Giulia -> Anyone got a tooth implant? (7/5/2008 6:15:21 AM)

I just had the finishing work done the other day and I can't seem to get used to it. Perhaps it takes a while?

I got my two front teeth at last[:D]praise God![:)]. Eevery Christmas I sang "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth"[:D] I had composites for way longer than I should've. Got pushed over when I was two with my milk teeth, then when I was seven someone wanted to see how high I'd fly on the seesaw and I flew and landed on my two front teeth[&:].

It would've been nicer to get two crowns but not possible, so had to go for the implant. It took ok to my bones but now it feels delicate. It doesn't feel like I can bite hard from it. Going back to the dentist next wk. Just curious if anyone else has had any experiences with implants?

Perhaps it's still fusing to my bones or something, not sure but you'd think that for the pricey amount you pay you get a good tooth which is also comfortable?

I stil feel my pulse in it. Also when I train I sometimes align my bottom teeth with my top teeth and that felt akward when I did that. I could feel the pressure.

My daugher-in-laws dad got an infection when he had his done. Not sure how many teeth involved. He c alled his denist when the pain got so back and he saw him at his office at night and the denist called the amlbulance. It seems like the infection was something that could affect his heart.( have no idea why). He was in the hospital a week. Don't let this scare you this was 20 years ago and I am sure things are so much different now. Or it could have been something wrong anyway. Hope yours works great. I am sure most peoples do. It is very popular. Wasn't going to alarm you by this post but didn't want you to wait if you thought you had an infection.

You shouldn't really be biting hard on anything. Implants and crowns simply aren't as strong as our natural teeth and biting on things is going to affect them.

May be worth you investing in a dental shield. The do take some getting used to, but it will help protect your implants.

May be worth giving your dentist a call on Monday to see what he says about all this. Depending on what you had before the implants though, it may just be getting used to them. I have a bridge (over 3 teeth, top front) now, but before that needed to wear a plate for 6 months after an extraction (to allow the bone and gum time to heal). After I had the bridge fitted, it felt really weird for a while. Still does sometimes and it's been 8 years I think!

Yes, I am getting one of these especially fitted. I have been using a cheap one that moulds to your teeth after you put it in hot water till now. it doesn't fit any more though.

I don't think it's infected. I think it is fusing to the bone. I will miss taking out my temp bridge when guys are trying to come on to me though[:D]. Sometimes it works to turn them off[:D]. Also gave that illusion of being tough sometimes[:D].

Good thing is I can smile fully now[:)].
