Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: What's your favorite part about being a woman? (7/26/2008 8:47:07 AM)

I never enjoyed being female until I was pregnant, when I gave birth, and when recognizing the close bond that develops as a result of these experiences. Yet even later, at thoughtless times, there had been times when I wasn't real crazy about being a woman, until I finally submitted that part of of me to G-d, in recognition that He makes no mistakes. My generation is the one that began with many of our mothers telling us that because we were female, we had to sit quietly in a corner and crochet, or no man would marry us, and a man choosing to marry us was the best we could ever hope for. Everything within me balked at those ideas -- all of them. I wanted more. And my generation was one that reached out, taking by force, the "more." I do not fit well in the kitchen. Any successes I have there are purely serendipitous. That my house is clean is out of mere human necessity. But I love my babies (though they are in their 30s) and I loved the privilege of giving them birth, guiding their growth, watching them develop, seeing them create their own lives and bring me grandchildren. But now that they are on their own, I am glad to be out of the house, making a living. Because of my outside job, I am healthier, happier, more energetic, etc. than I would otherwise be.
