Is it normal to have cramps when you are ovulating? What causes it?

Look up Mittleshmirtz [:)]

Yes, that's a real word. I doubt I could explain it any better than that [&:]

sharonjef2007 -> RE: question about cramping.... (7/6/2008 10:08:10 PM)

Is there anything to do about it other then pop pills?

sharonjef2007 -> RE: question about cramping.... (7/6/2008 10:15:15 PM)

Ok, so I looked that up and I don't think it is the same thing. I do get that M...whatever but this is cramping across the whole lower abdomen, not just on one side.

If you have to "pop pills" my gyn recommended alleve. She said if you take it the week before your period, you will have a lighter week. I have found that to be true.

Well, I just ended my period a week and a half ago, so this is cramping from ovulation. I don't get it every month, but it is not too terrible.

I guess at some point I'm just gonna have to go to the doc. I'm REALLY not looking forward to finding a new one [&o]

Mittelschmerz doesn't necessarily have to be on one side (probably because the word means middle pain, but things other than the egg bursting from the follicle can cause it-- I use it to just mean pain from anything around ovulation). It might be due to hormone levels. One of the sex hormone's being too low or two high can cause mid-cycle pain. I'm sure there's other stuff that can factor in and other stuff that can cause it. I guess what to do for it depends on what caused it. I'm not sure that pills would work, but I don't see the harm in trying. Lol.

PrincessDonna -> RE: question about cramping.... (7/6/2008 10:59:10 PM)

Sharon, don't you have endometriosis also? That can cause a higher amount of pain than most women get with ovulation, because your body is trying to release an egg through the endo mess. If it can't release because of the mess, it can cause large growths on your ovaries too. If it continues for days on end or the intensity increases, you need to see your doctor and probably discuss some treatment options for endo.

Thanks for the advice. I'd have to find a new doc before I could go to one. I have not been to a doc since I moved to Omaha in September. Not to mention, I guess I should go to a doc where I'll be living after I'm married next month.

Ack....Can I just have a hysterectomy instead? I guess I'd need a doc for that too though [8|]

It's highly recommended, but I guess it depends on your bravery[8D]

I have PCOS and I get this off and on- I do know that when I am taking my progesterone, it seems to be a little less likely...

PrincessDonna -> RE: question about cramping.... (7/7/2008 10:22:57 AM)

Depends on the doctor if they'd be willing to do a hysterectomy. But yes, I do highly recommend finding a doctor and not trying to do it yourself.[;)]
