I can’t even imagine being called to Pastor a Church and not loving people.

But I don’t do the calling…

Whether that translates to being social a majority of the time I'm not sure, but it certainly doesn't give lee way to shun people in general.

Good point. I also think that even for someone who only delivers the prophetic word of God and doesn't need to be close to the people, it would be beneficial if he got to know his audience anyway. For one thing, it's hard to know how to preach to an audience you don't know, and the personal element will help his message to be tempered with mercy.

I never thought of like and love as being in the same continuum.

In my world:

"Like" has to do with feelings toward someone.

"Love" has to do with the choice to consider them more highly than yourself.

Love is the fulfillment of the golden rule and all of the law.

I think there used to be an misunderstanding in the church some 20 or 30 years ago that love was all about emotion, and since then there's been a lot of effort to correct that. Feelings are fine, but if they aren't followed by action, then it's not really love. Unfortunately I think we've swung too far the other way a lot of the time, to the point where many believe that actions are all that is necessary, and feelings are not important. I believe that's just as wrong as the first error. I believe love starts in the heart and is shown through actions. If I show loving actions but do not sincerely love, it's not love.

Rom 12:9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.

Rom 12:10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Co 13:3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

The following verses have to do with loving God. I'm posting them to show that God wants us to love with our hearts, too.

Isa 29:13 And the Lord said: "Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,

ev 2:2 "'I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.
Rev 2:3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.
Rev 2:4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.

quote:

Love is the fulfillment of the golden rule and all of the law.

Amen!

And a "Catch & Release" policy is no good either.

That is what a lot of churches do, however.
