Kath -> Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 2:25:06 PM)

Hey!

I just thought I'd let you all know we have updated the policy on chat threads. We will allow them to go on monthly so a new one will need to be started at the beginning of the month. However, if they get to 200 pages in the month they to be restarted at that time unless it's already within a day or so of the end of the month.

Hope that makes sense.

So it's 200 pages now? Not 100?

And if they don't get to 200 in a month, we just start a new one for the new month?

correct :)

Kath -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 2:34:57 PM)

Clarify one thing for me though please. As an example, the geezer thread is now at page 40. Does that mean we need to start a new thread on Aug. 1st even though this may not even be to 100 pages?

That is right, and it's 200 pages in a month now, whichever comes first. :)

Kath, will the PFY threads remain unaffected by this new policy?

Yes, they remain unaffected. PFY threads are a whole other ballgame, the folder was set up so they'd go forever.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 5:35:00 PM)

Thanks for the clarifications, Kath!

Yup yup! Thanks!

Kath,
Since we get "chatty" in almost all the threads here in Southern Gospel, are they all considered "chat" threads? How do you decide what is a "chat" thread and what's not???

That's a good question Donna! As I mentioned in another thread, I would hate to see all of the posts get lost when a thread about a group or artist gets to a certain number of pages.

Also, what is a PFY thread?

PFY - Personally For You in the Community Lounge section. Now THAT'S REAL CHAT THREADS!!!!

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 8:20:44 PM)

PFY = Personally For You; it's a sub-folder over in Community Lounge.

HERE is the link to the PFY threads.

Well, as Kate said earlier
quote:

Clarification:

I consider a chat thread to be one with no real topic--ie, you cannot post off-topic in a chat thread, because there is no real topic to stick to.

One thing that needs to be said here is that there is a great tendency for us to make *all* threads chat threads.

We do need to limit posts in regular threads to the topic of the OP and take the chat to the two chat threads

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 9:17:16 PM)

Okay. That sounds good. Sorry I created a bunch of work for you with my questions the other day!

Kath -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/23/2008 9:27:59 PM)

Not at all, I'm glad you asked, it helped us too. :)

If I don't bug Kath with all the questions I ask, I'm sure you didn't...

She didn't sound too cross to me.

Though I am a little hurt that:

1. She thinks we turn everything into a chat thread, and

2. She doesn't consider my thread a "real" chat thread unless I move to PFY.

That certainly clears it up for me! I had not seen Kate' post in the Geezer thread.

1. Don't be hurt that I said we seem to turn everything into a chat thread. Just read 'em and you'll agree!![:D]

2. I think your thread is one of the bestest chat threads on this thing!!! So there![:D]

(See- we're even turning this thing into a chat thread!!!! Point!)

1. It is a known condition amongst Southern Gospel posters that they are happy, friendly, chatty and turn every thread they show up in into a party[;)] Go on--be hurt that I think you are having fun[sm=tonguehappy.gif]

2. False. I do consider your thread to be a chat thread--and it is one of the three that this folder is allowed. Yours is one that brings non-SN subscribers into the folder, Mr. Ambassador.

danielmount -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/28/2008 2:25:31 PM)

By the way, is my "Ask Dr. Daniel" thread subject to monthly closure?

Could I ask for it to be exempt? It's a fairly slow-paced thread. Some of the users must either bookmark it or know where to look for it, because it gets a question or two every couple of weeks.

I view it as more an ask-the-reference-librarian thread than a chat thread.

Even though it does get off track from time to time (since SG posters are a chatty bunch[sm=bigears.gif]), I think I can say that I generally do a much better job of keeping it on track then Kerr does with his thread,[sm=nosestuckup.gif]

Kerrlaw -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/28/2008 2:36:34 PM)

My thread is as on track as the Wabash Cannonball, I'll have you know.

danielmount -> RE: Chat threads, policy update (7/28/2008 2:37:46 PM)

What is a Wabash Cannonball?
