This is a very sad and shocking crime! And to think that this guy was supposedly a minister of the Word. Unfortunatley, it goes to show you that people are capable of just about anything and you can't assume that someone is above the influence of evil simply because they carry a title.

Two thoughts:

1. Alabama

2. Does the name Anthony Hopkins sound familiar?

What a bigoted Yankee thing to say. Is it okay to blame all the drugs and violent crime in NY City on the whole state of NY?

Actually, many, if not most, southerners (like myself) share the sentiment. A bigoted Yankee would have said "the South" or "the Bible Belt".[;)]

Maybe he was trying to save up enough for a funeral; they are really expensive.

Thanks

THis is so HORRIBLE! [:@] And to top it all off, when he was arrested, he was preaching a message on FORGIVENESS! I'd say that he needs to be repenting and asking God for forgiveness himself.

Sounds like we need another march to the sea but this one starting in Mobile. ; )

landabee -> RE: Evangelist Arrested, Wife Found Frozen (7/31/2008 2:19:52 PM)

HERE is an indepth story of the situation.

What a sick, sick man.

In this link it said that the woman had not been seen for over three years.

I got the creeps reading about the homelife.

You gotta wonder: what kind of life did a woman lead if no one outside her home missed her for three years?

Even with moving the family, how could a woman be so isolated that not even her blood kin would look for her.

Sherman's honor guard on the march to the sea was the First Alabama Cavalry of the Union Army. Think again about Alabama, guys. Fair enough?

ETA: We shouldn't be shocked when someone preaching commits a crime--by now, I mean. Yes it's another terrible story.

I retain the ability to be horrified.

I pray I never get used to it.

This world is evil, no doubt......but even so...

I can not avoid feeling nauseated, sad and horrified. I am praying for those children that grew up in that toxic environment and suffered at the hands of that man.

Sherman's Retreat to the Sea was supposed to end in Mobile, but the idiot had the map upside down and went east instead of west.[:@]

A woman is dead. D-E-A-D.

Children are motherless.

Children have lived in an evil, toxic environment. They need prayer.

A wolf in sheep's clothing has been perverting the gospel.

Hello???

Father, have mercy on us. Break our hearts, Lord. Please keep your hand over these children. Heal their hearts, minds and spirits.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

He's probably going to claim God told him to do it! And that's going to make it OK. Shows that "people of God" can wake up and choose to follow a different (dark) path.

My prayers for all the people he has now caused serious pain! May God comfort them. And may he realize the gravity of his sin and turn back to God from his cell.

revbob4God -> RE: Evangelist Arrested, Wife Found Frozen (8/1/2008 8:10:43 AM)

Would someone kindly tell me specifically where to find articles on this? Is there a need for the children or relatives of this poor child of christ to have spiritual counsel? I am speaking of the dear wife, not the false prophet. Sylvia read about this in the thread last night and we were up quite late praying. It truly is an abomination, and a frightening horrible thing, but why would anyone blame it on the south. That is just plain wrong. Sin happens everywhere.

I thought it only happened in California and was the Govenator's fault! [:D] Stop confusing me![:D]

revbob4God -> RE: Evangelist Arrested, Wife Found Frozen (8/1/2008 8:23:42 AM)

Saw the link, read the article. The man was obvioulsy headed for serious problems. Abusers often isolate their victims. The first thought that popped into my mind was of how this man had begun preaching to a congregation while his wife was in a freezer. He had already lied to people. I do not want to bring up bad news, but remember David Koresh and the horrible tragedy at Waco Texas, another example of what horrible things can happen when false prophets pervert the word of God. We need to thank God that this tragedy went no further than it did.
Heavenly Father, Have Mercy on the soul of Arleta Hopkins, who met an untimely and senseless death. Have mercy on the hearts and souls of her precious children, give them courage and follow them through their lives, work your wonder into their hearts, and place dedicated children of God always in the presence of these children so that this horrible abomination that they have been forced to sufffer does not turn them from your blessed countenance, and guide us all to a more responsible stewardship where we can step in more readily when we suspect some evil, to confront that evil and correct it. Guide us always to do your will. In Jesus Name, Amen

revbob4God -> RE: Evangelist Arrested, Wife Found Frozen (8/1/2008 9:14:31 AM)

I have posted a prayer in the prayer section so that everyone may also share a prayer for the soul of the mother and the children. If we could get th contact iformation regarding the congregation the false prophet and children attended, perhaps some could inquire if the children need anything. I believe Sylvia is looking into that.

Oh this is just awful and I feel so sorry for the children and family and also the congregation. By the way, I always disliked when people call the South the Bible Belt, its more like the Bible Backbone.

As a Southerner, with all due respect, the "Bible Belt" is made up of a good deal of self-righteous instead of righteous. Criminals love church. It's a great cover.

mrsrevbob -> RE: Evangelist Arrested, Wife Found Frozen (8/1/2008 9:57:16 AM)

Brother I am sorry. I was born in the South, and I was speaking for the folks who actually try to be good disciples of Christ.

By the way, I have met a good many wonderful Christians from Alabama and as for Texas, I met Rev Bob there. I believe above all, that the people of the congregation where the false prophet was preaching should never be made to feel that any of this was their fault. A lot of times horrible things happen and people can beat themselves up emotionally and spiritually because they feel they hould have seen something that may have been impossible to see at the time.

There are people everywhere who may suffer from self righteousness.
