To avoid taking another thread off track, I thought this question could have a thread of its own.

I'm guessing it will include: Perrys, Greater Vision, Collingsworth Family, and Triumphant Quartet

I'm guessing that the Hopper's will be around 20 years from now with Dean, Kim, & the girls along with Mike Hopper.

I think groups named after people will probably not be here in 20 yrs. i.e. Brian Free and Assurance, Phil Cross and Poet Voices, Ernie Haase and Signature sound.
Those guys will all probably be retired in 20 yrs, especially those tenors. Old tenors sound brutal!!!!
I don't see the McKamey's being around in 20 yrs, unless they have alot of kids that can carry it on.
Most soloists probably won't be, for the same reason as the groups that are named after a member.

Groups that will, would probably be groups like the Kingsmen who dont rely on one "name" but have shuffled through members for years and years. i know Hamill and Fox were around, but werent the face of the group really after the 70s or at the latest the 80's. I saw the Kingsmen 12 or 13 times and seen Foxy 0 times and Hamill once.

I would lump Gold City in that category too. As long as Daniel Riley is around, singing or not, I'd say they will last.

Inspirations probably will be around, as would the Kingdom Heirs, Triumphant Quartet
As long as these groups maintain good management, they can build a legacy

If Dollywood is still around in 20 years, then I'd say chances are very good that the Kingdom Heirs will still be around.

I think you're right!!!!! If gas keeps getting more and more expensive, you may see more groups opening theatres, or singing at places like that. I'd say the KH have the least overhead of any SG group.

...unless they retire with Steve French. He'd be in the retirement age range then.

(Though I must frankly admit I'd have a harder time imagining them without Arthur Rice.)

I think Greater Vision, Legacy Five, Triumphant Quartet, and The Isaacs will still be around in 20 years. There may be some personnel changes here and there but the groups themselves should still be around.

I agree with those who say that groups named after individuals may not be around, though the named individual could sell the group name when he or she decides to retire. I could see Signature Sound continuing on when Ernie Haase retires. Maybe Assurance too when Brian Free retires, especially if Ricky Free is still associated with it.

Wow, the trouble with thinking about this, it brings us to thinking about who will not be and I don't like that. I think some groups may have name changes (MTT for example - Mark still traveling in 20 years - maybe but maybe not but if Eric and/or Dustin were still with the group they might 'rename' and keep trucking) but I think many will still be with us.

This has also made me go back 20 years to the think about the changes and the people we have lost - ok, so now I'm totally depressed!!!!

Well, start thinking about the people we've gained, and hopefully your spirits will perk up some!

I know, we have gained some awesome ones but a few of those we lost were more than SGM artists, they were friends and some were extended family. I'm glad there are still many like that still with us!

I wonder if Nick Tramell will take over when Dad retires.

There are two groups that wre famous back in the 1940's and are still going strong and probably will be here in 2020, "Many Others" and "Many More".

Guess I could get all theological and say:
whoever our Father so desires and if Jesus doesn't return before that 20 years

While that is, of course, true, and our ultimate goal,
I'm hoping all the ones we all love, which between all of us everywhere that probably leaves out very few, if any,
continue to do well and stay around indefinetly

BTW we're planning to see The Inpirations tomorrow night and they've been around about 45 years

I definitely think the Kingsmen will be around. The last time I saw Ray Dean he said he was ready for another forty years!

Spoken 4 (top ten Horizon group for '08) is an up and coming group that will probably stand the test of time. I've seen them in concert - they're really good. I can see them at the top of SGM in twenty years.

Legacy Five will probably still be around too. Those guys are fairly young and can handle the late nights and stuff.

Yeah you could be right but as long as they have the deal with Dollywood I figure Steve French shouldn't be in too big of a hurry to retire. He is not featured on all that many songs so his voice should stay strong for a long time and since they don't travel as much his body isn't taking as much wear and tear. Also since he is not on the road that much the desire to come off the road and spend more time with his family shouldn't be there. If his health remains good then I can see him still going stong into his 70's.

You raise a good point about Arthur Rice though. If they lost Arthur Rice and/or Jeff Chapman or if something happened where they decided to go without a full band their popularity could potentially take a huge hit. Also if for some reason they lost their deal with Dollywood, then you never know what the future for the group would hold. There are certainly scenarios where they could be around in 20 years, but they wouldn't be a major group.

I'll try to get the pic of Nick taking the mike away from his dad and singing with Dustin and Eric on Saturday uploaded tomorrow!

Kathy, come over to the Prophets thread and you can read a little about our night at Fan Festival this past Friday. I will post a full article about it at my blog...late tonite. Hope you are enjoying your Prophets' Cd.

Now...your question about TPQ being around in 20 years...Mmm?
I would be Ed's age now. Bill and Eddie would be in their 80's. Mike would be 10 years older than i am now...Ed would be in his 90's. How do the Dove Brothers say it?..."We Can pray...."
