Question>>
What motivates you to want to learn more about Jesus?

What do you believe would motivate other Christians and non-Christians to want to learn about Jesus' life and teachings?

LCannon -> RE: Love Jesus? (7/7/2008 12:35:39 AM)

Personal obedience compels me that I might share and model Him to a weary world. "Because of the surpassing greatness of [His] revelation, there was given me a limitation to keep me from exalting myself! For He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you for My power is refined in weakness." Most gladly then, I will glory in my weakness so that the power of Christ may contrast in me. Therefore, I can be content with my lack, my insult, distresses and difficulties for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong."(2Corithians 12:7,9,10 )

The Holy Spirit keeps me hungry to know more about the Word of God. And I thank God for his encouragement to know Him more.
A part from God, I never cared to know anything about Jesus. So, I know it IS a Spirit thing.

Sometimes it can be an urgent thirst to know more, and other times, it seems like an on going appetite, unless I stray from my quiet times with Him. When this happens it's like going on a spiritual weight loss diet.[:(]

Born again believers have the Holy Spirit in them, but if they let the world steal their time and suck them dry of relationship (time) with God, then it might be time to ask the Lord God for a renewed desire to have that hunger to learn more about Jesus. I asked him for the desire and he gave it to me. This was after my spiritual starvation diet ended. If it's for his will...the Holy Spirit jumps right on board egging you on, so to speak.

Speaking of the unbeliever (non-Christian) now. The motivational factor would be the Lord drawing them to know more about him. Also, the want to disprove the absolute truth written in the Bible. As many of us know, some have come to a saving relationship in Christ, after investigating and searching for information on the Son of God. Praying this will happen for all who seek to learn about Jesus life and teachings.:)

What motivates you to want to learn more about anyone? Because you are attracted to them, desire them, want to know them and be known by them, to learn their ways so that you can please them.

Suffering plays a big part in all of this---my motivation and the motivation of others. It is tribulations that are the catalysts to draw closer and closer and closer. So when you want others to desire more of Jesus, you are really desiring that God turn the heat up in their lives so that they seek Him.

What motivates you to want to learn more about Jesus?

Holy Spirit within me.

What do you believe would motivate other Christians and non-Christians to want to learn about Jesus' life and teachings?

regarding growth and application - same answer, because (imo) our sin prevents us from that desire so we need the promptings of the Holy Spirit to do so.

regarding historical data - anyone interested in history would be motivated - you don't have to be a believer to be motivated to learn history

I want to add one more question>>
How much time (hours, days, weeks, years) would you be willling to take to build a relationship with Jesus by studying His life and teachings? How much is too short? How much is too long?

Yes, this is so true, earthless. I've always said that it is my sin that sticks me to Jesus like glue.[:)] Apart from my sin, I would not know His mercy. So I come to Him and His mercies meet me time after time. Yes, the acknowledgment of my sin is a crucial part of my love.

I never thought to measure study time, to build a relationship with Jesus. I don't keep a log of time spent in His Word. Even praying before digging into his Word is time spent, too.

quote:

How much is too short?

No time spent

quote:

How much is too long?

When you spend more time studying, than doing what Jesus would do.

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
James 1:22 KJV

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22 NIV
