My problem with gaming on linux has always been the headache of getting the Windows game to run. Then, if I get it to run, getting it to run well. I'm a sucker for eye-candy and I can't get the same level of textures either at all or without significant performance decreases (mainly due to OpenGL vs DirectX). If I ever grow up (yeah right) and quit playing computer games, then I have no doubt I'd be a full-time Linux user, but for now, it is much less of a headache to stick with XP. We'll see what happens in a few years and what's available when I have to replace my computer. :D

You can always setup a dual boot option. My current configuration is triple boot and I only use windoze for gaming. But it not usually allowed on the internet. That is a Linux only task.

I have had my system setup with a dual boot option, but my problem with that is even the minute or two it takes to shut one down and get the other running is just too much trouble to deal with when all I do is surf the web and play games with my home pc. :P

I just love stories like this from a Seniors and Technology thread posted on our forum.
This the paragraph I liked the most.
Turning 66 later this year. Love the challenge of computers, built several, and have helped many family & friends with theirs. Recently donated a PC loaded with PCLOS to a puter-less family and they love it. One of the kids commented that it doesn't freeze like the ones at school.
But, I'm happy to be over the hill and not under it.

PCLinuxOS works on 64 as well as 32 bit processors. Did you do a media check from the boot up screen? If not, do this and report back. If it is a good burn then there shouldn't be a problem. I have found out though you should unplug any USB devices such as game controllers and Usb drives. Only your mouse, keyboard, and internet should be plugged in. This is the only answer I have for now. If you could give me more details about the computer hardware I'll check for any compatibility issues. Then we can sort out the problems if there are any.

P.S.
There will be an updated version 2007.1 coming very shortly. This will include a new kernel and better ATI and Nvidia drivers.

There are plenty of games that run natively on Linux. If you shifted your expectations and didn't know about the latest Windows games, you would be plenty happy playing on Linux.
The way I see it, if you need more games than Linux can offer, get a console.
Granted I'm not much of a gamer -- I like simple games. But if there's a game I'm looking at and it doesn't work in Linux, I just forget about it as though it doesn't exist. I'm not willing to put up with Windows for a bit of entertainment. Having to use Windows totally negates any entertainment value of the game for me.
And yes, Linux can run on older computers, and can be a good option for them. However, modern Linux distributions often require as many resources as a modern Windows system. So you'll probably need to look at the likes of D*mnSmallLinux. Personally I like to think of Linux as the best option of *new* computers that can really show off what it can do, not just as a way to make older computers work.

I tried that disk on my desktop computer, and it booted up fine.
I was not that impressed with what I saw. Looks like I stick with ubuntu on my laptop.

WoW runs pretty well on Linux as do many other games using Wine or Cedega. I have actually had better results using just Wine which is free. I don't know about the other games that you mentioned, but they have a list of games that you can check compatibility. Games that won't work on Linux is not the fault of Linux developers, but rather the Game developers who won't port or design their games for Linux. I use Ubuntu v7-8 on 4 home computers, 1 that dual boots with XP because of some games not working well under Linux.
