Not to seem cold-hearted, but how do Nike's employees fare in contrast with their fellow country-men. How would they fare if Nike ceased to operate in the country? What are the country's leaders doing to improve the lives of their citizens? What has the UN Human Rights council done to ensure that human rights exist?

In this particular video (which got me started on this), they were held captive until they paid what they had agreed on (without their knowledge). So they don't fare too well as they don't have their freedom. The countries leaders and UN are only as strong and effective as the amount of power the people give. In some third world countries there is not much power and in some they even kill any human rights activists.

I know, from personal experience, that many so-called believers sit around in a group and brag about their pursuits of worldly positions in companies like Nike and do nothing about these things; themselves. I know that they did not lift a finger to help them. So interested are they in gaining True Wealth! How Wise of Some to ignore the plight of the downtrodden while building a house of planks. For it is written: is now the time to dwell in houses built by men, when The Body of Christ suffers Worldwide? If The Body is The Temple of The Holy Spirit, as written, what more do we need than our own temple to be useful in the things of The Kingdom of God? For it is The Feast of The Tabernacles during The Millennium Period that is The Millennium Feast! That they may be one as We Are ONE, and that the Love wherewith you love me may be in them. One In The Spirit, One Love, many different parts.

How can these who are evil say anything profitable is Jesus' Word?!

How sad it is when the church cares more about their own wealth than the plight of the downtrodden!

The chooks in cages (which we eat) get more backup than these humans!

What? The people of third-world countries have no power to give as their corupt government controls all aspects of their lives. And what does the UN do to remedy the situation? Absolutely nothing.

What can they do, or anyone for that matter, without support? You mock that the UN has support of the poorer countries only. Then you want to blame them for not sorting out governments or countries, which are way out of control and are an easy prey for the rich to exploit.

I don't think it's the countries that are affiliated with the UN that are doing the exploitation and oppression of the poor. Rather the countries that are not.

The UN recently failed to act against Mugabe even though he intimidated his way into power. The reason why they failed? Because Russia, China, Malaysia, South Africa and many other human right abuses (and poorer nations I might add) decided that it was great to have a totalitarian rule over Zimbabwe. It is through leaders like Mugabe and the lack of action from the pathetic UN that we have human right abuse.

The UN is huge a excuse for having an unrepresented bureaucracy and when it really matters, they opt out. They all line their back pockets up nicely, they pick on the western nations for the problems of the world, but they are too gutless, too greedy and too egocentric to tackle the serious issues of the world.

I am not well informed of their dealings and at the moment haven't got time to research. I think that the Human Rights Charter is a good thing and it is also good to have countries sign an international agreement of a law to which all should uphold and abide by. That is very idealistic. How it all works practically is another story. I just know the NIKE workers are being exploited and oppressed and it troubles me how people can just stand by and allow it to happen.

Sounds like there are some issues there. It only takes one person to make things right with them. I am sure there is one person out there with courage and right ethics and standards. I sense the division already; talking here. A lot of animosity and pointing of the finger but no solutions.

A good idea and its implementation are two distinct matters. The UN is a corrupt organization that desires only to propetuate and enrich itself rather than being a force for good in the world.

It would be good idea for the UN to see that workers in factories are paid cominsurate with other workers in that country and have safe working conditions. But knowing the character of the UN, it would have the same impact as their "oil for food" program. The UN has the same usefulness as the League of Nations.
