is a complete and total disaster. I have so much organizing to do, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

We do not buy new clothing specifically for school, although we do buy new shoes. By then all the kids are needing new shoes for the coming colder weather and I prefer to purchase them when the stock is large and they are on sale.

I usually go to Target several times in August, as they have lots of supplies for very cheap prices and they put a new set of those items on for extremely cheap each week. I get all of my supplies this way before school starts. I spend less than $100 for all three kids to have paper, pencils, erasers, 3 ring binders, etc. for the whole year. I love those sales. They are fun.

As far as the money we have spent already, for next year, I think we have all our curriculum now. It is so exciting to go through all the new books and buy the supplies for our science books. We got a new microscope and our dissection specimens for biology. That was really exciting. I also bought some flasks and beakers for science experiments for the younger kids. Having real science equipment makes it a lot more fun and interesting for the kids. They love using test tubes, wearing the lab aprons, goggles, etc. Getting all the stuff in was tremendously fun.

Now I have to switch all my things from last year out and replace them with the new items for next year. That is going to take me days. I guess I had better get a move on!

Btw - I guess Staples has started their back to school sales already!

Can't remember what's the prices are, but pencils, folders, and poly binders are on sale this week.

Blessings,

Garsy

I was going to mention Staples too. 8 pack of pencils, folders, and mini hand sanitizers are a penny
Plastic 1/2 or 1 inch binders are a quarter
Four pack of highliters are free after rebate you can do online.

THere are limits of 2 each on the pencils and hand sanitizer, 10 folders and 4 notebooks.

I wonder if they are already having those sales out here too. The schools don't start until the first week of September. I'll have to check into that.

Walmart usually has good deals on Crayola colored pencils too. They weren't out yet, but probably will be this week. It's usually right after 4th of July that the summer aisle turns into the school aisle.

Noah (8) won't need many clothes for school, barring yet another major growth spurt. He will need new sneakers (probably will get when Payless has their BOGO1/2 off sales...Hannah and Levi will also need shoes), and socks. He also needs a new backpack. His broke the last week of school, otherwise I'd have him use it this year until it broke. We're either going to buy a Jansport or one from LL Bean this time because they have warranties and aren't that much more than a cheapie from Walmart that is guaranteed to break.

And then the actual school supplies, of course...

i will check them out then as soon as the school sales start. Maybe we can all compare notes on different items that we are buying for school.

I am unable to compare a lot of different stores, but I can do a couple of them.

I guess it's a good thing that I'm in town everyday this week. I'll be stopping by Staples everyday maybe twice!

My kids have quite expansive lists and I'm particular about certain supplies, like crayons and colored pencils. I'll only buy Crayola or Prang. No RoseArt in this house!

Blessings,

Garsy

We don't have Staples anywhere near where I travel regularly.

I do almost all of my shopping online now. I sign up for every online catalog and newsletter, and often get free shipping coupons in my email. This allows me to comparison shop, and saves time and gas. Nothing irritates me more than to go to a store and find out that they don't have the color or size that we want, or I have to take a raincheck for an item they had on sale.

Our Office Depot will deliver Next Day for free if your order is over $50. How cool is that?

As far as clothing goes, our kids have camp in August, and in preparing them for camp I inventory underwear, socks, shoes, etc... and buy or make whatever they will be needing, so when we start school (we home educate as well) they are good to go.

Do you all buy el cheapo ring binders, or do you spring for the more heavy duty ones? I bought a few .98 binders last year, and I hate them. The covers are very bendy. The kids like the view binders, because they can color pictures and make their own 'covers', and I like the fact that they are much more sturdy, but they are often $2-3 each. With three kids, that adds up quick.

That is a great idea, Sunny! With gas prices the way they are, that would be a great help. I just never thought about ordering regular school supplies.

I'll have to look into buying school supplies online, too. Most of ours is already purchased from our stimulus checks. We switched curriculum this year, and we're going with Rod and Staff. I have $880 worth of books lined up on the shelf, looking so bright and new.

We don't need any new clothes for the kids, but I will have to do the great switch-over from summer to winter clothes in a few months. We aren't anywhere close to doing that yet, though!

How'd you get all that in one trip. We could only get 2 packs of pencils and 10 folders at the penny price.

I gave each of my kids their own money so they could each buy 2 packs of pencils and 10 folders each! I also got 2 packs of pencils, 10 folders and the binder.

oh ok. I wondered if it was something like that. I thought about doing that with my kids. We don't really use the folders though and I bought a gross of pencils a couple years ago and still have lots left

I really need to go across to Michigan to shop at Staples, LOL! Our Staples store here in Ontario is super expensive for back to school ... a 10 count of Staples brand pencils (the cheapest they carry) goes DOWN to $1.49 during back to school season. If we're lucky, the folders will run about 30 cents each.

BTW, I was surprised to actually see this thread here, as there is almost an identical one (same general topic) in the PPS forum.

Thanks for the Staples tip. Even though dd hasn't been OUT of school for two weeks yet, I ran over to Staples to pick up some basics for her.

That's amazing. You're making me laugh about the giddy part. I can understand your enjoyment.
